Two days later, around midnight, Jiang Zhi finally saw the light.
Climbing up the bare hillside, the outer wall of the Bright Base comes into view, and under the flickering lights in the darkness, groups of people are busy at work.
There were two rows of guards standing at the entrance, and quite a few people were coming and going.
You can vaguely see people entering with their heads held high and chests puffed out. After a while, someone comes out, bowing and scraping, and takes something from the people who came in.
The walls of the Guangming base were not as high as those of the Shuofang base.
Therefore, Jiang Zhi could see what was happening inside the wall.
Someone was whipping someone, and Jiang Zhi could hear the pitiful screams even from this far away.
This is the situation at the Bright Base, and it's pretty much the same as what she heard in her previous life and what Qu Shicheng told her in this life.
To avoid any unforeseen complications, Jiang Zhi let Wanfu enter her spatial dimension and went down the mountain alone.
She soon arrived at the entrance of the Bright Base.
"Who's here? Hand over your ID card first!" a guard at the gate shouted, his chin practically pointing to the sky.
Jiang Zhi said, "I'm new here. I heard there's a base called 'Brightness' here. It's a great name, it sounds impressive, and it sounds like a good base..."
"Alright, alright, you're new here, right? Go register and get checked in the tent next door first, hand over your food, and then you can go in," the guard said impatiently.
Jiang Zhi was not angry at the guard's rudeness; she turned and walked toward the shed next door.
Two bonfires were burning over there, and in the shed, a few people lay in twos and threes, barely clothed, and the stench was overwhelming.
Jiang Zhi silently put on a mask, which immediately covered most of the stench.
"The new guy?"
"And she's a beautiful woman?"
Wow, beautiful girl!
The man with rotten, yellow teeth whistled at Jiang Zhi. Even more outrageous, he rushed forward and tried to pull down Jiang Zhi's pants.
"Hey hey, beautiful, let's play together... Ahhh!"
Blood from the back of the knife splattered onto his face. The foul-smelling man lay on the ground with his neck broken, only a thin layer of skin hanging on him, his body convulsing uncontrollably.
"You...you're a superhuman?"
The speaker looked terrified and trembled as he backed away.
Those lying on the ground also shrank back.
Jiang Zhi coldly watched these people, stepped over the still bleeding head, and walked straight to the registration desk.
The old man sitting at the registration desk was propping his head up and seemed to be dozing off; he hadn't even looked up despite the commotion earlier.
It is clear that this kind of thing happens frequently and has become the norm at the Bright Base.
The beggars lying flat at the entrance are all tacitly approved testers by the base; their job is to test newcomers.
If Jiang Zhi backs down without a bloody confrontation, the Bright Base might not take her seriously.
Sure enough, the sound of Jiang Zhi's knife hitting the table and the smell of blood immediately woke the old man up.
The old man looked up like a monkey, saw Jiang Zhi's clean face and clothes, and said with a grin, "New here?"
What are the conditions?
"Ten catties of grain, or five red crystals."
Jiang Zhi took out five red crystals from her pocket and threw them on the table.
Seeing Jiang Zhi's straightforwardness, the old man laughed even harder.
"Alright, what's your name? I'll give you a tag. The rules of the Bright Base are that you need to pay a fee for each area. If you pay the fee in one go now, you can move freely in each area. If you don't pay, you can only walk in the central area. If you go to other areas, you will be killed."
Jiang Zhi watched the old man's incessant chatter and thought to herself, "The Bright Base is damn complicated."
"Pay what?"
"Choose one: grains or crystals. Ten pounds of grains or ten crystals."
Jiang Zhi took out ten more red crystals and threw them on the table, asking, "Is that enough?"
The old man looked closely, counted, and laughed, "That's enough, that's enough!"
Jiang Zhi received the access pass, which was a small piece of iron, three centimeters wide and ten centimeters long, with some bloodstains on it.
Looking closely, it even has a vintage feel to it.
While ordinary iron sheets can be forged using metal-based superpowers, it's probably not so easy to fake something like this that looks old.
From this perspective, the situation at the Bright Base is more complex than imagined.
The old man stared at Jiang Zhi's back, noticing that she was only carrying a small bag, but he did not look down on her.
The more someone is like this, the more ruthless they are.
The body of the one who just died has already been carried away and thrown into the stinking ditch.
No one showed any pity; it seemed commonplace.
The Guangming Base was less affected by the earthquake than Jiangcheng. Although most of the buildings were no longer habitable, many of them managed to stand up, unlike the buildings in Jiangcheng which collapsed.
She walked down the street, surrounded by darkness, with faint rustling sounds and screams.
The ruins were teeming with bedbugs, and the overall sanitary conditions were appalling. Jiang Zhi covered her nose and quickened her pace.
"Who knows, who knows? I found out about that Boss Jiang. She's coming to the base soon. Her name is Jiang Zhi. I have a feeling she's our boss." Wang Wan held up a small torch and hurriedly lifted the small curtain.
Lying in bed, his brow was furrowed and his neck was covered in beads of sweat.
She had a wound in her abdomen that was oozing pus, and the wound was extremely painful.
Wang Wan quickly stuck the torch on the wall, opened his backpack, and found the clean water he had desperately fought for.
He boiled some water, dripped some onto a handkerchief, and used the handkerchief to wipe Yanzhi's sweat.
Perhaps it was because the wound was too painful, who knows why he groaned unconsciously.
"Yanzhi, hang in there, the boss will be here soon, maybe she has medicine." Wang Wan touched Yanzhi's forehead and found that it was burning hot.
Wang Wan broke out in a sweat.
He had only one thought: to take off Yanzhi's clothes and use physical methods to cool her down.
