Chapter 63 The Strange Courier Center

Through the glass window, you can see the shed outside used to store express packages.

Cardboard boxes and packaging materials were scattered everywhere, and useless products were left on the ground, unattended.

Most of the usable parts have been taken away.

"There wasn't enough room in this house originally, but we saw you were in a bad situation and asked them to move it a bit. Please come in."

Lu Ming pushed open the door, and a strange smell rushed out. Jiang Zhi silently took two steps back, while Wang Wan, who was standing in front, was the first to be hit.

Wang Wan quickly covered her nose to hide her disgust and said, "Ugh, why is this room so dark?"

"It's too cold if the vents are opened too wide, this way it's warmer," Lu Ming explained.

"Who is it? Is there a new person here?" came an impatient voice from inside.

Before Wang Wan could speak, Lu Ming went inside first.

The voice inside immediately withdrew after recognizing who it was.

Wang Wan was mentally sensitive, and he could clearly sense that the people inside were afraid.

Good heavens, this is another den of wolves!

Once inside, I discovered that the room was very large, with dozens of people of all sizes inside. I didn't see any elderly people, and almost all of them were men, along with three or four teenagers.

Jiang Zhi noticed that there wasn't a single young woman among them.

Lu Ming turned to look at Jiang Zhi, who was still standing at the door, and his expression softened: "Beautiful lady, do you have other places to go?"

"It's the apocalypse, why are you still discriminating against us?"

"Ladies should be treated well wherever they go." Lu Ming reached out to pull Jiang Zhi away, but Jiang Zhi skillfully dodged him.

Lu Ming wasn't annoyed. Now that they were in, they weren't going to get out.

This young woman was dressed warmly, and her exposed skin was fair and delicate. She looked like she had never suffered any hardship, and her flesh was more tender than those withered old women.

"Is that so?" Jiang Zhi pretended to suddenly realize something and reached out to stop Wang Wan, who was about to speak.

Jiang Zhi was a ruthless woman who had killed people, and Wang Wan trusted her completely. How could the old, weak, sick, and disabled people here be a match for her? So Wang Wan suppressed his disgust and endured the humiliation in this room.

His superpower is still not very stable. Sometimes he needs to come into contact with real things to generate his mental power.

Upon entering the room, he sensed something was very wrong. Although he couldn't see the faces of these people clearly, the magnetic field around them was obviously problematic.

Wang Wan found a corner to sit down, his backpack tucked into his arms. It didn't actually contain much: two packs of compressed biscuits, two bottles of mineral water, and a knife and shovel that Yan Zhi had enhanced. He gripped the knife tightly; if anyone tried to harm him, he would show no mercy.

Jiang Zhi followed Lu Ming to the third floor. There were some scraps piled up in the corridor on the third floor. Lu Ming knocked on the wall three times, and soon a burly man wearing a mask came out of the room.

"The new guy?"

Lu Ming replied, "Brother Biao, the man is in your hands."

Jiang Zhi's eyes were bright and lively. When the man called Brother Biao saw her, he didn't say anything, but pointed her to the room at the end of the corridor. Jiang Zhi walked in front, and Brother Biao walked behind.

After unlocking the door, it wouldn't open. Brother Biao yelled at the door, "Damn it, move all your stuff out of here and block the door again. I'll let you starve to death in this house."

After a while, the sound of things being moved could be heard coming from inside the house.

Jiang Zhi glanced at Brother Biao out of the corner of her eye and muttered to herself: Why are all the people we meet on our first time going out as a group not normal?

The door opened quickly, and a dozen women huddled in a corner, trembling.

Why are they like this?

"It's cold, you can go inside." Why was Brother Biao's tone towards Jiang Zhi completely different from his previous rude knocking?

There were two steel-framed bunk beds in the room, covered with cardboard and cotton wadding.

After Jiang Zhi went inside, Brother Biao gave the women a meaningful look. One of them shrank back, raised her head, and then quickly lowered it again.

As soon as she closed the door, Jiang Zhi heard the sound of the lock being put on outside.

This logistics center was strange in every way. After she and Wang Wan came in, they were not questioned, but were separated.

Aren't you worried about two jackals coming in?

Or are these people so powerful that they have nothing to fear?

I glanced at my watch; it was 8:45 a.m., and my appointment with Yanzhi was at 1 p.m.

Seeing Jiang Zhi come in and stand there doing nothing, a woman in a dark blue coat took the initiative to walk over.

She stretched out her hand, which was covered in pustules and looked like a chicken claw, and waved it in front of Jiang Zhi.

"Hey, do you have anything to eat?"

Jiang Zhi looked closely at her face. She also had chilblains on her cheeks, but there seemed to be something else under the chilblain scars.

"No," Jiang Zhi said coldly.

"Sisters, she has something in her bag, all of you, go and strip her naked! It's the apocalypse, and she's dressed so smartly, who knows how many people she's served."

Everyone was itching to make a move.

"Forget it, Sister Qiao. I wouldn't dare to do that given Brother Biao's attitude just now," a woman suddenly said.

Jiang Zhi noticed that the person who said this was a woman wearing a light pink down jacket.

However, there were large black stains on her front, indicating that she hadn't changed her clothes in a long time.

These words awakened several people, and they all stopped in their tracks, unwilling to move.

Seeing that she couldn't get anything done, Sister Qiao could only grit her teeth and glare at Jiang Zhi with resentment.

Jiang Zhi finally saw clearly that these women all had blue stamps on their faces, like the kind on pork strips.

This reminded Jiang Zhi of the human-pig.

It's like raising pigs in captivity; when there's nothing left to eat, they eat these people who have been raised in captivity.

Therefore, such people are called human-pigs.

"You're new here, right? You probably don't know our rules. Brother Biao is in charge of the shelter; he's the one who delivers our food," the woman in pink said again.

Jiang Zhi stood by the window and asked. The window was sealed up to ensure that the heat inside the room did not dissipate.

However, it was still very cold; Jiang Zhi estimated the temperature to be below minus ten degrees Celsius.

"In addition, none of us are allowed to go out. Every now and then, someone will take one of us out for some fresh air..."

Letting out for some fresh air?

Going to jail?

Jiang Zhi became even more curious.

"Are there only a dozen or so of you?" Jiang Zhi asked.

"There were more than thirty at first, but as the weather got colder, many of them died."

"What are you saying? Shut your stinking mouths." Sister Qiao glared at Jiang Zhi and said to the people around her.

A strange, inexplicable hatred; this woman is terribly insane.

Jiang Zhi didn't care. She pointed to the woman in the pink dress and said, "You've talked to me the most. Come here for a moment."

The woman in the pink dress pushed aside the two women blocking her way and walked up to Jiang Zhi.

Jiang Zhi pulled a fruit candy from her pocket, and the sound of tearing the wrapper made the other dozen or so people swallow hard.

"Eat."

The fruit candy, once its wrapper is removed, releases a subtle, delicate aroma of cantaloupe.

The candy melts in your mouth, a sweet taste you haven't had in a long time.

"My name is Chen Manman. Is there anything else you want to know? I will answer everything I know." Chen Manman nodded frantically, her eyes filled with eager anticipation.
