Chapter 475 Lifesaving Grace

Wang Qi trembled with fright, but thinking of Gu Liyan, she mustered her courage and stood there with her arms outstretched to block their path.

"Why don't you just tell them I'm not in the village?"

Just when Wang Qi was in despair, a familiar voice came from not far away.

Wang Qi turned her head and saw Gu Liyan walking towards them unhurriedly. "Mo, Mo Li..."

Seeing her staring blankly at him, Gu Liyan smiled slightly and said, "What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and come over. Are you going to join forces with these two snake people?"

Upon hearing Gu Liyan's words, Wang Qi excitedly ran towards him.

Just then, the snake-man captain opened his blood-red maw, and his sharp tongue shot towards Wang Qi.

"Watch out!" Gu Liyan said, moving swiftly to Wang Qi's side and grabbing her to dodge to the side.

Gu Liyan and Wang Qi fell to the ground, with Gu Liyan landing on top of her. Wang Qi screamed in pain and angrily scolded, "How can you be so heartless? Why are you using me as a cushion?"

Gu Liyan hurriedly stood up, glaring at her with annoyance, "What a troublesome person..."

"You still dare to talk back to me, you..." Wang Qi's words stopped abruptly as she looked at Gu Liyan's left shoulder, where a deep, bone-revealing wound was constantly oozing blood.

Wang Qi looked at Gu Liyan with a worried expression, "Are you... are you alright?"

Gu Liyan turned his head without changing his expression and looked at the snake-man. "I never expected that the snake-man would be so despicable as to launch a sneak attack from behind!"

Wang Qi rolled her eyes, wondering who had ambushed and defeated the two snake-men earlier...

"Sisi~ Being injured isn't enough, you must die!" The snake-man captain squinted and looked coldly at Gu Liyan.

Gu Liyan sneered, "Do you think this little injury can hurt me?"

Although Gu Liyan's left arm was injured, his dominant right hand was still intact. He took out the scalpel he always carried and pointed it at the snake-man, saying, "I cut off its tongue. Do you want to try cutting yours off too?"

The snake-man captain squinted at Gu Liyan, flicking its tongue silently, seemingly considering something. When it saw sweat beading on Gu Liyan's forehead, it sneered, "Heh heh~ Although I haven't reached the third rank, I'm close. The poison isn't fatal, but it will still numb your arm!"

Gu Liyan frowned. Although his left arm was not numb, he could feel the blood getting cold and stiffening.

Hearing the snake-man's words, Wang Qi rushed over worriedly. Looking at Gu Liyan's still bleeding left arm, she said with a guilty expression, "Mo Li, are you alright? I'm so sorry, if I hadn't run away, you wouldn't have gotten hurt..."

Gu Liyan frowned, shoved Wang Qi, and said coldly, "Stand at the back!"

Wang Qi dared not disobey and timidly stepped back.

Gu Liyan met the snake-man's gaze with a cold expression. "If you want to kill me, what are you waiting for? Are you snake-men all cowards?"

The snake-man captain sneered, "Sisi~ We won't act rashly until we're absolutely certain we can kill you. But don't worry, once we know your whereabouts, we'll keep a close eye on you! Then… Sisi~"

After the snake-man captain finished speaking, he and the snake-man beside him turned and slipped away.

Watching them leave, Gu Liyan did not chase after them. He let his arm hang limply, his left arm completely numb.

He turned to look at Wang Qi, whose eyes were wet with tears, and sighed, "Let's go back to the village first."

Wang Qi followed behind Gu Liyan, her head down, looking like she had done something wrong.

Back in the village, Zhang Wei and the others saw Gu Liyan return injured and anxiously asked, "What happened?"

"Brother, who hurt this?" The youngest sister's voice was shrill and piercing as she pointed at Wang Qi behind her and cursed, "You jinx, did you hurt Mo Li?!"

“I…” Wang Qi lowered her head and dared not speak.

"It has nothing to do with her. I just ran into the two snake people who had escaped earlier on the way and accidentally injured them," Gu Liyan said calmly.

Zhang Wei asked anxiously, "What about those two snake people? Have they been dealt with?"

Gu Liyan shook his head. "They got away."

Wang Wen immediately panicked, "That's terrible! If they find out there are still people in the village, the previous snake-man invasion team will come back!"

"Huh? Then, what do we do?" Huo Tong asked in a panic. "Should we run away?"

"Escape? Are you out of your mind? There are a bunch of old, weak, sick and disabled people in the village, how are you going to escape?" Auntie said irritably.

“Brother Meng hasn’t returned yet. Let’s wait for him to come back and ask for his opinion,” Gu Liyan said.

"Old Meng heard you went to town, so he went to look for you. Why hasn't he come back yet?" the young woman muttered.

"What? When did Brother Meng go?" Gu Liyan asked anxiously.

“This morning, when Huo Tong said you weren’t here, he went to look for you by himself,” Yao Niang said.

"Oh no!" Gu Liyan frowned, looking worried. "If we come back now, we'll definitely run into those two snake people on the way. We have to go and support Brother Meng!"

Gu Liyan suddenly stood up, but felt a wave of dizziness and swayed. Zhang Wei, who was standing nearby, reacted quickly and helped Gu Liyan up. "Brother Mo, are you alright?"

Gu Liyan shook his head. "I'm fine..."

Wang Wen suggested, "Brother Mo, don't worry, you should be fine. You should treat your wound first. I'll send a few brothers to check on you."

Gu Liyan nodded. "That's the only way."

Gu Liyan clenched her fists inwardly: I didn't expect my body to be so fragile here. I'm so weak just from losing a little blood. Now Brother Meng's life or death is unknown, and I'm powerless to help. I'm so useless!
