Chapter 96

"What?" Mo Li asked, puzzled. "What arsonist?"

"Last night, the grain supplies were destroyed. Who else but you would do such a thing? I never expected you to be this kind of person. The general was right; appearances can be deceiving!" Cheng Jin said angrily.

Mo Li frowned. "Are you misunderstanding something? I wasn't even in the camp yesterday, so how could I have burned your supplies?"

Cheng Jin was taken aback. "Ah? Is that so...?"

Mo Li frowned. "Think about it. I'm injured and have difficulty moving around. I can't possibly avoid your patrols, so it's impossible for it to be me."

Cheng Jin scratched his head, somewhat puzzled. "But, if it's not you, then who is it?"

"If I'm not mistaken, they should be barbarian spies. Burning the grain rations is just the first step; there's probably more to their plans..."

Before Mo Li could finish speaking, a horn sounded outside:

"Oh no! The barbarians are coming!"

"Gather together quickly!"

...

Hua Mulan stepped out of the tent, clad in armor, and solemnly declared, "Everyone, prepare for battle!"

Cheng Jin walked out of the tent, looked at the chaotic situation, and hurriedly turned to Mo Li and said, "I'm going to protect the general. You stay here and don't come out."

Watching Cheng Jin leave in a hurry, Mo Li blinked, grabbed a blunt knife from the room, and quietly followed him.

Hua Mulan frowned slightly as she looked at the tense soldiers. The previous victories had made the soldiers arrogant, and the destruction of their supplies last night had greatly dampened their morale. With the barbarians launching another large-scale attack today, she feared that this battle would result in heavy losses.

Mulan gripped her spear tightly, her face grave.

"General." Cheng Jin ran over and whispered in Hua Mulan's ear, "Mo Li wasn't in the camp last night, it shouldn't be him."

Hua Mulan glanced at Cheng Jin, then ignored Mo Li and asked, "Have you seen the strategist?"

Cheng Jinyao shook her head. "I haven't seen him for a day."

Hua Mulan narrowed her eyes slightly and did not continue the topic. Instead, she stood on the stands and spoke loudly, "The treacherous barbarians want to seize our homeland, and our food supplies were burned by them last night. Now, only a desperate battle can protect our homeland! Do you dare to join me in the battle and drive out the southern barbarians?"

"Fight to the death and drive out the southern barbarians!"

"Fight to the death and drive out the southern barbarians!"

...

Standing outside the tent, Mo Li listened to the boosted morale and couldn't help but smile. "I wonder what kind of person this general is, that he has such courage and wisdom. If he is a good person, I can help him drive out the southern barbarians and hide my identity at the same time."

Inspired by Mulan, the morale of the soldiers soared, and they marched towards the battlefield in a grand procession. Mo Li watched from afar, and suddenly his gaze fell on Mulan, who was wearing a red battle robe at the head of the group, and he couldn't help but shudder.

Her captivating eyes revealed an indomitable stubbornness, and her delicate face concealed an inexplicable sadness. No matter how you looked at her, she was so familiar. Even though she was wearing armor and dressed as a man, she could not deceive the person who was truly watching her.

Mo Li couldn't help but tremble all over, "Xiao Bai! She is Xiao Bai!"

Mulan, walking at the head of the army, was completely unaware that someone was silently watching her from behind—

A massive army pressed in, and the two armies faced each other, their ranks densely packed with people.

Mulan, however, remained unusually calm as she gazed at the enemy; her face showed no fear whatsoever.

At this moment, the enemy's leading general stepped forward and shouted, "I am Miyano Kawashawa, the number one warrior of the Southern Barbarians! Cowards of the Central Plains! Who dares to fight me?"

Hearing Miyano Kawasawa's boast, Mulan narrowed her eyes and looked at the man. His burly figure was incredibly strong, and the warhorse he rode was a top-quality steed. In a one-on-one fight with him, she would definitely not have the upper hand.

But at this moment, she could not hesitate, much less be cowardly! As the commander of an army, Mulan had to stand up and fight him!

Just as Mulan was about to step forward, a voice suddenly approached from not far away: "As far as I know, the barbarian region is quite large. There are ninja masters above and the Onmyoji lineage below. No matter what, it's probably not your place as the number one warrior, you brat."

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw a white-clad man holding a jade flute standing to the side, his handsome and refined face like that of a celestial being.

"Who are you? How do you know about my barbarian tribe?" Miyano Kawashawa squinted at Mo Li.

Mo Li smiled slightly, walked to the center of the battle between the two armies, and said without fear, "Central Plains people!"

Hua Mulan frowned slightly as she looked at Mo Li, and began to have some doubts.

Mo Li looked at Gong Yechuanze and said, "Since you say you are the number one warrior of the barbarians, how about letting me, the number one newbie of the Central Plains, spar with you?"

"What is a newbie?" Miyano Kawasawa asked curiously.

"A newbie is like a bird that doesn't eat meat, so weak that you'd want to ignore it!" Mo Li said with a smile. "Why don't you use your barbarian tribe's strongest to deal with my Central Plains' weakest? Don't cry if you lose!"

"You arrogant brat, take this!" Miyano Kawashawa's face turned red with anger. He grabbed his weapon and charged straight at Mo Li on horseback.

Mo Li smiled slightly and barely dodged the attack.

Seeing this, Mulan couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat for Mo Li. Fortunately, he was agile, otherwise he would have been crippled by Miyano Kawazawa's axe!

Mo Li scoffed, "Ha, you have the nerve to attack me, a man without a mount or weapons, just by yourself and your horse? What a fine number one warrior you are!"

"Damn it!" Miyano Kawasawa roared angrily, "Then don't blame me for fighting you hand-to-hand!"

With that, Miyano Kawasawa dismounted and threw away his weapon. At that moment, the enemy let out a series of roars. Seeing this, Mulan couldn't help but frown. "This guy is really reckless. Barbarians are strong, and there's no way he can win in a one-on-one hand-to-hand combat. He still went and provoked them. How foolish!"
