Chapter 75: Another month of survival

Back home, Jiang Zhi ate a rice ball and went to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Jiang Zhi suddenly felt a shaking. She immediately grabbed Wan Fu and used her tentacles to put the bed, the burning stove, and all the kitchen supplies into her space. She then put on her backpack, kicked away the wooden block against the door, and rushed downstairs.

Yan Zhi and Wang Wan followed behind, carrying only a large backpack and nothing else.

They are very vigilant; they sleep without taking off their clothes, and their supplies are packed in bags so they can simply grab their backpacks and run if anything unexpected happens.

When we got to the open space downstairs, the icicles and snow blocks hanging upstairs were falling straight down.

Jiang Zhi put Wanfu down, and Wanfu quickly darted to the open space. Jiang Zhi put down her backpack, put on a thick coat, and tucked her trousers into her shoes. Then she wrapped a scarf around her neck and put on her hat.

She had only been downstairs and standing in the open space for a short while when a layer of frost formed on her hair, showing how extremely cold the weather was.

Seeing that Jiang Zhi had finished dressing, Wan Fu immediately came over and pressed himself against Jiang Zhi's leg, trying to minimize his presence.

People started running downstairs one after another, all groping their way down in the dark.

The snow was thick at night, which reflected light, so a little bit of white could be seen in the darkness.

Yan Zhi and Wang Wan searched for a long time before finally finding Jiang Zhi.

"Boss, was there another earthquake just now? Jiangcheng hasn't had an earthquake in a hundred years, and I've already experienced it twice." Wang Wan whispered in Jiang Zhi's ear.

Before Jiang Zhi could speak, Yan Zhi said, "The tremors felt elsewhere did not mean an earthquake occurred in Jiangcheng."

"How do we know that sister is right?" Wang Wan nodded, listening to the sound of icicles falling around her, and her heart trembled, just like the house that had shaken earlier.

Weather disasters are already making life unbearable; if geological disasters like earthquakes and mudslides occur on top of that, what chance do people have to survive?

Jiang Zhi quietly slipped the hot water bottle into Wanfu's cloth bag so it could warm his feet.

It's already mid-February, and there are only two months left until the major undersea earthquake.

Fortunately, Jiangcheng is not a coastal city; it is located by the river, so the seawater flowing in has little impact.

Even without natural disasters, the impact of undersea earthquakes is extremely negative.

The island nation closest to the mainland was completely destroyed in this underwater earthquake.

The island nation's nuclear power plants were also destroyed, causing a huge disaster. Nuclear power plants built along the coasts of various countries were affected to varying degrees, directly causing the destruction of hundreds of millions of lives.

Many of the contaminated mutated animals live in even harsher environments and are affected by radiation, causing them to mutate again. In particular, the mutated beasts in the sea are extremely ferocious, and some of them have even grown legs and are able to walk on land, where they wreak havoc.

Some people underwent mutations during this nuclear radiation catastrophe, becoming able to feed on mutated animals. Those who were not contaminated, however, could not, leading to a general division of the human world into two factions.

Soon, those two bastards will be coming to the base soon. After killing them, I'll leave the base, find a safer place to stay, and slowly get through these apocalyptic years.

Jiang Zhi snapped out of her reverie; the shock had subsided. She took out a lighter and, using its light, slowly walked up the stairs. Wan Fu had gone up ahead of her.

Yan Zhi and Wang Wan followed.

Once inside, Jiang Zhi lost all sleepiness and sat in front of the stove playing an offline game.

“Mom, there won’t be an earthquake anymore, not anytime soon,” Wanfu said suddenly, looking up from beside Jiang Zhi.

Jiang Zhi turned her head and asked, "How did you know?"

"Oh, it's a cat."

Jiang Zhi was stunned for a moment, then suddenly realized, "Small animals are more sensitive to natural disasters, so from now on you will be Mommy's little disaster reporter." Jiang Zhi hugged Wanfu and rubbed its ears.

"Yes!" Wanfu exclaimed happily.

After the earthquake, there was another disturbance at the base, but this had nothing to do with Jiang Zhi. She stayed at home every day, and except for occasionally checking the situation at the base with binoculars from the rooftop, she hardly ever left the house.

It has no effect on any power struggles or rebellions outside.

Yan Zhi and Wang Wan would occasionally knock on the door to check on Jiang Zhi's situation and tell her about the interesting things they encountered outside.

Jiang Zhi stayed at home for another month. As time went by, the temperature started to rise slightly in mid-March.

The temperature was below -50 degrees Celsius during the day, but it has now warmed up to below -30 degrees Celsius.

The long-absent sun occasionally peeked out.

Things are looking up, and the somber atmosphere in the base has noticeably lightened. When the sun comes out, many people from the underground city come out to sunbathe, children build snowmen, and men, women, and children have snowball fights.

It was like Chinese New Year; everyone had a smile on their face.

In the first year after the apocalypse, everyone in the base seemed to have forgotten everything. Now, seeing the sun they hadn't seen all winter, they were overjoyed.

Jiang Zhi stood by the window, watching the excited people and sighing silently.

Be happy, be happy.

The real apocalypse is coming, and humanity will only be pushed into an even deeper abyss.

Jiang Zhi had nearly 10,000 points in her card, and today, taking advantage of everyone's happy mood, she was going to spend them all.

Of course, food at the base supermarket is subject to purchase limits, but it's easy to bypass those limits.

All you need to do is accept a mission issued from within the base.

Zhang Zhaohe has been urging her to catch two mutated animals lately, but she's been putting it off. Now's a good opportunity.

Having received her mission, Jiang Zhi took her points card and headed to the base's supermarket. Instead of picking up items from the shelves, she went into the inner office.

"Hello, miss, what do you need?"

The visitor was Wang Youfa, the supermarket manager.

"Hello, I need to purchase supplies. There are purchase restrictions on products from outside, and I need to go out to do a mission recently. The food that is limited in quantity cannot meet my needs for the mission."

Do you have the relevant paperwork? Only if you bring the relevant paperwork can we provide you with sufficient supplies.

“Of course.” Jiang Zhi took out two pieces of paper, which contained the base’s approved application for exchanging points for supplies, as well as the tasks Jiang Zhi would be doing next.

Wang Youfa became even more respectful after reading it.

The fact that this woman was able to receive a task from Zhang Zhaohe shows that she is no ordinary person. Even if she doesn't have a good background, her abilities must be quite remarkable.

"What supplies does this young lady need, and in what specific quantities?"

Jiang Zhi took out another piece of paper from her pocket and handed it to Wang Youfa, saying, "It's all here."

Wang Youfa took the list given to him by Jiang Zhi and immediately ordered someone to go to the warehouse to get the goods.

They were all food and daily necessities.

This time, I used up all nine thousand points in Jiang Zhi's points card.

Because Jiang Zhi couldn't handle it alone, Wang Youfa sent someone to deliver the goods to her door. This was Jiang Zhi's original intention; having someone deliver it for her saved her a lot of trouble.

"Jiang Zhi, we're ready."

Little did Jiang Zhi know that she was carrying a large bag. She noticed that her weapon had been changed to a long sword, which was of even better quality than Jiang Zhi's Tang sword. It must have been strengthened multiple times.

"Okay, let's go." Jiang Zhi nodded.
