Chapter 337 Gives Me Hope

A cold wind howled and snow drifted for miles. The young man in white stood before the palace, looking at the archers surrounding him with a faint smile. "So this is how a ruler repays a debt of gratitude. I've learned something!"

Turning his head, Gu Liyan's smile turned cold as he looked at Duan Zhengxiu who was walking up to him.

Duan Zhengxiu stood before Gu Liyan, his heart filled with trepidation, but in order to unify the Three Kingdoms, he decided to take the risk.

The world was a vast expanse of white, all covered in silver, all because of one person. Duan Zhengxiu was wary of Gu Liyan, so his tone softened. "Gu Liyan, as long as you say now that you are willing to become the national teacher of Shuyi Kingdom and serve me loyally, after the world is unified... I will give you half!"

Gu Liyan's lips curled up slightly, and he smiled faintly, "Your Highness, your words are indeed very pleasant to hear. However, do you perhaps think I, Gu Liyan, am some naive fool who has never seen the world? I'm afraid that once I help you conquer the world, you will put me to death!"

Duan Zhengxiu's expression changed. Gu Liyan had seen through his thoughts at a glance. He immediately looked at Gu Liyan with a cold and gloomy face and said, "Gu Liyan, I have given you half of the country. What more do you want? Don't push your luck!"

"Hmph, me pushing my luck? You're just a mere mortal, and you dare to dream of being favored by heaven after seizing the throne? You're really overestimating yourself!" Gu Liyan sneered.

Hearing Gu Liyan's mocking words, Duan Zhengxiu was so angry that his chest heaved as he pointed at Gu Liyan and shouted, "Guards! Fire arrows at me! Execute him on the spot!"

Upon hearing Duan Zhengxiu's words, nearly a thousand archers shuddered. The reason was simple: their hands were stiff from the cold and they had no strength to draw their bows fully.

Gu Liyan sneered, "Do you think your soldiers will have a chance to fight under my control?"

Gu Liyan turned his head and pointed to the magnificent landscape, saying, "This world has not yet reached prosperity, yet you want to expand your territory and start wars. Do you know how many wives and children will be torn apart, how many families will be destroyed, and how much divine retribution will you suffer because of your thoughts?!"

"I have not brought happiness to the people, yet I want to destroy their happiness. I, Gu Liyan, do not want such unification, and no one in the world is allowed to have it!"

Gu Liyan's voice resounded throughout the entire palace hall. Duan Zhengxiu, seeing Gu Liyan's resolute attitude, was at a loss for words.

Just then, a soldier in the crowd flicked his wrist, and an arrow shot straight at Gu Liyan, but because it lacked power, it landed about ten meters away from Gu Liyan.

Gu Liyan glanced at the direction from which the arrow had been shot, and her cold gaze made the man panic and fall to the ground, his bow and arrow falling to the ground as if he were in an ice cave.

Are you going to kill me?

Gu Liyan's icy voice was like the Grim Reaper from hell, and the man was so frightened that he hurriedly knelt on the ground, "No, no!"

Duan Zhengxiu was furious when he saw his soldiers kneeling before Gu Liyan.

With a cold gaze sweeping over the nearly one thousand archers, Gu Liyan spoke calmly, "Those who want my life, step forward!"

The wind howled and the snow fell heavily, but it was so gentle in front of Gu Liyan that not a single snowflake landed on him.

The man who shot the arrow knelt on the ground, not daring to raise his head. How could they, mere mortals, possibly contend with this person who possessed extraordinary abilities that could move heaven and earth?

He knelt there, and the soldiers behind him also knelt down, all with fear on their faces.

Seeing his soldiers lay down their weapons and kneel, Duan Zhengxiu's face flushed red with rage as he roared, "What are you doing? He's only one person! Are you all afraid of him? Pick up your arrows and shoot him! Useless! A bunch of useless trash!"

"Duan Zhengxiu! Don't you understand?" Gu Liyan turned around and said coldly, "What they want is not the unification of the world, but a peaceful existence where they are content with the status quo!"

"Shut up! Gu Liyan, what do you know about this world? The world of the strong preying on the weak has no need for peace! The unification of the Three Kingdoms is the best outcome!" Duan Zhengxiu pointed at Gu Liyan and shouted.

Gu Liyan smiled faintly, "You're right! The unification of the Three Kingdoms was indeed the best outcome, but—"

Gu Liyan suddenly changed the subject, "But Shuyi Kingdom and you are not worthy of being a kingdom that can unify this world!"

Hearing Gu Liyan's words, Duan Zhengxiu trembled with rage. He drew his sword and pointed it at Gu Liyan, shouting, "Gu Liyan, I swear as the monarch of Shuyi Kingdom that I will unify this world and show you! When that time comes, I will make you—crush your bones and turn them to dust!"

"Hahaha..." Gu Liyan laughed loudly, "Do you think that by achieving unification you can control my life and death? Since you are so confident, then I'll wait and see how you unify the Three Kingdoms!"

After speaking, Gu Liyan walked out of the main hall, and the archers kneeling on the ground stepped aside to make way for him.

Just then, Duan Zhengxiu threw down his longsword and coldly said to Xian'er beside him, "Give me my bow!"

Xian'er was taken aback, and hurriedly turned around to pick up the bow and arrows that were placed in the main hall.

Duan Zhengxiu took a breath, immediately drew his bow, and shouted at Gu Liyan's retreating figure, "Traitor! Die—"

Gu Liyan heard Duan Zhengxiu's angry voice behind him, a cunning glint in his eyes, and slowly turned around. He then saw arrows whistling towards him.

All eyes turned to Gu Liyan, their hearts leaping into their throats. But Gu Liyan remained calm and composed, showing no intention of dodging. Just when everyone thought he would outmaneuver the attack, something unexpected happened…

laugh--

The arrow pierced flesh, and the splattered blood covered the earth. The blood on the earth, still hot, resembled plum blossoms blooming in winter...
