Chapter 482 Early Eight

Chapter 482 Early Eight

Something finally happened today. The first thing Mu Xi did after going downstairs was to tell Zhao Yeqing.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve waited too long, but my original worries have turned into anticipation. Zhao Yeqing’s first reaction to the news was actually some surprise.

"Appeared?" She widened her eyes and threw the fodder in her hand into the sheepfold. She clapped her hands back and forth, and the grass debris on her palms flew in the air. "The annual leave is only a few days? This villain is not good enough. The benefits are too poor."

Mu Xi was about to have a serious discussion when his mood was blocked by this strange train of thought, and he followed the muttering Zhao Yeqing out of the sheep pen.

"You said that they come out to work so early. Doesn't it mean that the villain probably has a hard time? Compared to the outside world, the competition is quite fierce."

If it wasn't a roll, who would go to work early?

I originally thought that Zhao Yeqing's imagination was ridiculous, but after analyzing it, I didn't expect that it actually made some sense.

Mu Xi nodded in agreement, "I think you're right. They're not too close to us, nor too far away. According to the speed of the helicopter, it will take less than an hour for them to get here. I'm sure they won't come easily."

But if they really come and spend an hour and gasoline, then they must be here with bad intentions.

There must be some plot.

After seeing the helicopter, Mu Xi never stopped observing from a distance. He would go up there to guard at dawn every morning. Zhao Yeqing took out two sweaters from the closet for him to put on. He had to wear more clothes when he stayed up there because the wind was too cold in the morning and evening.

Mu Xi waited for a week and figured out the exact time these people came out. Basically, they would arrive around nine in the morning and go back around five in the afternoon. Sometimes they would stay in the mountains for a whole day before leaving, but even if they stayed for a day, they would go back around five in the afternoon.

Generally speaking, it would be dark after half an hour after 6 o'clock in the winter, and it would be dangerous to fly a helicopter, so he deduced that the group's base was more than 300 kilometers away from the mine.

Mu Xi recalled the most likely city several hundred kilometers away in his mind and had a rough goal in mind.

Zhao Yeqing seemed to have confirmed how correct his previous thoughts were. He patted his thigh lightly, his tone excited, but his eyes were full of disgust:

"See what I said, it's really not easy to get by, isn't it? If the journey is more than an hour, then the people on the plane probably got up before 8 o'clock in the morning to commute. Being a villain and having to work from 8 am to 5 pm is not easy to get by, is it?"

Moreover, it was the same helicopter that went back and forth. Maybe the group only had this one. The person who followed them every day was probably a leader. Zhao Yeqing initially speculated whether it was used to transport people, but then he thought, if it was to transport people, why would it only make one trip from morning to night?

I'm afraid there are already people inside who found a way to walk in. Then that leader takes a helicopter to the construction site every day, and can use the only helicopter to pick people up and drop them off every day. Zhao Yeqing deduced from his many years of experience in watching dramas that they are all the second or third in command.

It might not be easy to get gasoline outside. Non-renewable materials are the most scarce in this special period. Zhao Yeqing became more determined to keep the gasoline station near his home well-protected and never show it to anyone.

The weather did not get colder after the Great Cold, and the temperature remained stable until the Beginning of Spring. After the Beginning of Spring, the weather began to gradually warm up.

Zhao Yeqing sorted out the seeds to be planted before the beginning of spring.

The basement is mostly planted with leafy vegetables, and we can only eat the first strawberry before the temperature rises. This year, there are not many strawberries, but they taste good. Apart from the strawberries, there is nothing special. The tomatoes and peppers planted last year did not produce many fruits when they were transplanted into the basement.

There was only one chili pepper, which was the easiest plant to grow in the Solanaceae family. After Zhao Yeqing's careful pollination, it could even produce a few small red fruits.

This means that almost all fruits and vegetables have to be grown in advance.

Crops in grain fields cannot be planted so quickly due to concerns about late spring cold snaps, but fruit and vegetable seedlings can still be grown in advance and can be done indoors so they won’t be frozen.

It takes a month to grow seedlings, and by the time they are transplanted, the late spring cold snap must have passed.

The crops for this spring were decided last year. There is still a lot of rice left from last year. It was planted in autumn and if preserved well, it will not be a problem to last for more than a year. Zhao Yeqing also wrote in a small notebook to remember to take out all the rice and turn it over to dry again when the sun comes out.

Unpeeled rice, kept dry, can be kept for one to three years.

Judging from their appetite, it probably won’t take that long and they can finish it by the end of the year, provided they don’t eat much pasta.

The wheat at home also needs to be taken out and dried. If it is added to the noodles, it will probably be enough for two people to eat until the autumn of the following year.

What we are going to plant this spring are peanuts, soybeans, red and green beans, sesame, cotton...Except for cotton which is used for weaving cloth, the rest are basically used to make seasonings.

There is not much sesame oil left at home. Peanuts, soybeans and sesame seeds are all grown for oil extraction, but peanut oil has never been extracted. Zhao Yeqing doesn't like peanut oil, which has a strong taste. But last time, in order to use up the chickens at home, he wanted to make Guangdong steamed chicken.

But the steamed chicken tastes best if you apply a layer of peanut oil on it before steaming it. Other oils have a bad taste.

Zhao Yeqing was itching to try some oil press. There weren't many peanuts left at home, so he had to plant some anyway. He also brought back an oil press from the village. It was much simpler than the previous traditional method of oil press. He had to press oil from both sesame oil and soybeans, so he might as well plant some as well from peanuts.

The main purpose of soybean oil pressing is not for the oil, but for the soybean meal after pressing. This thing is perfect for fertilizer. The pressed soybean oil has no special taste and is also good for frying things.

There is also passion fruit. I didn’t plant it last year, so I have to plant it well in the spring this year. There are not many seeds left. If I don’t plant it well this time, I may not be able to find seeds later.

The passion fruit seedlings have been grown in the basement with other fruits and vegetables under growing lights. There are not many seeds left, only about 20 to 30 plants, which should be enough for two people.

The surprise was that many of the mulberry trees that were transplanted last year actually survived. Seeing that the helicopter had no intention of coming this way, Mu Xi and his team took a day off to transport back the mulberry trees that they had originally planned to transplant.

When the late spring cold snap came, these unstable mulberry trees were covered with plastic sheets and safely passed the first test of the year.

The mulberry trees are growing normally, and each one has grown soft new leaves after the spring breeze.
