Chapter 316 A Life Well Lived

Mo Shang looked embarrassed and could only speak in a low voice, "I was confined to my home by the city lockdown order and had no choice but to resort to this tactic. I didn't expect it to blow up here. It's really a misunderstanding!"

"Young Master Mo, shouldn't you be coming this way?" Zhong Kang squinted at Mo Shang and spoke coldly.

"I have no connection with this demon, so naturally I stand on your side, sir!" Seeing that Zhong Kang had relented, Mo Shang hurriedly slipped over to Zhong Kang's side.

Just as Zixin and Huaxiaoxiao were about to go over, several people suddenly rushed up and tied Zhongkang up.

"What are you doing!" Mo Shang shouted anxiously, unable to break free.

“Although Young Master Mo is not a member of the demons, he still has to take responsibility for blowing up the prison!” Zhong Kang said coldly, narrowing his eyes.

Before Mo Shang could protest, Gu Liyan had regained some strength and hurriedly turned around, grabbing Zi Xin and Hua Xiaoxiao's hands. "Let's go!"

Hua Xiaoxiao was stunned and looked at Gu Liyan's hand in surprise. It was cold and had no temperature, but the touch was very familiar!

"You demon, where do you think you're going!" Seeing Gu Liyan and the others trying to escape, Zhong Kang wasn't about to let them get away. He quickly ordered the archers behind him, "Fire!"

A dozen or so archers immediately fired their crossbow bolts at Gu Liyan and the others. Upon seeing this, Gu Liyan pushed the two women forward.

"You guys go first!"

Without wasting words, Hua Xiaoxiao and Zixin quickened their pace and fled for their lives.

Gu Liyan raised his hand, conjuring an ice shield to block the crossbow bolts. However, as more and more bolts came, cracks appeared in Gu Liyan's ice shield.

Seeing the cracked ice shield, Gu Liyan's expression changed slightly. He hurriedly retreated, but he was still a step too slow. The ice shield shattered, and three crossbow bolts flew over, directly piercing Gu Liyan's chest. Gu Liyan groaned, no longer wanting to fight, and turned to run away.

Hua Xiaoxiao and Zixin, who had run out on the other side, saw that things were not going well and hurriedly kicked the coachman off the carriage, grabbed the horse, and prepared to escape.

Hua Xiaoxiao glanced back at Gu Liyan's direction and found him casting a spell to stop the pursuers behind him. Seeing Gu Liyan being hit by the crossbow bolt, her heart tightened and she felt a strange pain in her chest.

Recalling Gu Liyan's back view just now, it looked so much like the back view of Xiao Li, whom she was trying to save. Without turning her head, she said to Zi Xin, "Let's meet in the desolate city. I'm going to save him!"

Zi Xin watched Hua Xiaoxiao run back and fled directly towards the desolate city without thinking.

Gu Liyan clutched the wound on his chest, blood seeping continuously from between his fingers. He felt his body growing weaker and weaker, but even so, he did not lose his composure. Instead, he felt gratified that he had been able to save Hua Xiaoxiao.

As long as she is safe, he has no regrets even if he dies!

Thinking of this, his body went limp and he stumbled to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

"Catch him! Don't let him get away!" Zhong Kang's voice grew closer and closer. Gu Liyan tried to get up but fell down again, powerless.

"Is this all I have to do? This is really terrible! The mission... and Hua Xiaoxiao... I haven't fulfilled my wish... If I had known... I would have told Hua Xiaoxiao the truth... then my life wouldn't have been in vain..." Gu Liyan thought despairingly.

Just then, he suddenly heard the sound of horses' hooves, galloping powerfully towards him. Gu Liyan looked up and saw the source of the sound.

The dazzling, warm light rose vigorously from the horizon, illuminating the beautiful figure rushing towards it.

"Xiaoxiao!" Gu Liyan was stunned, looking at Hua Xiaoxiao running towards him. "Am I...am I dreaming?!"

Hua Xiaoxiao stretched out her hand, "Get on the horse quickly!"

Gu Liyan gritted his teeth, used his last bit of strength to grab Hua Xiaoxiao's hand, and mounted his horse! Hua Xiaoxiao quickly turned her horse around and chased after Zixin in the direction she had gone.

Zhong Kang and the others behind them grew further and further away, gradually disappearing from sight...

"You..." Gu Liyan started to say something, but suddenly stopped and quickly shut his mouth.

"My name is Hua Xiaoxiao." Hua Xiaoxiao thought Gu Liyan was going to ask her name, so she spoke up.

Gu Liyan opened his mouth, recalling his conversation with her just now. There seemed to be nothing unusual. Thinking of this, Gu Liyan couldn't help but smile, realizing the loophole in his bet with Mo Li!

He tugged at the corner of his mouth, but a trickle of blood flowed down it. Gu Liyan frowned slightly. The bumpy road made his internal organs ache again, and the wound on his chest was burning with pain. The whip marks all over his body from being beaten in prison were also starting to trigger his pain nerves.

All I could feel was pain!

Once he relaxed, the pain became unbearable! Gu Liyan swayed and fell straight off the horse.

Hua Xiaoxiao felt a void behind her and immediately sensed something was wrong. Before she could stop her horse, she grabbed Gu Liyan with her backhand, and due to inertia, the two of them fell to the ground at the same time.

The horse, feeling light on its back, galloped away in a flash! The two who fell off the horse tumbled down the hillside.

They finally stopped on level ground. Gu Liyan fainted on the spot, and Hua Xiaoxiao was also dazed from the fall, but...

"It doesn't hurt?!"

A look of surprise flashed in Hua Xiaoxiao's eyes. She looked down and saw that she was lying on top of Gu Liyan, who had completely lost consciousness.

Just now, Hua Xiaoxiao felt a void behind her and knew that Gu Liyan was about to fall off his horse. Her mind went blank for a moment, and she instinctively reached out to grab Gu Liyan...

The instant they both fell off their horses, Hua Xiaoxiao felt herself being held in Gu Liyan's arms, and most of the impact of rolling down the hillside was on Gu Liyan!

Hua Xiaoxiao looked at Gu Liyan beneath her. He was covered in blood, and it was impossible to tell where he was injured. Three crossbow bolts had almost penetrated his chest. Even though he was already badly wounded, he still did not forget to protect himself at the last moment...
