"This, this..." Gu Liyan looked at the corpses, some of which were still heaving in their chests and not quite dead yet. He hurriedly shouted at the movers, "What are you doing? They're not dead yet!"
The porters stopped what they were doing and all looked at Gu Liyan.
Looking at their filthy appearance, their hands covered in mud from carrying loads, Gu Liyan couldn't bear to criticize them. However, for the sake of those who might still survive, Gu Liyan gritted her teeth and asked, "Some of them aren't dead yet, why aren't you saving them? Why are you putting them with the dead?"
"Where did this child come from?"
"It doesn't look like what we have here."
"You're dressed so cleanly! Could you be a snake-man?"
Instead of immediately rescuing Gu Liyan, the dozen or so people began to scrutinize her and whisper among themselves.
Gu Li looked at them, their simple, honest eyes showing no sign of wariness. Just then, a voice came from the distance, "The captain's here!"
"Captain, come quick! There's someone acting strangely here!"
The man, with dark skin and a gun in his hand, walked over and said, "What's the matter? I just took a bite of my food and you're making a fuss. How annoying!"
"Old Meng, this little kid is really strange."
"Yes! Take a look!"
Several people greeted the man.
Meng Zhong walked over and saw Gu Liyan dressed in all white. He said in surprise, "Goodness, is this kid wearing a college uniform from a big city? I heard that the eldest son of the Mo family, Mo Li, graduated from college and came back these days. Is that him?"
Gu Liyan blinked, then, remembering the new identity the information had given him, immediately nodded. "That's right, it's me!"
"Is that Liwa? She's grown so big already?"
"Wow, this child was handsome even as a child, he'll be amazing when he grows up!"
Everyone gathered around and greeted Gu Liyan.
"Mo family boy, how did you get back? Where's your luggage?"
"Did you see those snake people bastards on the road? You'd better stay away from them!"
Gu Liyan awkwardly began, "I... I lost my luggage on the way. Um... how about we help them first?"
There are still a few survivors among that group of people waiting to be rescued!
They found three survivors from the pile of corpses: a burly middle-aged man, a gaunt young man, and a pretty young girl.
Gu Liyan squatted down and examined them one by one. Seeing their injuries, she thought to herself, "These dark, gaping wounds, could they be from weapons in this world? I remember Mo Chen told me to cram on the medicine of this world; it seems it really will come in handy..."
Seeing Gu Liyan's furrowed brows, Meng Zhong said, "I knew it! There's no hope for him. Living would only bring him suffering!"
"Don't worry, they can still be saved. We just need to remove the bullet and stop the bleeding," Gu Liyan said after a moment's thought. "Of course, we can't let the wound get infected. By the way, where's the hospital around here? Let's get them there quickly!"
"Forget about hospitals, even the doctors in our village have run away!" a middle-aged man nearby said. "All the capable ones have run away!"
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Mowa, to tell you the truth, your adoptive parents are dead too!" Meng Zhong said.
Gu Liyan pursed his lips without much emotion, and nodded. "Life is inherently difficult in chaotic times, and death may be a relief for them."
Upon hearing Gu Liyan's words, everyone nodded in unison.
"No wonder he's a college student, he's cultured!"
Gu Liyan looked at the three people lying on the ground who were still breathing and said, "Even so, life is precious. Let's save as many as we can! You guys lend a hand and take them to the hospital. I'll see if I can save them."
Everyone rushed forward to help, but Gu Liyan quickly said, "Don't rush, don't rush, find a stretcher to carry them so as not to aggravate their wounds."
After a flurry of activity, Gu Liyan finally saw what this world called a "medical clinic".
After the mess, with dust everywhere, Gu Liyan frowned. How could they possibly perform the so-called "surgery" in such an environment? Preventing infection was easier said than done!
Gu Liyan sighed, "Is there a clean place? The environment here is no good."
"Yes, yes, follow me!" a young man in the crowd said, leading the way.
Gu Liyan picked up some surgical instruments from the hospital before rushing over.
Inside the dilapidated thatched hut, which was relatively clean, a woman was combing her hair in front of a mirror as soon as she entered. Seeing so many people come in, she shouted at the top of her lungs, "Hey, what are you all doing? Why are you bringing a dead body here! Get it out of here right now!"
"Auntie, this is a matter of life and death, saving lives is the most important thing!" the young man named Huo Tong said urgently.
"You little brat, why aren't you staying home and fooling around with them! Get them out of here right now..." Auntie's eyes lit up when she saw Gu Liyan walk in, her attitude completely changed, and she hurriedly stepped forward, "Where are you and young man from?"
Gu Liyan ignored the flirtatious glances from the young lady and instead said, "A life is at stake, saving lives is the priority. Please, young lady, do me the favor and let me save the person."
“Sure! Quickly carry the person inside!” The young woman readily agreed.
Huo Tong rolled his eyes and glared at his aunt with annoyance, thinking to himself, "This little lady has been so lonely and empty ever since Father died! She can't resist when she sees a handsome young man!"
Gu Liyan checked the three wounds again, then turned to the group and said, "The surgery must be performed immediately. Boil water and prepare clean gauze. Have all irrelevant personnel leave!"
