Chapter 66 "I just can't stand seeing my wife suffer."
After Shang Chen left, he had someone drive him to Yan Xu's school.
Yan Xu had just returned from playing ball with his classmates and was still sweating a lot when he was stopped by Assistant Wu.
He turned his head and saw Shang Chen in the car. He jogged over and said obediently, "Brother-in-law."
"Get in the car, let's talk."
Yan Xu tensed up. "What are you talking about?"
Shang Chen glanced at him with his dark eyes, and Yan Xu eagerly went around to the other side to get into the car.
Yan Xu is about the same age as Shang Ze. When he was a child, his parents were busy, so they often sent him to Shangjia to do his homework with Shang Ze.
At that time, Shang Chen was in charge of supervision.
Therefore, like Shang Ze, Yan Xu had always revered Shang Chen since childhood.
Shang Chen was nine years older than them. He was calm and reliable, and sometimes took on the responsibility of disciplining them as the head of the family.
As far back as he could remember, Yan Xu knew that Shang Chen would be his brother-in-law, and he had always both loved and feared him.
The fact that Shang Chen wants to talk to him now sends chills down my spine even more than when Yan Xu's senior year headmaster said he wanted to talk to him.
The car pulled up to a nearby coffee shop, where Shang Chen booked a private room.
"Would you like something to drink?"
Yan Xu was restless, feeling as if he had needles under his buttocks.
"Brother-in-law, what do you want to talk to me about? Just say it."
"Don't do this... I'm a little scared."
The waiter brought over the coffee, and Shang Chen lightly tapped the table with his fingertips.
"Let's have some coffee first."
Yan Xu: "...Okay."
Shang Chen took a small sip of his coffee and placed it on the table.
Yan Xu quickly put his coffee cup on the table and sat down properly.
"I'm talking to you today because I want to talk about your sister and Wenxi."
Yan Xu's expression changed slightly, and he said with displeasure, "She complained to you?!"
Yan Xu only recognizes Yan Zhao as her older sister; she can only call her Wen Xi.
Shang Chen's dark eyes silently gazed at him.
Yan Xu immediately suppressed his dissatisfaction and became more obedient.
Shang Chen spoke coolly: "You resent Wen Xi a lot?"
Yan Xu paused for a moment, then said, "No."
"I've only had a few interactions with her, why should I resent her?"
Shang Chen: "So you really dislike Wen Xi?"
Yan Xu remained silent for a moment, not giving a direct answer, but this was tantamount to acquiescing.
Yan Xu couldn't help but ask, "Brother-in-law, did my parents send you to plead for me?"
"no."
Shang said calmly, "I just can't stand seeing my wife suffer."
Yan Xu choked on his words and retorted, "If I don't pamper her like my parents do, does that mean I'm letting her suffer?"
Shang Chen said calmly, "I can take care of my wife; I don't need you to."
"Yan Xu, I only have one question to ask."
Yan Xu pursed his lips. "What did you say?"
Where is your manners?
Yan Xu's face flushed red instantly, as if he had been slapped in the face.
"Brother-in-law, what do you mean by this?"
He felt that Shang Chen had come specifically to humiliate him!
Yan Xu was very angry, but when he met Shang Chen's dark and cold eyes, he dared not vent his anger.
Shang Chen: "Since you and Wen Xi have no grudges against each other, why do you always have to speak ill of each other?"
Yan Xu instinctively wanted to retort, "I didn't!"
But as soon as the words left his mouth, Yan Xu felt a burning pain in his cheeks when he met Shang Chen's deep and indifferent gaze.
If we look at all the things Yan Xu said to Wen Xi, it's impossible to sum them up in just the words "harsh words".
Shang Chen: "The mistake lies with both sets of parents; you and Yan Zhao grew up together, so I can understand if you favor Yan Zhao; I can also understand if you are dissatisfied with your parents."
"But what did Wenxi do wrong in this matter?"
"Even if Wenxi were a stranger, let alone your blood-related sister, you should still have basic manners and politeness."
Shang Chen spoke these words in the manner of an elder, revealing his imposing and powerful aura as a superior.
Yan Xu was speechless, turning his head away and refusing to look directly at Shang Chen.
After a moment, Shang Chen picked up the coffee on the table and took a sip: "You can tell me your thoughts."
He wasn't a domineering person; as long as Yan Xu was in the right, he wouldn't deliberately make things difficult for him.
Yan Xu's eyes suddenly reddened, and after a long silence, he looked at Shang Chen.
"As far back as I can remember, my parents have always told me to protect my older sister and to put her first in everything."
“Before they had me, they consulted my sister’s wishes. It was only after my sister agreed that I came into being.”
“My older sister always played with me when I was little. When I got into trouble, my sister would protect me and plead for me.”
“My parents doted on her, and I’ve always felt that I had to protect my sister and not let her suffer any injustice.”
"But one day, someone suddenly told me that my sister was not my sister, and that another stranger was my real sister."
"My parents accepted her, and they even want her to take my sister's place." Yan Xu asked, her eyes red-rimmed, "But why should I accept her?!"
Yan Xu had wanted to say this for a long time.
However, Yan Huai'an and Zhou Ruo were busy getting the children back and arranging their two children's weddings, so they had no time to care about Yan Xu's thoughts.
Once the dust settled, Yan Xu's opinion became insignificant.
His discontent turned into rebellion and eccentricity, and no one took his opinions seriously.
“Brother-in-law, I’ve always considered you my brother-in-law since I was a child, and I always thought you would marry my sister.”
“Suddenly one day, my sister is no longer my sister, and you have married another woman... I can’t stand watching you being all lovey-dovey with another woman!”
"Although I still call you brother-in-law, I feel like you're no longer my brother-in-law."
Do you understand what I mean?
Yan Xu looked at Shang Chen with accusation in his eyes, as if he were accusing Shang Chen of betraying him.
"I understand."
Shang Shen probably understands what children are thinking.
He calmly replied, "Your sister doesn't want to marry me."
"If my sister is willing to marry you, will you marry her?"
Shang Chen remained silent.
Yan Xu laughed sarcastically: "I knew it. You all think I'm a fool, you're all just trying to fool me."
"It's one thing if my sister doesn't want to get married, but it's another thing if you don't want to marry her either. Otherwise, you've been waiting until you're thirty, how come neither of our families has ever made any wedding preparations?!"
Shang Chen's gaze darkened. "Thirty years old, is that old?"
"nonsense!"
