Chapter 288 An Incomplete Picture of Life
The slender figure of the girl was bathed in the soft light of the green lawn, floating gracefully in the air.
Nohara Rin stared intently at her retreating figure. Although she couldn't hide her worry, she wanted to respect all of Haruko's choices.
She thought that since Haruko had only ever saved Obito Uchiha, even if she saved someone else now, she should be fine as long as she took good care of herself.
But she was wrong.
"alright!"
After delivering the last bit of life force she needed, Haruko couldn't help but smile.
She carefully examined Gaara's restored appearance, and closed her eyes tightly, trying to suppress the weakness rising within her.
Haruko turned her head, and Rin Asano smiled and made a peace sign to reassure her.
Just as Nohara Rin was infected by her joy and her lips curled up, Nohara Rin's expression suddenly changed, and fear crept onto her face.
She saw blood trickling down Haruko's nose, and it was getting worse.
Feeling the moisture under her nose, Haruko absentmindedly raised her hand to wipe her lips, only to find her fingertips covered in bright red blood.
Unaware that her actions had smeared half of her face with blood, making her look horrifying.
The burning heat surging through her nostrils continued unabated. Haruko jerked her head back to look at Rin Nohara, and as she watched her rush towards her in a panic, Haruko's thoughts were—
You're going to scare her.
Nohara Rin couldn't hide her horror as she rushed forward to catch Hayama Haruko, whose body had gone limp.
"Haruko! Haruko!"
The urgent and distressed cries made Haruko Hayama frown. She wanted to tell Rin Nohara that she was alright, but she couldn't answer.
Blood continued to flow from her nose and mouth like a burst dam; no matter how she wiped it with her hands, the fresh blood would just wet her face again.
Along with the gushing blood came a severe feeling of weakness, and Haruko felt a strange fear that her life force was being rapidly plundered.
It was as if all the pent-up costs had broken free of their cages and were wreaking havoc on her life.
Her vision began to blur, her eyesight shifting between clear and hazy, until finally she could see nothing at all.
Haruko was drowsy and lost in thought in the morning.
She clearly used the resurrection technique for the second time... how could this happen...?
It was as if she had used a secret technique several times without her knowledge...
Furthermore, the power contained within her eye technique seems to be gradually dissipating...
The eyes of the cyborg told her—
Her life had come to an end.
...
The more powerful the eye technique, the more cautious one must be about the price to pay.
Some eye techniques are outwardly malevolent, and each time they are used, they will result in an immediate backlash.
Just like the Sharingan unique to the Uchiha clan, it is thus named the "Eye of Death".
Some eye techniques harbor hidden violence, like a treacherous and cunning demon.
It only talks about benefits without mentioning the costs, providing seemingly endless powerful capabilities, but in reality, the costs after each use are piled up at the bottom of its storage box.
Silently, until the user is exhausted and can no longer perform the function, all costs will continuously emerge and devour them.
Those with the Reverse-Sword Eyes who use the power to defy fate must bear all the consequences of their original destiny.
Long ago, Fugaku Uchiha, who had witnessed such terrifying abilities, warned her to be careful of her eye techniques.
"Many people envy those who possess pupil techniques, but only those who possess pupil techniques will know the high price that fate has charged you."
Uchiha... Fugaku?
Why is Sasuke's father talking to me?
When...when did I have this conversation with him?
Haruko struggled in endless despair. She tried to speak, but was forced to swallow a mouthful of deep water, the suffocating urgency crushing her nerves.
Swept up by the deep-sea whirlpool, her body gradually succumbed and plummeted downwards.
She was surrounded by all sorts of strange memories, as fleeting and ethereal as a revolving lantern.
A girl with pale yellow hair appeared in front of her, and Tsunade excitedly danced around.
"Let's go fishing together after training! Don't call Jiraiya, he'll just be a hindrance!"
The arrogant young Jiraiya patted his chest and made a boastful promise to her.
"I'll become the best! So you can relax and slack off, I'll protect you!"
As a child, Orochimaru slowly ate his first piece of cake, responding to her question in a low voice.
"I'm not happy."
Hiruko, who had been hiding behind a tree, cautiously emerged, her thin body looking frail and weak.
"I...I miss you all."
The young Hiruzen Sarutobi ruffled her hair, both amused and annoyed.
"You little brat, you actually told Biwako about my embarrassing moments!"
Along the way, Uchiha clan members kept greeting her with smiles, chatting about this and that, their words filled with the happiness of a simple life.
With a stern face, Fugaku Uchiha frowned and carefully flipped through the "Encyclopedia of Childcare" in his hands.
"The book says that frequent crying might be a sleep problem... What? This book is for babies?"
Obito Uchiha, a kind-hearted member of his clan wearing orange goggles, kept apologizing to her for being late.
"Sorry! There's an old lady... Huh? If you and the old lady fell into the water at the same time, who would I save? Of course I'd save both of them... What do you mean I don't know my own abilities?!"
Seeing that no one else was paying attention to her, Nohara Rin quickly picked up the green pepper from her lunchbox.
"This is the only time. You can't be picky about food, and you can't secretly give any to Obito!"
Wearing a pretty dress, Kurenai Yuhi patted the tall boy next to her, and Sarutobi Asuma, having received the hint, reluctantly took out his purse.
"Asuma, pay! I want to hear the story!"
With his thick eyebrows and big eyes, Might Guy crossed his arms over his green bodysuit, revealing his signature eight teeth.
"Want to hang out with me? Sure, let's work up a good sweat together under the scorching sun! Wait, don't run away!"
Uchiha Itachi's chubby face was full of seriousness, his arms crossed, in an interrogation posture.
"Auntie, you ate my dumpling, didn't you?"
The gentle and dignified Uchiha Mikoto has a habit of humming songs while cooking in her cozy kitchen.
"I learned a new dessert recipe today. When you and Itachi come back tomorrow, we'll have afternoon tea!"
After Minato tied an apron on Kushina, he began washing the vegetables. Kushina raised a spatula and announced to them.
"I'm cooking a feast for you all today, Kushina's delicious dishes! Make sure you eat it all!"
The aloof and proud young man stood under the moonlight, looking down at her, and remained silent for a long time before speaking.
"After your plan is completed, I have something I want to tell you... something very important."
The fragmented images flashed by like fleeting shadows.
Haruko's mind is in a mess right now. After her pupil technique started to fluctuate unstablely, various images leaked out and mixed together.
It was like watching a strange movie from your own perspective.
Even though she realized that these were memories that should belong to her, she couldn't empathize with them because they were incomplete; the scenes of her other lives were incomplete.
In her own perception, she is still the Haruko Hayama who lives a peaceful life.
