Chapter 37 The Handsome Unemployed

Chapter 37 The Handsome Unemployed

Back in the present, Kakashi Hatake looked at Haruko Hayama sitting upright through the crystal ball, silently repeating her name in his heart: Haruko Hayama...

Standing on the podium, teacher Iruka Umino smiled and said to the students in the classroom, "Congratulations on becoming independent ninjas from today onwards!"

"From now on, you will be divided into groups of three to form a squad and will carry out missions alongside a Jonin teacher."

Three people per group?

Upon hearing the news, everyone began to stir. Haruko wondered who she would be paired with...

Naruto's words made her feel uneasy if she didn't follow him.

As for Shikamaru, I don't feel very safe following him around.

As for Sasuke, I feel like he wouldn't trust me to stay with him.

Just as Haruko was lost in thought that morning, Naruto Uzumaki quietly leaned over to her right and whispered, "Haruko, who do you want to team up with?"

Me?

Hearing their rustling noises, Uchiha Sasuke on the left couldn't help but sit up a little straighter.

"I'm fine with anything."

Although she also wanted to be with her friends, Haruko couldn't help but dream of a peaceful future where she could be grouped with others and escape the main character's storyline.

"I only want to be in a group with Haruko!" Naruto Uzumaki said, then laughed sheepishly.

Haruko Hayama, whose conscience was pricked: Hahaha...

"To ensure that each group has a balanced ability, the teacher will assign specific members. Now I'm going to announce..."

"Next up, Class 7."

"Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and..."

"Haruko Hayama".

"Yoshi! Haruko, that's great! We're a team!" Naruto jumped up excitedly.

Sasuke Uchiha remained silent, but his expression clearly showed that he was satisfied with the arrangement.

Haruko Hayama, whose delusion had been shattered, comforted herself by saying that the most dangerous place is the safest place, and maybe it would be safer to stay with the two of them, right?

Right...?

"Why is it that only our Class 7 teacher is so slow?" Naruto Uzumaki couldn't sit still and kept looking back and forth at the classroom door.

Haruko sat in her seat, propping her chin on her hand, and said, "I wonder what our teacher will be like."

Actually, she quite liked teacher Iruka Umino. He was upright, kind, and thoughtful. Occasionally, when she bumped into them on the street, she would treat them to ramen. He was a very responsible and good teacher.

Unfortunately, he only teaches students at the Ninja Academy and is not responsible for graduating genin.

The mention of teachers reminded Haruko Hayama of Kakashi Hatake, whom she had met before. She was genuinely surprised when she learned he was her teacher, given his appearance…

He looks... like a handsome unemployed bum.

Just as Naruto Uzumaki had finished setting up the classroom door for his prank, and Sasuke Uchiha was propping his hand up, saying how could a Jonin possibly fall for it, the classroom door was finally opened.

"Kakashi-nii-san?"

Haruko stood up in the morning, her wide almond-shaped eyes reflecting the image of Kakashi Hatake's head right in front of the blackboard eraser on the door.

Unexpectedly, they actually fell for Naruto's prank... Haruko Hayama and Sasuke Uchiha both twitched their lips, mentally defining their future mentor as "unreliable".

Naruto, on the other hand, was delighted because his teacher was someone he knew. "Kakashi-nii is going to be our teacher? Yay!"

Kakashi Hatake removed the blackboard eraser from his head, his expression blank. "Well... how should I put it, I wasn't very lucky."

"..."

Haruko Hayama, who had initially felt apologetic for Naruto's prank, immediately retracted her conscience and praised her blonde-haired dog for doing a great job.

...

Dinner was laid out on the table. To celebrate the three of them becoming a class together, Morning Mom and Morning Haruko cooked together, so dinner was especially plentiful.

"Huh? Your teacher is Kakashi?" The mother's voice was full of surprise; she hadn't heard that name in a long time.

Haruko asked curiously, "Does Mom know Kakashi-sensei?"

"We know each other, but it's been a long time since we last met." Zaojian's mother couldn't help but laugh. "He has a rather interesting personality; I never expected him to become your teacher."

Haruko had no idea that her mother had this connection, but with Kakashi-sensei's deadpan expression... was it really that funny?

"Auntie, auntie! Is he good?" Naruto asked impatiently.

"He was amazing. He was hailed as a genius when he was young." Morning mother's eyes welled up with memories as she gently patted Uchiha Sasuke's head. "Just like our Sasuke."

Feeling the light touch on his head, Uchiha Sasuke pursed his lips, his ears turning a light red.

"What? Just like Sasuke..."

Naruto Uzumaki drawled out the last syllable, his unfinished words seeming to imply that if he were like Sasuke Uchiha, he wouldn't be that great either.

Sasuke Uchiha, his face expressionless, said indifferently, "Let's talk again when what you conjure up isn't trash."

"You!" Naruto, humiliated by being exposed in front of Haruko's mother, pointed angrily at him, "You wait! I'll definitely beat you to a pulp!"

After Sasuke Uchiha snorted dismissively, a joyful atmosphere filled the dining table.

After dinner, Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki went out together to go home, but judging from their posture, it was probably going to be another night of friendly sparring.

"Haruko, may I come in?" Haruko's mother knocked on Haruko's door.

"What's wrong, Mom?"

After Haruko opened the door, her mother led her inside. Seeing her mother's slightly serious expression after closing the door, Haruko's heart skipped a beat.

In the morning, her mother knelt down and placed her hands on her shoulders. "Haruko, your eyes..."

"Don't worry, Mom, I've never used it outside."

"It's not that Mom is limiting your talent, it's just that Mom is afraid..."

"I know, Mom."

As for the situation reported to the Hokage, Mirei did not tell the whole truth in the morning, just as she did when she awakened her own eye technique.

The Third Hokage may not have achieved great feats, but he did lead Konoha to a peaceful state. The only thing that is hard for people to talk about is his indecisiveness, especially towards the leader of Root, Danzo Shimura.

Years ago, after she awakened her pupil technique on the battlefield, Danzo Shimura, upon receiving the news, asked the Third Hokage for her, wanting to place her in Root as his subordinate.

The feeling she got from Shimura Danzo was terrible. If the Third Hokage was a kind and steadfast leader standing in the sunlight, then Shimura Danzo was an ambitious and ruthless schemer hiding in the darkness.

The Root organization, independent of the Hokage's forces, is more ruthless and cold-blooded than the Anbu, and its missions are even more clandestine.
