Gu Liyan stared intently at the newspaper in his hand, while Hua Baixian glanced at her phone, secretly watching Gu Liyan. She noticed that today's headlines were all about him.
Gu Liyan noticed Hua Baixian's gaze and said, "Don't be surprised. It's not just today; my photo has been in the headlines for the past fifteen years as well as yesterday and the day before."
Hua Baixian looked at Gu Liyan in disbelief. "It can't be that exaggerated, can it?"
Gu Liyan put down his newspaper and looked at Hua Baixian. "Tell me, do you never read the news? Or do you never know my identity?"
Hua Baixian stuck out her tongue, reflecting on her twenty-five years of experience, struggling in the lower echelons of society. Only after all this time did she realize that she had always considered the affairs of this circle to be dark, and therefore had never cared about them.
Hua Baixian put away her phone and changed the subject, asking, "I heard from that lady that you debuted when you were ten years old. Can you tell me about it?"
Gu Liyan's face darkened, as if he didn't want to recall the past.
Upon seeing this, Hua Baixian hurriedly said, "If you don't want to talk about it, you don't have to!"
Gu Liyan glanced at Hua Baixian and said softly, "I spent my childhood in the hospital from birth. I was very weak and had to be fed by nurses every day. When I was ten years old, Mo Chen somehow got hold of a prescription, and after taking it, my health gradually improved."
"I remember meeting a girl one day that year. She was very enthusiastic. She told me that there were many beautiful landscapes in the outside world, and many children her age who could play hide-and-seek together..." Hua Baixian looked at Gu Liyan and felt a pang of sadness. The Gu Liyan she knew was not as glamorous as he appeared on the surface. His childhood was a monotonous mix of white and darkness.
