Chapter 88 Someone's Here

Words of power have enhancement buffs, so why not use them?

In classic martial arts dramas, characters always reveal their moves and shout out the names of their techniques.

It serves two main purposes: one is to enhance one's momentum, and the other is to create momentum for one's own martial arts techniques.

After all, if you don't mention your name, how would anyone know what kind of technique you're using?

How can you become famous without revealing your name?

It is much more difficult to force fruit trees that take several years to bear fruit than grain crops that mature in a few months. Jiang Zhi used up the spiritual energy of six times to force the cherry and peach trees to grow and bloom.

After the trees bloomed, Jiang Zhi stopped forcing them to grow and instead moved them back into the space, allowing them to bloom freely.

It wasn't that Jiang Zhi didn't want to eat peaches and cherries; it was just that their flowers were so beautiful that Jiang Zhi didn't want to miss the blooming season.

This month should also be the time when these two types of trees bloom and bear fruit.

Since they did not violate the natural laws governing the growth of all things, these two trees were neither damaged nor killed in space.

Following the same method, Jiang Zhi successfully acquired a blooming peach and cherry orchard in her space.

There were also five flowering pear trees, four flowering plum trees, and various other fruit trees such as apricot, crabapple, and orange trees, about five, six, or seven in total.

Wow, they suddenly have a huge orchard.

Jiang Zhi surveyed the empire she had conquered, as if she were a landlady.

She's been working herself to the bone these past two weeks trying to get these fruit trees to ripen.

Fortunately, the results were good. She can ripen the fruit later after the trees have finished flowering.

The most important thing now is—hehe.

With such a large garden perfect for taking photos, how could she not capture some beautiful pictures?

With her camera set up, Jiang Zhi, dressed in a Hanfu styled after the Wei and Jin dynasties and with beautiful makeup, strolled through a peach grove. The wind gently blew through her loose hair, her red lips slightly upturned, and her eyes sparkled with life...

What a beautiful picture of peach blossoms and a beautiful woman.

The petals drifted in the air, making the beauty even more radiant.

Wanfu pressed the shutter button as Jiang Zhi instructed, then darted to Jiang Zhi's side and struck what he thought was a very cool pose.

After Jiang Zhi finished shooting in the peach grove, apricot grove, and cherry grove, she changed into her home clothes and began editing the photos.

She discovered that in almost every picture featuring Wanfu, she and Wanfu seemed to be in two different worlds.

She was stunningly beautiful amidst the flowers, while Wanfu was a silly goose among them.

In almost every photo, Wan Fu is in a funny pose, either as a blur, practicing kung fu, or making various expressions such as making faces, pulling his mouth, or baring his teeth.

Jiang Zhi rubbed her forehead.

Even if she's a highly skilled photo editor, she can't possibly turn Wanfu into a normal kitten.

All things considered, I've decided that these photos will need to be developed, but more importantly, Wanfu's fried chicken leg for tonight is gone.

After developing the photos, Jiang Zhi left the space to continue cultivating food.

As the weather gets hotter, with daytime outdoor temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius, she moves out about 1,000 jin (500 kg) of grain every day to dry in the sun. She does this in rotation, drying each 1,000 jin of grain for two days before storing it in the warehouse.

After Jiang Zhi harvested the last handful of wheat, she was pleasantly surprised to find a green plant growing in the crack of the stone.

This little grass took root in the cracks of the rocks, and its tenacious vitality moved Jiang Zhi deeply.

Since the last extreme cold ended, she expected that vegetation would grow back. On the other hand, as a human, she probably didn't have the skill or ability to keep going.

The appearance of this plant represents new life and salvation.

Because of the extreme cold of the Earth, there is a lack of sufficient oxygen providers—vegetation.

It was thought that the world would return to normal after the extreme cold, but it did not; instead, the world has entered a new round of extreme heat.

People couldn't help but recall the last heatwave, when life was bustling with activity and people. However, in just over a month, the extreme heat almost paralyzed the entire city.

Heaven has given us the same test paper, but the level of the test takers is getting worse with each generation; this time, the conditions aren't as favorable as during the last extreme heat.

Where should humanity go from here?

The underground city of Shuofang Base was half-collapsed due to the last major earthquake and flood. After that, most people dared not live in the underground city anymore and preferred to build their own thatched huts or tin sheds rather than live underground.

Some people are still living in the underground city, unable to afford to move out.

But the weather is getting hotter and hotter, so living on the ground for a long time is not a wise move, especially in a tin shack. Once the temperature exceeds 55 degrees Celsius, it becomes like a boiler room, enough to steam a person to death.

Some people thought of digging caves in the mountains to live in. Firstly, the caves wouldn't be very deep, allowing for quick escape in the event of an earthquake. Secondly, the cost would be very low; if the caves weren't dug within the base area, there would be no rent to pay.

Many people shared this idea, and in no time, many people at the base scattered.

Jiang Zhi was eating an iced drink in the basement. She planned to dry another 500 jin of corn today, after which all the grain she had previously encouraged to grow could be stored in the warehouse.

"Food! It's corn! Come quick, there's corn here!"

Suddenly, someone barged into the threshing ground that Jiang Zhi had created. In order to create such a large threshing ground, she had taught herself how to operate a road roller, and all this flat ground was created by compacting the roller.

"Such a large area, all covered with oilcloth, it's probably something that belongs to someone."

"Who cares? We didn't see anyone. Let's pack up and run away right away. Who will know it was us?"

"It's better to be careful. They're so brazen in leaving their stuff out here, they must have something to hide. They might even be nearby."

Ignoring the advice of others, the man greedily eyed the corn kernels on the oilcloth, which emitted an enticing aroma.

This stuff, once soaked, can be eaten as a staple food or as a fruit; he'd eat a few bites even if it killed him.

The man lunged at the tarpaulin, grabbed a handful of corn and frantically stuffed it into his mouth, but before he could swallow, he was kicked straight away like a falling kite.

Upon closer inspection, the man's companion noticed that he was still holding the corn in his hand, as if he wanted to put it in his mouth, but there was a red line on his neck.

Moments later, the blood seeping from the red thread stained his entire neck, and he died with his eyes wide open.

Wanfu licked his paws, then spat at the man.

Amidst screams, Jiang Zhi put away her iced drink and put on her mask.

"What happened?"

The man looked in the direction of the sound and saw a woman in a white lace three-quarter sleeve dress and blue jeans walking towards him. She had a knife on her back, and a mask covered most of her face, so her features were not visible.

Is this corn yours?

"Could it be yours?" Jiang Zhi asked back.

"My name is Xiong Dailin. I came from the Shuofang base. I'm planning to dig a cellar to cope with the extreme heat. Can I trade you my supplies for corn?"
