Chapter 28 The Strange Uncle Who Deceives Children
Having decided to work hard to become a powerful ninja, Haruko Hayama took Naruto Uzumaki to the Shueido Bookstore, hoping to find some training manuals.
Just then, Haruko caught a glimpse of a white-haired man reading behind the bookshelf. She stopped and stared at him curiously for a few more seconds. His appearance was truly striking; he was not only wearing a black mask but also covering his left eye with a Konoha headband.
Dear, warm, heavenly...
Haruko silently recited the title of the book in his hand, then realized something was wrong.
"Intimate Paradise"?
It sounds and looks like a book unsuitable for children... I never expected that this seemingly respectable person would actually be a perverted middle-aged man!
Haruko shook her head and sighed in the morning, "You really can't judge a book by its cover."
"Hey little sister."
The sudden male voice startled Haruko Hayama, causing her to jump two meters away.
Then she realized that the person she had been spying on had silently circled around behind her and made a nasty noise to scare her.
Kakashi Hatake, sensing the unfamiliar gaze and instinctively dodging in the opposite direction out of professional habit: ...Am I awful?
"Uncle... oh, big brother, is there something you need?" Haruko Hayama quickly changed her words, almost blurting out what she really meant.
She just called me "uncle," right? She was about to call me "uncle," wasn't she?
Kakashi Hatake had mixed feelings, but outwardly he just looked even more dead fish-like than before.
He was only 21 years old this year, and he didn't look like an old man at all. Was it because the mask made him look older? Kakashi Hatake wondered to himself, feeling frustrated.
"Big brother?" Haruko Hayama looked wary. Although he was good-looking, it couldn't hide the fact that he was reading books unsuitable for children.
Kakashi Hatake snapped out of his daze. "Little girl, you've been staring at me. Is something wrong?"
Let's just say Naruto is a high-risk world! With everyone being a ninja, even peeking for a few seconds can get you caught by the person in charge. I really can't imagine how dangerous it is to become a ninja in the future!
Wanting to end the conversation quickly, Haruko could only lie through her teeth, "Big brother was standing there looking very serious, so I was a little curious about what he was looking at?"
"Hmm..." Kakashi Hatake put on a serious face without batting an eye, "They're just some books that only adults can understand."
"Haruko!" Naruto Uzumaki ran over with a book in hand, showing her his find. "Look, I found this on that bookshelf over there!"
Haruko read the title aloud: "How to Become a Ninja Without Realizing It?"
"Doesn't this perfectly meet Haruko's requirements!" Naruto put down his book, his bright eyes shining as he looked at her, his face practically begging for praise.
Haruko's lips twitched slightly. She sighed and told herself not to be too strict with the blond-haired boy before patting his head under Naruto's hopeful gaze. "...Very good."
"Huh, who is this uncle?" Naruto Uzumaki, after receiving the praise, turned around and noticed the white-haired, one-eyed, masked man standing next to Haruko Hayama.
Kakashi Hatake, who was called "uncle" for the second time: ...
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Kakashi Hatake, and I'm 18 years old." He emphasized 18 years old in a serious tone.
"Oh~ My name is Naruto Uzumaki! I'm 7 years old. My favorite food is ramen, and my favorite person is Haruko. Nice to meet you, Uncle!" Naruto Uzumaki introduced himself with a smile.
"...No matter what, I shouldn't be called an old man, right?" Kakashi Hatake's dead fish eyes revealed a hint of resentment.
Feeling inexplicably sorry for him, Haruko leaned closer to Naruto and whispered, "Naruto, he probably thinks the old man looks old, so we should call him 'brother'."
Kakashi Hatake, the elite Jonin who heard everything clearly: ...
"Oh, is Kakashi-nii here to buy books too?" Naruto Uzumaki immediately changed his form of address after being reminded.
Haruko instinctively chimed in, "Yeah, the older brother said he bought a book that only adults can understand."
"A book that only adults can understand? Why can't we kids understand it?" Naruto Uzumaki asked a profound question.
Haruko, realizing what he meant, met his clear, azure eyes and felt a strange sense of shame, as if she knew what he meant. She guiltily replied, "I don't know. Maybe it says things that can only be done when you're older."
"Things that can only be done when you're older?"
"Cough cough cough!" Kakashi Hatake quickly interrupted them.
He and Haruko Hayama were speaking in relatively low voices, but Naruto Uzumaki's big mouth made it clear to everyone around him, causing Kakashi Hatake to suddenly receive countless strange looks.
Kakashi Hatake: ...I'm really not a weird person!
"Kakashi-nii, do you have a cold?" Naruto asked innocently.
"Naruto, right? Since you like ramen, how about I treat you to some? Let's go out quickly." Kakashi Hatake lured them with a smile.
Strange...so strange...
This guy looks exactly like a weird old man trying to fool children!
Haruko turned her face away in the morning, leaving him with some dignity.
"Ramen?! Great! Thank you so much, Kakashi-nii!" Naruto Uzumaki agreed without any hesitation, and even smiled brightly.
...Naruto, don't be so naive as a child!
"Slurp... Mmm, this is so delicious! Ichiraku Ramen is definitely the best! Boss, another bowl, please!"
Looking at the empty bowls piled up after she finished eating, Haruko swallowed hard and silently mourned for Kakashi Hatake for three seconds for paying the bill.
Kakashi Hatake, secretly checking his wallet: ...
Having at least confirmed that he wasn't a dangerous person, Haruko Hayama started the conversation, "What level of ninja is Kakashi-nii? He looks really strong."
"Me? I'm a Jonin."
"Is Kakashi the kind of ninja who goes out on missions, or is he the kind of ninja who teaches ninjutsu at the academy?"
Kakashi Hatake smiled nonchalantly and replied, "I occasionally act as a teacher; after all, who would complain about having more money?"
Naruto Uzumaki finished another bowl of ramen and happened to overhear Kakashi Hatake's words, "Eh! He's a teacher at the school? Maybe we'll meet in the future. I'm aiming to become Hokage!"
"Is that so? Naruto's ambition is great, but becoming Hokage isn't something you can achieve just by working hard." Kakashi Hatake replied calmly, resting his chin on his hand.
"Of course I know! No matter how difficult it is, I will become Hokage!" Naruto clenched his fist with chopsticks, his eyes sparkling as he envisioned his future as Hokage.
Haruko Hayama laughed when she saw this, "Of course, Naruto will definitely become Hokage in the future!"
"Hehe, Haruko, I'll try my best to let you witness that day as soon as possible!"
Looking at their high spirits, Kakashi Hatake's smile faded.
Naruto, it's truly captivating...
