Chapter 480 Observation

Chapter 480 Observation

Why am I suddenly afraid that they won’t come?

Mu Xi took a handkerchief and wiped the milk stains from her mouth. "You can only grind it slowly by yourself. I still have to go chop down trees."

This was what the two of them had agreed upon. In this forest or meadow, they could not get any information, and the fear of being isolated always made it impossible for them to live in peace.

Finally, after renovating the tunnel, the two decided to build a watchtower on a high place nearby.

Just like the observation tower in Meishan, I wanted to try to see what was happening in the distant sky above the tall trees surrounding the meadow.

If the two of them really saw helicopters moving regularly towards the rare earth mine, they might feel relieved.

"I know. Go ahead. I still have to do some protection for the yard later."

This time it is not armed protection, but to protect the plants in the backyard that cannot be moved to the planting basement.

Zhao Yeqing made a heat-insulating cover with plastic film to cover the dragon fruit and banana trees.

The growth of this banana tree is also restricted. It has not yet grown higher than the wall, so it is not a big deal to cover it. The dragon fruit also needs to be covered, otherwise it may freeze and not survive.

The two passion fruit trees in the backyard also died, but the citrus tree next to it is still green.

All the fruits that were produced before were eaten by her or made into jams and preserves, and are now stored in the refrigerator. There are few fruits in winter, and the strawberries she planted have not yet borne fruit. If you want to eat something fruity, you have to rely on this.

Eating less in winter is a bit cold, but it also has its benefits. In the summer, she has to go to the fields to weed every three days. This winter, for more than a month, she hasn't weeded once. No wonder people used to say that people gain weight in winter. There is really too little work to do.

The sound of a pickup truck was heard outside the yard. Mu Xi pulled a cart of wood to the bottom of the hill inside the wooden fence that the two men had built for the goats to play with. They planned to build the watchtower here.

The small hill is actually a small earth slope. Mu Xi dug the foundation very deep so that the watchtower would not be short. The first thing to ensure is safety.

The two had originally thought about finding a big tree to make a ready-made lookout tower, but the trees that were tall enough and had a large enough crown to bear the weight were too far away. When they wanted to observe, they had to walk some distance into the woods, which was too inconvenient.

The two of them chose the simplest way to build the watchtower. They used a long enough log from a large tree and three pillars to make a triangular support. They used expansion nails to build small steps from the bottom to the top of the log. There was a small platform on the top of the log, so they could stand on it and observe after climbing up.

There is a safety rope hanging from the platform, which can be tied to the body when climbing.

In order to prevent the entire log from breaking, the two men had to come up with a plan to save their lives.

Finally, it was decided to erect three extra-long steel bars carried back from the tourist area next to the logs.

If one rope is not thick enough, three ropes are put together. However, the height is not enough and can only reach half of the log. When the safety rope hanging from the platform passes through the steel bars, a rope loop is tied on it. In this way, even if the log breaks, it will be held by the steel bars and will not fall directly to the ground.

Zhao Yeqing originally proposed to build it directly with red bricks and cement, which is safer. However, making bricks is a bit troublesome, and they have to be fired after they are made, which takes a long time.

Mu Xi thought that this would be fine. There was a safety rope in the middle, and even if we took a step back, there would still be a buffer, so there wouldn't be too much risk.

Moving and fixing the logs is not an easy task. The uphill road chosen is relatively flat. After driving up to the place where the foundation is laid, the logs are pushed in.

The foundation is very deep and the width is dug according to the size of the logs. Although it is not stable after putting them in, it can still barely stand in place crookedly without falling down.

Three ropes were tied to the top of the log. After the two men tightened the ropes, they fixed one end of the rope to the ground with a long nail. This was the first step.

Then, a log as thick as a thigh is inserted diagonally into the ground between the three ropes, and the top is fixed on the large log in the middle to serve as the second support.

Without a crane, the two of them had to rely on vehicles and manpower to pull the thing. It didn't seem like there were many steps, but when they actually did it, just the first two steps took several days.

By the time the watchtower was completed, it was already New Year's Eve.

Mu Xi removed a camera that was originally fixed on the wooden fence and fixed it to the watchtower so that it could be seen at ordinary times.

However, the range of this camera is limited, and the devices connected at home can only see the images on the surveillance screen. There is no way to control the rotation of the camera, and the surveillance screen can only be viewed in one direction.

If you really want to observe it carefully, you have to go up and see it.

Mu Xi went up to look at it at different times for several days in a row, but did not see anything unusual in the nearby sky.

The height of this watchtower is just enough to clear the tops of the nearby woods. Looking out, one can see a peaceful and tranquil scene. Only occasionally, some birds would be frightened by some unknown animal and fly up from the tree in groups and then land on another tree.

The forest and the meadow seemed smaller from this perspective, and the feeling of having a panoramic view was wonderful. After Mu Xi got down from the observation tower, he asked Zhao Yeqing to climb up and take a look.

After seeing this, the daily observation tasks became popular thereafter.

Mu Xi didn't want her to go up every day. After all, it was still somewhat dangerous and she was a little afraid of heights.

Zhao Yeqing was indeed a little scared, but after going up and sitting on the platform above, she no longer felt that way. The small platform was designed by her, and there were small fences around it, so she felt very safe.

The platform and fence are both made of bamboo. Bamboo is lighter, which can reduce the load-bearing pressure of logs and looks better than wood.

This is what Zhao Yeqing thinks.

The wind above is stronger than that below, and it makes people feel calm.

If only it weren't so cold.

What finally stopped Zhao Yeqing from climbing up was the cold that he hadn't avoided this year.

Zhao Yeqing kept saying that this was an old problem that occurred every year, but Mu Xi insisted that it was caused by her going up there and being blown by the cold wind.

She was so angry that she didn't want to talk to Mu Xi for two days. She felt that this man was so unreasonable and used any excuse to stop her from going up.

Mu Xi also felt puzzled. After being ignored for two days, he looked at Zhao Yeqing with a vague sense of grievance.

How can this make me angry?

Who knew that two days later, Zhao Yeqing's menstrual period arrived. Mu Xi understood, and he kept his tail between his legs and lowered his head for three or four days before Zhao Yeqing finally showed a good mood.

Maybe because of the cold weather, her menstrual period was delayed for several days. Mu Xi found some Chinese herbal medicine from the cabinet and forced her to drink it every day.

Zhao Yeqing said she wanted to go upstairs for another visit, so Mu Xi asked her to take three doses of medicine a day. Since she didn't want to go, she only needed to take two doses.

They say that if you get a cold wind when you go up there, you have to drink an extra bowl of wine.

After going there twice, Zhao Yeqing didn't want to go again. She was so tired of drinking that she turned into a bitter gourd.

Seeing that she refused to go up, Mu Xi secretly increased the dosage of Chinese medicine.

In fact, the dosage is the same. The first three meals are relatively light, while the next two meals are made stronger. Add a sweet Chinese medicine and it will not be difficult to drink.

Just like coaxing a child.
