Chapter 92 The Orphan of Yuyin
Haruko didn't have much time to rest. The Second Shinobi World War had just broken out, and Konoha was fighting against Sunagakure. Haruko was ordered to go and provide support.
Since Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya had already been assigned to a team to support Amegakure's war, Haruko followed her assigned teammates to the other side.
"Kakashi?!"
Haruko Hayama stared in surprise at the long, silver-haired man before her.
Sakumo Hatake asked, somewhat puzzled, "You know my child?"
No, Kakashi always treats masks like his life, how could he possibly look like this...handsome?
Even though he was Kakashi Hatake's father, Haruko Hayama had to admit that the man in front of her was truly exceptionally handsome.
Why does Kakashi always wear a mask and try to cover himself up? She really doesn't understand the quirks of ninjas.
Wait, he's Kakashi's father? The legendary Hatake Sakumo!
"It's nothing. I ran into Kakashi on the road before... cough, little Kakashi. I didn't expect you to be his father." Haruko Hayama felt a strange sense of satisfaction.
Will Kakashi have to call me "older sister" from now on? Hahahaha!
After a brief introduction, Haruko Hayashi and Sakumo Hatake headed to the battlefield together.
The cruelty of war once again impacted Haruko Hayama's world. She had lost count of how many people she had killed; her actions had become a conditioned reflex, her eyes only fixed on the falling of each person.
After heading to the next location with Sakumo Hatake, Haruko Hayama quickly stopped him from rushing ahead.
Seeing the doubt in his eyes, Haruko Hayama turned steadily to the slightly familiar silhouette opposite her. "You're Chiyo's son, aren't you?"
The man opposite her, who had initially thought they had some kind of trick up their sleeve, was stunned by her words.
"Who are you?" he asked uncertainly.
“When I was a child, I asked Sister Chiyo for help with puppetry, so I was practically her apprentice. I’ve met you before, but you probably don’t remember me,” Haruko Hayama said calmly. “My name is Haruko Hayama.”
The man suddenly realized, "I remember now, you're the guy that your mother calls 'idiot' all the time."
"..."
Under the strange gazes of Sakumo Hatake and the enemy opposite, Haruko Hayama's lips twitched.
There's no need to say such things on the battlefield, brother!
The man relaxed and gestured to his teammates, "Let's go somewhere else."
Seeing that they had all dispersed, Haruko turned to Sakumo Hatake and said "Thank you."
Why are you thanking me?
"Thank you for letting them go. I don't want to be at odds with people I know."
Sakumo Hatake smiled, which was taken as tacit acceptance of her thanks.
During this battle, Tsunade and her companions became known as the "Legendary Sannin of Konoha," a title that resonated throughout the world, much to the envy of Haruko Hayama.
"If I were there, would we become one of the 'Four Ninja of Konoha'...?"
Seeing Haruko Hayama's listless and resentful expression, Tsunade couldn't help but laugh out loud. After receiving a sharp look from Haruko Hayama, she instantly regained her serious expression.
Orochimaru also smirked and said, "If you weren't always thinking about slacking off, you'd probably be known as 'Lord Haruko'."
Haruko Hayama understood the sarcasm in his words and was very unhappy, but she couldn't argue with this vampire, so she chose to change the subject.
"Before, because of the war, Hiruzen and his sister-in-law didn't have time to have a wedding. Now that Asuma has been born, their wedding will definitely have to be put on the agenda."
"Really?" Tsunade waved her hands excitedly. "I can help Biwako choose a kimono!"
"You're too late. My sister-in-law has already chosen the kimono for me," Haruko Hayama said smugly.
"What? Orochimaru can help choose Hiruzen-sensei's kimono!" Tsunade looked at Orochimaru expectantly, hoping to use his name to obtain the right to choose the kimono.
Orochimaru saw through her thoughts and replied rudely, "I'm not interested in kimonos."
"..."
Tsunade felt incredibly stupid for having any hope for him. Hadn't she witnessed enough of his cold-bloodedness over the years?
"However, the date hasn't been set yet. I'll go see Jiraiya after they've finished their business."
It is said that shortly after the battle with the main force of Amegakure, Tsunade and the others encountered three war orphans: Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato. Perhaps Jiraiya, hoping to heal the wounds of war, stayed behind to take care of them, so only Tsunade and Orochimaru returned.
After taking one last look at her adorable, still-in-womb nephew, Haruko set off for Amegakure.
"Wow—Xiao Nan is really good at origami! Maybe she'll become an origami master someday!"
Haruko Hayama praised the little girl with short, light purple hair in front of her, especially when the little girl shyly covered her face with origami, Haruko Hayama felt a little itchy to do the same.
Just then, the door opened, and Jiraiya returned from fishing.
"Hey, such a big fish... You didn't catch it at Mount Myōboku, did you?" Haruko Hayama looked at the fish, which he couldn't even carry on his shoulder, unable to hide her surprise.
Jiraiya walked in and casually placed the fish on the table where Konan had removed the origami.
"Who do you think you are? I am the Fish God Jiraiya!" he shouted.
"Fish God? You really like giving yourself titles. Why don't you just call yourself the Child of Destiny?" Haruko Hayama teased.
Jiraiya nearly tripped over upon hearing this long-unheard address, and looked at her with a helpless expression as she smirked.
Xiao Nan asked curiously, "The chosen one?"
Yahiko, full of youthful vigor, chimed in, "Teacher is amazing!"
Nagato, who rarely spoke, silently applauded for him.
"Spare me..."
After Jiraiya used Fire Release on the fish, Haruko Hayama added a special seasoning, and the delicious grilled fish was freshly made.
"Wow! This is so much better than the grilled fish the teacher made before!" Yahiko exclaimed in delight.
Jiraiya gave a forced, sullen laugh. "While Haruko's cooking is indeed excellent, mine isn't much worse, is it?"
"Jiraiya, you must believe that the eyes of the masses are discerning." Haruko Hayama picked out the fish bones for Minami and handed her the fish.
Xiao Nan said shyly, "Thank you, Qingzi-neechan."
Haruko smiled and patted her head. "You're welcome. If you need more, just tell your older sister."
Akira's bright eyes reflected the sparkling Haruko Hayama.
Haruko-neechan is always very gentle with everyone, considerate and thoughtful...
She was the first to notice that Nagato's bangs had grown long, and she carefully asked for his permission to cut them to a length that wouldn't make him uncomfortable.
Yahiko was the same; because he was always thinking about training, he would get all sorts of injuries, big and small. No matter how well he hid them, Haruko would find them and then hold him down to bandage them.
Jiraiya-sensei is like a father, and Haruko-neechan is like a mother. If I could really become their child, I'd probably wake up laughing in my dreams...
Haruko Hayama: Aren't I the older sister? How did I become the mother? ???
