Chapter 29 Seeing the Cat

They and a large group of people hid in the underground parking garage of a residential complex and survived several months of extreme heat.

As for Leon Lai's leg, it was broken by the rush of people when the weather turned cool after the extreme heat, in an attempt to protect her from being trampled.

It was all because of her that Senior Li Ming got hurt, so she has to protect him.

After coaxing Li Ming to sleep, Ji Xiaoxiao went out again. If she didn't do her missions soon, she wouldn't be able to pay her rent, and she would truly be homeless.

Sleeping on the streets in this weather is worse than being the little match girl.

The reality was harsh; Ji Xiaoxiao didn't receive a suitable task all day.

They either complain that the points given are too few, or they're not as fast as others.

She gained nothing all day.

On her way home, Ji Xiaoxiao's mind was filled with the image of Jiang Zhi appearing before her in a presentable manner.

We must find Jiang Zhi's place.

Jiang Zhi was certain that Ji Xiaoxiao was watching her. The base was so small, Ji Xiaoxiao would definitely know where she lived, so it was always good to be on guard.

The base has a points-based supermarket, similar to the supply and marketing cooperatives of earlier years, as well as a private trade market where transactions are generally bartered and rarely require points.

With few points left after renting the apartment, she didn't plan to go to the supermarket this time, but instead browsed the street stalls lined with vendors.

Many people here are filthy, and their clothes might not be changed for ten days or half a month. Jiang Zhi walked in clean and tidy, which made her seem quite out of place.

Looks like I can't dress so cleanly next time I'm out.

Suddenly, Jiang Zhi felt as if she were being watched by a pair of eyes. Her cultivation had recently made a breakthrough, and her perception had become much stronger than before.

Jiang Zhi's eyes sharpened instantly. From the side, those eyes were on the left. She glanced over and saw a middle-aged man squatting beside two cages, listlessly calling out, "Selling dogs! Selling cats! Selling dogs! Selling cats!"

Where's the dog in the cage?

Only a dying tabby cat lay on a dirty rag, its body directly touching the cold ground.

The man stared at the cat in the cage, while the cat stared back at Jiang Zhi. The man's eyes revealed a hunger; he was waiting for the cat to die.

Another delicious meal is coming!

The cat's eyes revealed a longing for life. It stared at Jiang Zhi, hoping that this well-dressed woman would turn around and look at it, even just once.

Oh no, that woman's eyes are terrifying.

Jiang Zhi walked straight up to the man. A shadow blocked his view. He looked up and saw that it was a woman.

"How much is this cat?" Jiang Zhi asked.

"Give it whatever you think is appropriate, just more meat than it has," the man said, pointing to the cage.

"Two bags of instant noodles, if that's not enough, then forget it."

"Deal!" the man readily agreed.

Jiang Zhi said, "Bring your things and come with me."

The two arrived at the supermarket, and Jiang Zhi nodded to the man to wait a moment. Jiang Zhi went inside and exchanged 40 points for two bags of instant noodles.

I have to complain about this. When redeeming points, a pack of instant noodles used to cost 10 points, but now if you buy them back, you get 20 points per pack. It's ridiculously expensive.

The price difference between goods and wages is quite large; some people may have to work three jobs a day just to support themselves.

The supermarket staff were also arrogant; if a customer made even the slightest request, the staff would give them the cold shoulder.

Jiang Zhi was settling accounts when the man, holding the cage, started talking to himself.

"You're lucky, at least you're better off than a dog. A dog didn't survive until I ate it. You've found a good buyer, so you won't be eaten by me."

"See, there are still good people in this world."

"People are divided into different classes. In the end times, the rich will remain rich and the poor will remain poor."

"That woman is well-dressed, so she must have plenty of resources. If you go there, you'll be destined to live a life of luxury."

Jiang Zhi came out with instant noodles, and the man immediately shut up. He glanced at the noodles in Jiang Zhi's hand and swallowed hard.

Without seasoning, both cat and dog meat taste quite unpalatable; instant noodles are much more delicious.

"It's in your hands now. Its life or death is up to fate. It's very sick and has a high fever. Let's see if you can take care of it."

"Well, I didn't expect it to live. Its eyes just moved me." Jiang Zhi's tone was flat and detached.

The man nodded.

Cash on delivery.

The money and goods were exchanged, and they were no longer related.

Having bought a stubborn cat, Jiang Zhi didn't want to stay out any longer and needed to go back and deal with it as soon as possible.

Jiang Zhi could tell from its eyes at a glance that its situation was exactly the same as hers before she died in her previous life.

Jiang Zhi suddenly felt an urge to take it home.

Lift the cage so that the cat and she can look each other in the eye.

"I'll take you back and do everything I can. Whether you survive or not is up to you."

Owning a cat is not a difficult thing for Jiang Zhi.

Given the current circumstances, the cat has no choice but to eat whatever she eats.

Cat food? Cat treats? That's impossible.

She didn't think about any of this when she was stockpiling goods.

It's intriguing that this cat survived the extreme heat without mutating.

"Meow~" The tabby cat made a sound as soft as a mosquito's buzz, as if echoing Jiang Zhi's words.

"Let's go home."

"Meow~" The cat in the cage struggled for a moment, then collapsed because it was too weak to move.

When she got home, Jiang Zhi opened the door to let the air out first, checked the carbon and oxygen concentration gauge, and then went inside.

Most of the smoke from the charcoal burning in her stove escapes through the chimney, but she still has to be careful, because who knows if she might get carbon monoxide poisoning?

Jiang Zhi took the cat to the bathroom. The little thing was so hungry that it had no strength at all. When Jiang Zhi reached out to take it, it didn't resist at all.

First, I disinfected the cat, then put it in warm water to wash it and gave it a bath.

Even after all this, it's still not dead.

Jiang Zhi couldn't help but praise, "You're amazing, you can really hold on!"

After patting it dry with a clean towel, Jiang Zhi took out a small iron basin and put in the warm milk that she had just heated on the stove.

The cat was small and skinny, but upon seeing the milk, it suddenly gained strength and began to frantically lick it.

In no time, half a basin of milk was gone into its belly.

"Meow~" It seems a little satisfied!

Seeing that it still wanted to eat, Jiang Zhi poured some more milk into the iron basin.

It's the same old crazy routine, all over in a few seconds.

This time, Jiang Zhi refused to give it to him.

Jiang Zhi took out a low-powered hair dryer, plugged it in, and dried the cat's fur while checking for any wounds or scabs.

Apart from malnutrition, this cat is otherwise perfectly healthy.

The fact that this cat survived so many days of extreme heat and cold shows that it has a very strong constitution.

Could it be a mutant cat?

After drinking the warm milk, the cat regained its strength and slowly stood up. Its golden eyes gazed at the woman who had cleaned it and fed it, and it felt a strong sense of attachment.

The cat gently rubbed its chin and forehead against Jiang Zhi's hand, while also making a cute face.

I'm very well-behaved, please don't eat me!
