Chapter 21 A Pair of Brothers

In a remote little village, there lived two brothers who depended on each other for survival.

No parents to rely on, no friends to speak of.

In a dilapidated temple

"Xiao Lin, have a steamed bun. A kind brother just gave it to me." A five or six-year-old child handed a steamed bun to a weak little boy lying on the pile of straw on the ground. Invisible black mist slowly emanated from his body.

"Brother, why don't you eat it? I feel like I'm about to die," the younger brother said.

She was born weak and sickly, and basically lay in bed every day. She was a burden to her brother just by living.

"It's okay, brother isn't hungry, Xiaolin can eat," the older brother said, placing the steamed bun in his younger brother's hand.

Just as the younger brother was about to decline, several menacing voices came from outside, "So you two little brats are here. You haven't paid your begging site fee for this month yet!"

Several burly men walked in.

"Brother Long, could you give me a few more days? I've used all the money I asked for to treat my brother's illness," the older brother said, tugging at Brother Long's sleeve.

"Don't touch me, I'm filthy."

Brother Long continued, "No money, huh? If you have no money, then give me some."

As he spoke, several men behind him stepped forward and gave him a severe beating.

Inside the dilapidated temple, besides the sounds of punches and kicks, there was only the younger brother's cries for mercy.

...

"If you can't pay next month, you can forget about working here. Let's go," Brother Long said, looking at the child convulsing on the ground.

As he left the dilapidated temple, a dark shadow flew out from above his head.

"Brother, are you alright?" The younger brother crawled over from the side and touched his older brother's hand.

After a while, the older brother finally calmed down: "It's okay, it's okay, don't worry."

"What a beast, hitting so hard," he couldn't help but curse again.

The younger brother also clenched his fists involuntarily.

Their lives were very difficult, but if it weren't for the local bullies, they could barely make ends meet by begging, at least they wouldn't have to suffer such physical pain.

That's just how the world is; the weak are always the ones who get bullied.

......

Later, an old Taoist priest came and said that the older brother was very talented and wanted to take him away. The older brother asked if he could take his younger brother with him, but the old Taoist priest refused.

The older brother said that if the younger brother didn't go, he wouldn't go either, so the Taoist priest had no choice but to take them with him.

And so they followed the Taoist priest into the sect. The older brother was indeed very talented and entered the True Spirit Realm in just a few years, while the younger brother was less talented and his cultivation level remained low.

Since he was currently well-fed and clothed, the younger brother didn't care much about his cultivation level.

Later, the old Taoist priest who taught them passed away.

The two brothers were targeted by other disciples, who would try to steal their cultivation resources on the first of each month.

That would be one thing, but they have sadistic tendencies and like to beat people up when they have nothing better to do.

And so, the two brothers grew up. Around the age of twenty, the older brother, because of his high talent, was eventually selected as an inner disciple to cultivate in seclusion.

Before going into seclusion, he dealt with all those who liked to bully his younger brother, only then could he feel at ease.

My younger brother does some unimportant work outside the gate, which is alright.

However, the good times didn't last long. One day, the younger brother accidentally dirtied the clothes of a disciple from a prestigious family. The disciple was furious, beat the younger brother, and he was bedridden for half a month.

So as not to disturb his brother's cultivation, he didn't tell anyone.

Afterwards, seeing that his younger brother had not resisted last time, the scion of the aristocratic family intensified his beating and gave him another severe beating. Left with no other choice, the younger brother revealed his older brother's name.

"Oh, Liu Feng is your brother? My brother beat him to a pulp a long time ago, and now he's doing odd jobs in the inner sect, hahahaha," the aristocratic disciple laughed, and a black shadow floated out from above his head.

It turned out that Liu Feng was vying for power with his brother, but his brother used despicable means to destroy all of Liu Feng's cultivation, leaving him only with the fate of being a menial laborer. However, Liu Feng did not want to see his brother sad, so he did not tell him.

That night, as the younger brother lay in bed, recalling the words of the aristocratic disciple, tears involuntarily streamed down his face.

Slowly, her tears dried up, her eyes grew fierce, and she gritted her teeth, saying, "I will become stronger and kill all those who bullied us!"

Wisps of visible black energy slowly appeared on the younger brother's body, and then gradually disappeared.

From then on, the younger brother was no longer weak and worked hard to cultivate, but his talent was too poor and he made little progress. However, his fate of being bullied remained unchanged.

Sometimes, the older brother felt a pang of heartache watching from the shadows, so he wrote a letter to his younger brother, promising to go down the mountain together.

When the younger brother saw his older brother again, seeing him limping, his eyes reddened. They hadn't done anything wrong, so why was God treating them like this?

So the two decided to go to a small town to make a living.

Once, when the two were walking through a forest, they encountered a man in black robes. The man in black robes seemed to see their plight and said to them, "Do you want to become stronger? Do you want to kill those who bullied you? Come find me here tonight."

The older brother didn't believe him and pulled his younger brother away, but the younger brother remained silent the whole way.

The older brother also realized it and said, "Don't be foolish. That person doesn't look like a good person at all. Don't go."

The younger brother nodded without saying a word, but the seed of wanting to become stronger had already been planted. So, that night, while his older brother was asleep, he secretly slipped out.

The older brother noticed and secretly followed them.

"You've arrived," the black-robed man's voice rang out as soon as they reached the spot.

"Can you really make me stronger?" the younger brother asked.

"Um"

"Then what should I do?"

"Stand still and don't resist," the man in black said.
