"So what if we're exposed? Look, his speed isn't slowing down at all; in fact, it's getting faster and faster. We can't catch up with him anymore."
"Then what's the point of chasing after him?!" The werewolf stopped in his tracks.
Gu Liyan heard the werewolf's footsteps getting farther and farther away, so he slowed down and looked back to see that the werewolf had already retreated.
Gu Liyan smiled smugly, "Trying to outrun me? You're too green!"
Wang Qi felt dizzy, and she could still hear the wind howling in her ears. She stammered, "You, you're amazing! You actually managed to shake off the werewolf."
Gu Liyan put Wang Qi down and said irritably, "It's all because you're unable to move around easily. I was originally planning to leave them all behind!"
Wang Qi pouted and said with a wronged expression, "I didn't want to fall either..."
"Alright, enough talk, let's head back." Gu Liyan said, and started to return the way they came.
"Huh? What are we going back for?" Wang Qi asked blankly.
"I just went astray. If we had gone any further, we would have reached the cliff," Gu Liyan said without batting an eye.
Wang Qi stared speechlessly at Gu Liyan's retreating figure, muttering to herself, "He's handsome and agile, but unfortunately, he has no sense of direction!"
However, seeing Gu Liyan's stunning profile, the final conclusion is, "But it doesn't matter, being handsome is enough!"
Gu Liyan saw Wang Qi standing there grinning foolishly at him and said irritably, "Idiot, get out of here!"
"Oh!" Wang Qi chased after him with a grin.
Seeing that Gu Liyan's expression remained unchanged and showed no signs of fatigue, she asked curiously, "Mo Li, you've been running for so long, aren't you tired? Also, how come you didn't bump into any trees while running so fast in this dark forest?"
Gu Liyan's face darkened at the question, thinking to himself, "This girl isn't completely stupid after all. I can't say, I absolutely can't say..."
Seeing that Gu Liyan didn't speak, Wang Qi was really curious and tugged at Gu Liyan's arm, pleading, "Tell me, please?"
"Hiss..." Gu Liyan winced in pain.
Startled, Wang Qi quickly released Gu Liyan's arm, then suddenly remembered that Gu Liyan's arm was injured while saving her...
Gu Liyan clutched his shoulder and glared at Wang Qi, "You don't know your own strength!"
Wang Qi lowered her head and weakly apologized, "I'm sorry..."
Gu Liyan snorted and walked ahead, while Wang Qi followed with a pout and a limp.
After walking for a long time, Wang Qi couldn't help but say, "I...can we take a break? I'm so tired..."
Gu Liyan walked forward without looking back.
Wang Qi's legs were in terrible pain, and tears streamed down her face as she choked out, "My legs hurt so much, can you let me rest for a bit..."
Gu Liyan ignored him and continued walking forward.
As Wang Qi watched Gu Liyan get further and further away from her, she began to sob, "Wait for me, please... Waaah..."
Gu Liyan stopped, turned to look at Wang Qi, and said coldly, "You have to walk your own path. If you don't walk now, are you waiting for the werewolves to chase you?"
Wang Qi couldn't help but burst into tears, "Waaaaah... I can't walk anymore, my legs hurt, waaaaah..."
Gu Liyan frowned when he saw the blood seeping from her leg, pursed his lips and said, "Then come here, I'll carry you."
Upon hearing Gu Liyan's words, Wang Qi stopped crying, limped over to Gu Liyan, and chuckled foolishly, "Then I'll trouble you."
Gu Liyan rolled her eyes. This girl wasn't crying at all!
Crouching down, Gu Liyan said impatiently, "Get on!"
Wang Qi smiled sweetly and jumped onto Gu Liyan's back.
Gu Liyan rolled her eyes: This girl is perfectly fine!
However, in order to reach the royal city as soon as possible and escape the werewolves' pursuit, it's best to keep moving quickly.
At daybreak, Gu Liyan carried Wang Qi to the city walls.
"Hey, you're from Wangcheng, right? Where do you live? I'll take you home." Gu Liyan turned around and glanced at Wang Qi. He didn't expect that the girl had actually fallen asleep on his back and was even drooling.
Gu Liyan was so angry he almost threw her out, but he held back in the end. Once he got her home, he could escape his misery and wouldn't have to worry about her anymore!
Gu Liyan entered the royal city. Although he didn't know where Wang Qi's family lived, he knew that her family was a wealthy one, so he should be able to find out by asking!
However, after entering the city, Gu Liyan discovered that it was not as prosperous as she had imagined; at the very least, there weren't many people.
"Is it because it's morning? Why is there no one here?" Gu Liyan frowned and walked inside.
Just as he walked down the street, he suddenly sensed something was wrong. Before he could react, a number of armed men emerged from the surrounding shops, rooftops, and other places where he could hide on the street, all pointing their guns at Gu Liyan.
Gu Liyan dared not move an inch, for fear that one of their guns might accidentally discharge.
"Who are you? Where are you from? What are you doing in the royal city?" a voice came from the crowd.
"I came from Ancun. I was chased by werewolves on the way here and came to seek refuge!" Gu Liyan said loudly.
"Nonsense! Everyone in An Village is dead! There's no way anyone could have survived! Besides, there aren't any werewolves in our territory!" the man said. "Are you a spy for the snake people?"
Gu Liyan was speechless. These days, nobody believes the truth?!
Just as Gu Liyan was about to explain, someone in the crowd suddenly exclaimed, "Young Miss! This guy is carrying the Young Miss!"
Everyone looked at Wang Qi.
"It really is the young lady!"
"Quickly inform the patriarch!"
"Wait, look! The young lady is injured!"
Seeing the blood flowing from Wang Qi's leg, the crowd raised their guns, pointed them at Gu Liyan, and questioned him:
