Fresh cabbage is today's meal. This is the first time Gu Liyan has gone out to buy groceries since she came out with Hua Baixian.
"It's rare to see you out grocery shopping, Xiao Mo."
"Hello, Grandma Liu," Gu Liyan greeted her with a smile.
"Xiao Mo, off to buy groceries?"
"Yes, Uncle Zhang."
The neighbors greeted Gu Liyan one by one. Most of the people here were elderly, living a very traditional life without television or mobile phones.
"Little Mo, I've finally caught you today! Come on, play a game with us." Several old men playing chess nearby saw Gu Liyan and eagerly spoke up.
"Grandpa Huang, I'll play with you guys for a bit. I'll go back and cook now," Gu Liyan said with a smile.
"Okay, okay, go and come back quickly!"
As Gu Liyan entered his home, Hua Baixian was already waiting at the door. She couldn't help but smile and say, "You're always the center of attention wherever you go. You've already become one of the neighbors in just a few days."
Gu Liyan scratched his head. "I didn't expect everyone to be so enthusiastic."
"Alright, give me the vegetables." Hua Baixian smiled and took them into the kitchen to cook.
Gu Liyan looked at Hua Baixian and said, "Xiao Bai, I plan to go out and look for a job tomorrow."
Hua Baixian paused, then looked at Gu Liyan, "I can work on my own, why are you still thinking about..."
"Xiao Bai, food, clothing, and daily necessities will be a problem in the future. I can't let you struggle alone." Gu Liyan gently took Hua Baixian's hand. "You should know that I'm the one who's going to take care of you."
“But you’re not feeling well right now. What if something happens to you…” Hua Baixian said worriedly.
"Don't worry, I know my body, I won't look for a job that's too strenuous," Gu Liyan quickly said.
"Alright then... I see." Hua Baixian finally nodded.
The next morning, before Hua Baixian had even woken up, Gu Liyan secretly went out and walked for half an hour to the outskirts of the city. Film crews often rehearsed there, so Gu Liyan decided to try his luck.
He was lucky; there just happened to be a scene being filmed there. Gu Liyan noticed that the main actors were all young, and some of them even had awkward delivery of their lines. It seemed that even with good acting skills, dubbing would be necessary in post-production.
"Hey, what are you doing here? How did you get in?" A voice suddenly rang out from behind.
Gu Liyan turned his head and was slightly taken aback. He recognized the person; it was Meng Zhong.
Seeing him in a daze, Meng Zhong said impatiently, "Irrelevant personnel, get out of here!"
Gu Liyan immediately said, "I'm here as an extra."
"Extras? What are you standing here like idiots? Don't you know filming is about to start? Hurry up and change your clothes," Meng Zhong said, pointing to the prop truck next to him.
"Okay." Gu Liyan hurriedly slipped into the prop truck. Fortunately, there was no one inside. He changed into a bandit costume and prepared to go out. Thinking that his identity would be exposed, he found some makeup props to draw a scar on himself. He also smeared some dirt on the ground and wiped it on his face. Looking at him now, he really did look like a bandit.
After going outside, they saw Meng Zhong chatting with the director, while Gu Liyan stood silently behind him.
"Go out and act tough, then let them hit you. You know exactly what to do."
“Okay, I understand.” Meng Zhong nodded.
Without further ado, the director shouted "Get ready to start filming!" Gu Liyan noticed the director's furrowed brows; he looked unhappy. His gaze then fell upon the lead actor, who adopted an arrogant attitude, not even glancing at the script.
"You did your own makeup, kid?" Meng Zhong asked, noticing the makeup on Gu Liyan's face.
"Oh, right." Gu Liyan scratched his head and said, "I learned a little bit before."
“You’re quite talented. You’ll come with me to rob them. Be fierce. Don’t dodge when they hit you. Just fall down when they hit you. Die nicely, understand?” Meng Zhong said.
Gu Liyan nodded. "Okay."
Zhang Tianyu is Zhang Tianqi's cousin. Relying on Zhang Tianqi's fame, he's now a pampered young master on set who can't be hit or scolded.
However, he was still unhappy about that. The director was too strict and didn't seem to respect him at all, not calling "cut" for scenes in less than ten takes. Zhang Tianyu was determined to make the director say something good about him today!
With everything ready, Zhang Tianyu immediately entered the scene. Seeing that the time was right, Meng Zhong said "Go on stage" to Gu Liyan and took the lead. Gu Liyan followed closely behind without further ado.
"Hey, I planted this tree, I opened this road, if you want to pass, leave your toll!" Meng Zhong's clumsy lines left Gu Liyan speechless.
Zhang Tianyu looked at the two of them with disdain and sneered, "Whoever's blocking my way, get lost!"
Gu Liyan was speechless again. This child must have failed the oral exam!
Meng Zhong flew into a rage and cursed, "Looks like you don't know how powerful I am until I show you!"
Meng Zhong drew his sword and charged forward. Gu Liyan wasn't in a hurry; the camera was focused on the two of them. Meng Zhong's seemingly fierce slash actually didn't use much force, but Zhang Tianyu was intimidated by Meng Zhong's imposing presence and instinctively closed his eyes.
Seeing this, Meng Zhong didn't have time to stop and was about to stab Zhang Tianyu in the eye when Gu Liyan rushed forward with lightning speed and blocked it with her prop knife, thus averting danger.
Meng Zhong breathed a sigh of relief, and everyone else did too.
Zhang Tianyu was terrified, but then he felt like he was being stared at by countless eyes. He immediately threw down his prop sword and angrily shouted, "What are you acting? Are you trying to kill me?!"
Meng Zhong frowned but said nothing.
Feeling humiliated, Zhang Tianyu angrily declared, "I'm not acting anymore!"
