Chapter 47: Encountering Snakes Again

Chapter 47: Encountering Snakes Again

Before Zhao Yeqing knew what was happening, a figure dropped from the sky and grabbed his arm. He staggered and his head hit a hot chest.

She looked up blankly. Mu Xi was more than a head taller than her. When she looked up, she saw his clear jawline as he tilted his head slightly, and realized that the person above her was not looking at her.

Following his line of sight, I saw a black snake as thick as two fingers, pierced through the middle of its body by the wooden stick that was used to hit peaches just now, and the snake's body was almost split in half.

It's not dead yet, and its mouth is still opening and closing slightly, which is very creepy.

The snake was less than half a meter away from where she was just now. It was probably coming for people. If it weren't for Mu Xi, she would have been bitten.

While she was still in a daze, the heat source in front of her faded away, and Mu Xi let go of her calmly and squatted down to look at the snake.

"Maybe the weather is too hot and the snake is getting irritated, otherwise it wouldn't come and attack people."

Zhao Yeqing didn't hear the first half of his sentence clearly. His head was a little dizzy, so he only heard the second half. He guessed that the first half of his sentence should be about the weather being too hot.

He stuttered, "Yes, yes..."

Mu Xi felt that her reply was strange, so he stood up and moved closer. Seeing her unnatural expression, he frowned slightly and asked, "Are you scared?"

The heat source that just faded away approached again. Zhao Yeqing took a half step back. She heard her own voice, "It's too hot..."

After she finished speaking, she realized what she had said. She quickly raised her hand to her forehead and turned around to make amends, "I think I have a little heat stroke. Let's go back first."

"Can you still walk? Do you want me to carry you back?"

"No need!" Zhao Yeqing replied very quickly, but felt that he answered too hastily, so he covered it up by saying, "I can walk. I just have a slight heat stroke."

Mu Xi nodded, bent down and picked up the snake, "Take it back for a snack."

We returned home in silence.

Zhao Yeqing was reflecting on himself all the way.

It seemed that he didn't take the matter seriously at all. He was just afraid that the snake was not dead yet, so he pulled her over. My reaction seemed a bit excessive.

Is it because I haven't seen you for so many years that I feel a little distant? I really shouldn't be like this.

After successfully convincing herself and erasing the burning sensation from her mind, she looked at the snake straight in the eye.

This snake was the same one that had attacked her from beneath the fallen tree, a black snake, but this one was much larger.

If she didn't know that snakes don't hold grudges and that the snakes were of different sizes, she would have suspected that the snake was here for revenge.

Since they decided to eat snake tonight, that meant she wouldn't be the one cooking tonight.

She can eat snake meat, but she gets goose bumps all over her body when she thinks about handling the snake and touching the long snake body with scales.

Zhao Yeqing didn't look at the snake any more. Before he turned and walked out of the kitchen, he only said to Mu Xi, "I want to eat salt and pepper!"

She took all the peaches she picked today to the yard to wash them, and roughly estimated that there were about ten pounds.

She definitely couldn't finish it, so she wanted to make it into candied fruit, but she felt it was a waste of sugar.

Mu Xi saw the man outside from the kitchen window with a confused look on his face, "Don't you want to make wine?"

It's not impossible to make wine, peach wine also needs sugar, but she still shook her head, "It takes too much sugar."

"Then leave it there for now. Eat as much as you can. We'll deal with the rest later."

Zhao Yeqing thought so too, so he put the rabbits in a bamboo basket and placed it in the living room, then took three of them and walked to the rabbit pen at the back.

He pinched all three with his hands, picked out the softest one, and threw the remaining two into the pen as a snack for the rabbit, then turned back to sit on the bench in the living room and prepare to eat the peaches.

There are fine hairs on the surface of the hairy peach. If you bite it without peeling the skin, the tip of your tongue will feel itchy and numb, which greatly affects the taste.

But it is not as easy to peel as peaches. Its skin is tightly attached to the flesh, so it is best to peel it with a knife.

Zhao Yeqing is not very good at peeling fruit. She usually uses a paring knife. If she uses a small knife, the fruit flesh will be reduced by half.

So generally speaking, if she is eating alone, she will choose to chew it with her teeth.

Her teeth nibbled off the skin of the peach bit by bit, leaving behind several rows of uneven marks. When she was a child, her grandmother always teased her that the nibbled fruit looked like it had been bitten by a mouse.

Mu Xi came out to get something and saw it. He twitched his mouth speechlessly. He washed his hands, took a few peaches, peeled them, removed the cores, cut them into pieces, put them on a plate, and placed them on the table in the living room.

"You haven't made any progress in all these years. Aren't you afraid of turning your teeth into buck teeth?"

Zhao Yeqing looked at the peaches on the table and smiled without choking, "It's okay, I chewed it with my bottom teeth."

After finishing a plate of peaches, she heard Mu Xi asking her to go out and pick some vegetables, and she could pick whatever she wanted to eat.

Zhao Yeqing picked another handful of leeks from the vegetable garden. He hadn't eaten leek boxes since the last time, and the leeks had grown very tall again.

The leeks were handed in through the window, and she turned and walked out, missing the complicated look of Mu Xi when he turned around and saw the leeks through the window.

I wanted to clean the sweet potato leaves in the sweet potato field yesterday, but I didn’t have time. Now it’s a good time to clean them while I’m waiting for dinner.

In just over two months, she developed the habit of feeling uncomfortable unless she did something.

If the sweet potato leaves are too lush, they will absorb too many nutrients, causing the sweet potato fruits underground to not be able to expand normally. They need to be pruned appropriately, but not too much, which will affect photosynthesis.

The sweet potato leaves grew in the form of vines close to the ground. Zhao Yeqing took a pair of scissors and cut off each branch and collected them with his hands. Before he finished a circle, he could no longer hold them in his hands.

I can only put it aside for now. When all the trimming is done, there will be a large handful of trimmed sweet potato leaves on the ground.

It's such a pity that there is no pig in this house.

Grab a handful and throw it into the rabbit pen, hoping that the rabbits will grow up fat and white and not let her sweet potato leaves down.

She has put some space between the sweet potatoes and potatoes, and the potatoes will probably be harvested soon.

It’s just that the potatoes didn’t grow as well as the sweet potatoes, but that was within her expectations. Both crops prefer sandy soil, and the potatoes and sweet potatoes grown in the mountain soil are inferior.

The leaves of the carrots next to it look good, but I don’t know how the fruits are. They were planted late, so it will take some time to harvest.

After cutting the sweet potato leaves and coming back to wash hands, Mu Xi realized that she had run out again.

"You're suffering from heat stroke? Why are you running outside?"

Zhao Yeqing didn't dare to look him in the eye, and said carelessly, "It's fine after you finish eating the peach. This peach seems to be more delicious than before. You can try it later..."

Without waiting for his reply, she ran upstairs, "I'm going to take a shower first."
