Butler Lin's room was in the darkest corner of the courtyard, looking eerie, scary, and out of place.
This was Liu Changxian's first time here. The door wasn't locked, and it creaked open with a jarring sound.
Liu Changxian swallowed hard, mustered her courage, and went inside...
The room contained a table, chairs, benches, and a bed—a very simple arrangement, with everything laid out at a glance.
However, Liu Changxian felt that such a large space did not match the outside at all.
"This space is strange, the area is not right. Could it be that Butler Lin is really suspicious? Is there a secret room here?" Thinking of this, Liu Changxian looked around but found nothing unusual.
Just as she was about to leave, she accidentally knocked over a chair, making a sound.
Hearing the chair fall over inside the secret room, Gu Liyan's previously lifeless eyes lit up. "Xian'er..."
Gu Liyan laboriously climbed towards the wall to the side; Liu Changxian must be on the other side of that wall—
Seeing that Gu Liyan was about to escape again, the swarm of snakes chased after her and began to bite her body.
"Ah..." Gu Liyan's face twitched in pain as he used all his strength to swatt the onrushing snakes away. "Get away..."
She was on the other side of the wall, and no one could stop him from meeting her!
"Xian'er, I'm here..." Gu Liyan said weakly, his voice hoarse.
On the other side of the wall, as Liu Changxian was about to leave after helping the chair up, she suddenly heard a faint "thump thump thump" sound coming from the wall.
Curious, she walked over and pressed herself against the wall. The "thump-thump" sound came again. Liu Changxian asked anxiously, "Is someone on the other side of the wall? Could it be... Mo Li?"
Hearing Liu Changxian's voice, Gu Liyan was moved to tears. She had come to find him; she still believed in him! That's wonderful…
Just as Gu Liyan was about to knock on the wall, the swarm of snakes behind him pounced again, biting him mercilessly. Gu Liyan groaned and collapsed weakly to the ground, cursing, "Beasts, let go of me!"
There was silence on the other side of the wall. Liu Changxian asked anxiously, "Mo Li, is that you? Answer me!"
Gu Liyan heard Liu Changxian's voice and was about to speak when suddenly a snake wrapped around his neck from behind, choking him before he could utter a word.
Gu Liyan struggled weakly, her breathing growing ever weaker...
Liu Changxian examined the wall. "If it really is a secret room, there must be a mechanism. Where is it?"
Liu Changxian searched around and finally his gaze fell on a corner where there was a drop of blood on the ground. Looking at the wall above, he saw a small, protruding stone. He reached down and pressed it down, and a tear appeared in the wall. Liu Changxian was shocked and hurriedly ran inside.
In the pitch-black chamber, faint green light emanated from both sides, and the air was filled with the smell of decay and the pungent stench of blood.
Walking under the dim green light, Liu Changxian felt colder and colder. She saw the blood on the ground extending into the dark depths, like a haunted house.
Halfway there, a snake suddenly emerged from the shadows. Liu Changxian was startled, but reacted quickly, taking out the scalpel he carried with him and throwing it swiftly and accurately, piercing the snake's body and cutting it in two.
"There are snakes in this secret room!" Liu Changxian was increasingly alarmed.
Thinking back to what Gu Liyan had said before, that Butler Lin was the real snake person, she realized that she had really misunderstood Gu Liyan. He was the victim, and Butler Lin was the culprit!
Liu Changxian knew that Gu Liyan hadn't run away at all, but had been hidden by Steward Lin, so she hurriedly called out, "Mo Li! Where are you? Answer me!"
Upon hearing Liu Changxian's voice, Gu Liyan's eyes lit up with hope. Unable to speak, he picked up a stone from the ground and threw it forcefully.
With a "thud," Liu Changxian ran over upon hearing the sound, anxiously calling out, "Mo Li? Are you over here?"
As Gu Liyan watched Liu Changxian's figure draw closer, a smile appeared on his lips, but then he suddenly felt short of breath and his vision went black...
Liu Changxian also saw Gu Liyan in the corner and, seeing him surrounded by snakes, hurriedly said, "Mo Li! Wait for me, I'll save you right away!"
"Damn beasts! Get away from me!" Liu Changxian, her eyes red, kept shooing away the surrounding snakes. She had been bitten on the leg several times by snakes, and the pain brought tears to her eyes.
However, seeing that Gu Liyan had collapsed to the ground, unconscious, Liu Changxian disregarded the pain and cleared a path to reach Gu Liyan. There, he found the blue snake tightly coiled around Gu Liyan's neck and killed it to free Gu Liyan.
After the blue snake died, the other snakes fled in panic.
Liu Changxian didn't have time to chase after them. She helped Gu Liyan up and held her in her arms, anxiously saying, "Mo Li! Wake up! I've come to save you! It's all my fault. If I hadn't trusted Butler Lin, you wouldn't have been captured here..."
Old Gu Liyan remained motionless. Liu Changxian reached out to check Gu Liyan's breath and found that he had stopped breathing. Her hands trembled with fear, and she hurriedly said, "Mo Li, you can't die! You can't die! Wake up!"
Gu Liyan's body went limp in Liu Changxian's arms, unresponsive. Liu Changxian calmed down, laid Gu Liyan flat, tilted her head back, and began to perform artificial respiration.
Seeing that Gu Liyan remained motionless after several attempts, Liu Changxian collapsed into despair, tears streaming down her face. "Mo Li, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, sob sob, I'm so late, sob sob, I'm so sorry..."
Just then, Gu Liyan's hand twitched slightly, and he slowly opened his eyes. Looking at Liu Changxian beside him, who was constantly wiping away tears and saying sorry to him, he smiled weakly and said, "Then tell me, how are you going to make it up to me..."
