Chapter 63: Exchanging Supplies, Wild Wolf Valley

Shen Zhiyi turned to Chen Peng and whispered, "Brother Peng, how much candy do you have left? Is it enough for us to exchange for coal?"

"That should be enough. I still have eight pounds of candy." Chen Peng counted the candy in his hand. Apart from the candy he used to help the purple mouse peel pine nuts, he still had six pounds left.

Shen Zhiyi remained silent. She knew Chen Peng had candy, but she hadn't expected so much.

"Squeak." Do you have anything else besides candy? The mouse has heard that humans have many delicious foods.

The three remained silent. Humans did indeed have a lot of delicious food, but that was in the past. Now, it was a time when people were not getting enough to eat or wear.

"...And bananas, do you want some?" Shen Zhiyi wasn't sure if there were any bananas here, or if these mice liked to eat them.

"Squeak?" A banana? What's that?

But clearly, the rats here have never seen what a banana is.

Shen Zhiyi took one out, peeled it open, and handed it to the gray mouse.

The gray mouse sniffed the scent; it was a very sweet smell.

The gray mouse took a bite and experienced a soft, chewy texture it had never tasted before.

tasty!

More!

"Squeak squeak squeak!" I want this! And candy too!

The gray mouse squeaked impatiently.

"Okay, how many coals can I trade one banana for?" Shen Zhiyi probed.

"Squeak? Squeak squeak squeak." How much? The mouse doesn't know either. You can take them yourselves. Anyway, the mouse family doesn't need these black pieces. In fact, there are too many. It would be even better if you could take more.

The gray mouse continued, "Squeak squeak." There are too many mice now, and they're almost out of place to live. Anyway, you can take more; the mouse doesn't mind.

The mouse indicated that it was very generous and told the mouse to take whatever it wanted.

Shen Zhiyi and the other two exchanged glances. Was there really such a good thing?

"We'll leave you a wooden box here. Could you please help us put the coal, these black lumps, into the box?"

"Here's what we'll do. I'll give you two banana tree seeds and some bananas. Find a place to plant the seeds, and you'll have bananas to eat from now on."

Shen Zhiyi thought for a moment. There were many places where coal would be used, so he might as well take this opportunity to build a good relationship with the rats so that he could continue to trade with them if he came here again in the future.

"Squeak!" Seed!

The gray mouse was shocked. It never expected that this human actually had seeds! Shouldn't it try and curry favor with him?

Humans really do have a lot of good things!

"Squeak squeak squeak!" The mouse agreed! You can put the box here, and the mouse will take care of everything!

Shen Zhiyi smiled slightly. These rats are so easy to coax.

The three men each took out twenty wooden boxes.

"Squeak?" Is that all? Human, can't you put in a little more? There are really a lot of black spots in the rat's house.

"Hiss." Sangsang tugged at Shen Zhiyi's sleeve. "How about we each get fifty boxes? The Wanjing Chamber of Commerce has probably already taken all the coal and stuff. Once we've used it all up, we don't know when we'll be able to come back again. Why don't we take advantage of this opportunity to get more?"

“Sangsang is right. Even if we don’t use them all, we can trade them for goods. The things from Wanjing Chamber of Commerce are expensive, and not everyone can afford them.”

Shen Zhiyi understood the meaning behind Chen Peng's words.

“Alright, then let’s each get fifty boxes.” Shen Zhiyi nodded and took out thirty more wooden boxes.

"Squeak, squeak, squeak." That's more like it, otherwise the mice wouldn't even dare to take your seeds.

The gray mouse seemed to have thought of something again: "Squeak squeak squeak." Humans, next time you come, you can come find the mouse, and the mouse will give you black blocks for free.

"That's great! I'll bring you something else next time," Shen Zhiyi replied with a smile.

"Squeak!" Alright! The mouse is waiting for you!

"Squeak, squeak, squeak!" Where's the mouse? Where's the mouse? The mouse wants seeds too!

The purple mouse on the side was getting anxious. Why wasn't it getting any? It was the mouse that brought them here!

"Do you want candy or seeds?" Shen Zhiyi asked.

The purple mouse hesitated for a moment, then squeaked! Seed!

Shen Zhiyi chuckled. "Okay."

Chen Peng first gave the gray mouse two pounds of candy.

Shen Zhiyi gave it two seeds and fifteen bananas to the gray mouse.

Another seed was given to the purple mouse.

"We have other things to do and need to leave for a while. We'll come back for the wooden crates later."

"Squeak!" Okay! Wrap it around the mouse.

After getting the seeds, the purple mouse immediately pulled away from the cliff edge; it was going back to plant bananas!

Shen Zhiyi and the others also left the cliff edge.

It took another hour and a half, leaving them with nineteen and a half hours to get things moving.

"Xingxing, Wolf Valley is ahead. Shall we go around it?" Sangsang looked at the route map. Wolf Valley looked dangerous, so it was better to avoid it.

"It's too late." Chen Peng stared in a certain direction ahead, his voice heavy.

Two gray-furred wolves appeared not far ahead.

They are larger than wolves on Earth, reaching up to a person's waist when they stand up.

The gray wolves stared intently at Shen Zhiyi and the others, as if they would pounce on them at the slightest movement.

"So what do we do now? Fight?" Shen Zhiyi had her right hand behind her back, ready to take out the Silver Moon Spear from her backpack whenever Chen Peng said to fight.

The little dried fish on the side licked its paws, waiting for Shen Zhiyi to give the order.

Chen Peng shook his head, "We can't fight. If we do, it will attract the other wolves in Wild Wolf Valley, and then we won't be able to leave."

Shen Zhiyi nodded: "That's true. Wolves are quite vengeful creatures. If we get targeted, our trip today will have been for nothing."

“Let’s go to the right. The map says there’s a forest over there, but it doesn’t specify what it is,” Sangsang suggested.

"Okay, let's go."

Shen Zhiyi and the other two glanced at the gray wolf that was still staring at them not far away, then turned and headed in the direction Sangsang had indicated.

The gray wolf behind them watched them slowly walk away without making any further moves.

Once they were out of sight, the gray wolf jumped off the rock and ran towards Wolf Valley.

As for what happened afterward, Shen Zhiyi and the others had no idea.

Sang Sang led the way, while Shen Zhiyi and Chen Peng followed and observed the surrounding area.

However, this actually led them to discover something.

The path Sangsang led them on was a little strange, and it felt like they were going further and further into the remote area.

"Sangsang, where are we going?" Shen Zhiyi stopped and asked Sangsang.

Sangsang turned and glanced at Shen Zhiyi, her voice unchanged: "Let's go to that grove we were talking about earlier, what's wrong?"

"Really? Then why did you lead us in circles?" Shen Zhiyi had just noticed that they had already circled around here three or four times.

After the second lap, Shen Zhiyi felt something was off, so she plucked a little bit of the dried fish and threw it aside.

Sure enough, on the third lap, she saw the fluff she had thrown away.
