Chapter 331: Jackal Tracks

Chapter 331: Jackal Tracks

There were no mice inside, but there were still a lot of half-rotten peanut shells left.

After all these things are dug out, the rat hole can be filled up.

"We must control the voles this year, otherwise all the crops we grow will go to them. Once we have finished the planting area, we will go to the tourist area to take a look."

We went to the tourist area to move the surveillance cameras back, and by the way, we could also drive over to inspect the current conditions on the meadow. The cattle and sheep at home have been stuck indoors for a year and haven’t been able to go out for a walk. If this continues, they will probably get sick.

Every spring before grazing the sheep, the two would inspect the condition of the grassland. This year was even more important as they didn't know what changes had taken place in the grassland's ecology.

They will not encounter too many dangers while patrolling in a car, and ordinary animals cannot catch up with them.

After spreading lime and making ridges and dikes, the two men also performed a vehicle inspection. The car was parked in the yard when the temperature was minus 60 or 70 degrees Celsius, and the entire car was frozen at that time.

When the temperature was minus sixty or seventy degrees Celsius, the car could not be started. The two men couldn't move it, so they simply left it in the snow. After waiting for the car to thaw, they could restart it. Not finding any problems, the two men picked up their things and set off.

The sound of the car was neither loud nor soft. As the two drove away from home and entered the middle of the meadow, they discovered a number of animals. The animals were now very alert. When they heard the noise of the car, they ran away from a distance.

Zhao Yeqing observed carefully and found rabbits, deer, and some creatures on the meadow, he didn't know whether they were roe deer or something else, but they were not clear because they were far away and the car was going a little fast.

I was a little surprised that most of them were herbivores, and I didn't know where the carnivores had gone.

But the deeper they drove into the meadow and the closer they got to the tourist area, the fewer the herbivorous animals there were. It was not until they drove near the tourist area that they realized where the carnivores had gone.

When there were still five or six hundred meters left to the tourist area, the animals startled by the sound of the car slowly walked out of the tourist area.

Unlike the herbivores that would hide vigilantly when they heard the sound of cars, the animals coming out of the tourist area were very calm. They just stood at the entrance of the tourist area, staring at the cars from a distance without moving.

After Mu Xi stopped the car, Zhao Yeqing took the telescope he had found from the convoy's equipment and observed the animals coming out of the tourist area from a distance.

"We were talking about where those jackals went before. Aren't they all here?"

Mu Xi leaned his head out of the car window with his elbows on it, took a look from afar, and said in a deep voice: "Humans have been away from here for so long, and the winter before was cold. There are houses and quilts in the tourist area, which is relatively warm and can be regarded as a good shelter. It is normal for those animals to occupy the original territory of humans."

What he hasn't mentioned is the extremely cold conditions of the polar night this year. Even if humans didn't leave here, without equipment, they might have become food for these jackals.

As for their small house which was located alone on the meadow, if it were not for the clouded leopard and four dogs which acted as a deterrent, and the fact that this group of jackals had approached the house before and knew that they had guns, the two of them might have become their meal.

Under extreme conditions, all living things prey on the weak and only the fittest survive. In this respect, humans and wild animals are no different.

"What do you mean? Are we still going?"

If you drive to the vicinity of a tourist area, with one person driving and the other shooting, with the gun barrel sticking out from the gap in the car window, you should not be attacked by jackals.

This operation requires some shooting skills. If you want to do it this way, Zhao Yeqing will drive the car and Mu Xi will shoot.

"Go." Mu Xi opened the car door and exchanged places with Zhao Yeqing. "If we don't go, these jackals will stay here for too long and all the good things will be destroyed by them."

Zhao Yeqing grabbed the towel beside him and wiped the sweat from his palms. He exhaled and gripped the steering wheel tightly, "Let's go!"

With a step on the accelerator, the car roared towards the tourist area. The jackals saw the car approaching and finally became a little agitated. Some of them wanted to run away nervously, but the jackal standing in the front stared at the car without moving.

After the car drove into the shooting range, Mu Xi pulled the trigger.

The loud sound of gunfire echoed over the tourist area. The jackals subconsciously shrank back when they heard the familiar sound of gunfire. The leading jackal was somewhat unwilling and backed away with his teeth bared.

This animal also holds grudges, so unless it is necessary, he would try to drive it away. Mu Xi was unwilling to shoot it. First of all, he could not kill all of them without missing a single one. Once a few of them escaped, they might come back for revenge at any time like the wolves did before.

They usually have guns at home so they are not very afraid, but the sheep and dogs have to go out after all, and it would be easy for something to happen if they were discovered.

The first shot was a deterrent, and the second shot hit the jackals directly under their feet.

The leading jackal quickly jumped back, stared at the car unwillingly for a few seconds, and then fled the tourist area with his tribe.

Seeing them running into the distant forest, Zhao Yeqing breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm just worried that they'll go into the tourist area, and then we'll have to clear them out one by one."

Mu Xi loaded the gun with bullets. "It hasn't been long since humans left here. They subconsciously still regard the tourist area as human territory. When they are expelled, they will definitely not go into other people's territory."

However, in order to prevent any fish from slipping through the net, Zhao Yeqing drove the car directly into the tourist area, and the two of them walked into the monitoring room of the tourist area together.

The surveillance cameras were taken away, and the two men were afraid that the jackals would come back after they left, so they planned to fill the trunk to avoid losing all the good stuff.

The first thing Zhao Yeqing remembered was that it was cold and there was no quilt to cover the newborn calf. He went to the homestay and packed all the clean quilts and stuffed them into the trunk.

As expected, I found that many quilts were already dirty, there was jackal feces in many places, and there were footprints on the beds in several rooms with open doors.

When Mu Xi came back with some small things, he found that the trunk was stuffed with six or seven quilts, so he could only put the things in his hands on the back seat.

Most of the usable things in the tourist area have been moved away. If I come again next time, I will probably come for some large household appliances.

I don’t know where the jackals were driven to. After leaving the tourist area, when we returned to the middle of the meadow, we could still see herbivores looking for food from afar.

This means that the jackals did not go in this direction.

The two lived on the meadow for several years. Apart from the meadow and forest near their home and the straight-line distance to the tourist area and the village at the foot of the mountain, the farthest place they went was Yunwu Mountain.

The entire meadow is actually very large, and what they have explored is less than one-tenth of it, not to mention the mountains and forests outside the meadow.

I hope that this pack of jackals will go somewhere else and never come back, otherwise we won’t dare let the cattle and sheep out.
