On the Mobei grassland, the sound of horse hooves could be heard as the two armies chased each other from the front and back, with the distance between them gradually widening.
The Tatar Khan led the rest of his men and horses, relying on their familiarity with the terrain, and rushed towards the Onon River, abandoning their baggage along the way. It was still early winter, and the ice on the river had not yet completely solidified. After he led his men and horses across the river on the thickest part of the ice, he ordered the ice to be smashed before continuing to rush forward.
He Shan led his men to catch up, but seeing the cracked ice surface, he did not dare to risk crossing the river. But if he took a detour, he would probably not be able to catch up.
He stayed there for a while, seemingly hesitant.
Only when he saw the Tatar Khan leading his troops and horses to rush towards the hinterland of Mobei without looking back did he order a retreat, and turned back to intercept Ahalu and others who had not yet had time to retreat.
The Tatar Khan led his troops to gallop for more than twenty miles, but seeing no movement behind him, he ordered them to rest on the spot.
A moment later, the scouts who stayed behind caught up and reported: "The Great Yan army did not continue the pursuit."
The Tatar Khan heaved a sigh of relief. The Great Yan was well prepared and had a heavy force. If they faced them head-on, they would surely suffer. It would be better to divide their forces and avoid the battle, and then wait for an opportunity to resist. After a while, winter came. The soldiers and horses of the Great Yan could not stand the severe cold, and that would be their chance to counterattack.
After pondering for a moment, the Tatar Khan ordered the entire army to rest for half an hour, and then detour back to the Onon River to look for an opportunity to meet Ahalu and others.
But before they could finish resting, the ground shook violently and there was a faint sound of horse hooves, like thunder rolling in from afar.
The spy listened closely and said in surprise, "They are coming from the north. There are at least tens of thousands of them."
It stands to reason that if the Yan army had crossed the river by detouring, they should not have caught up so quickly. But at this time, it was no longer possible to care how the enemy caught up, and the Tatar Khan could only immediately order the entire army to retreat.
However, he was too careless after getting rid of the pursuers, and was a step too slow in escaping now. Just as he fled a mile to the east, he ran into the Oirat army that had come to encircle and suppress him.
In order to cooperate with Dayan's encirclement and suppression plan, Muduo led nearly 20,000 troops to fight this time.
War horses wearing heavy armor came galloping from afar, forming a huge crowd. The Tatar warriors riding on horses brandished their knives, shouting loudly and with great momentum.
Because of the division of troops, the Tatar Khan had less than 10,000 soldiers behind him. Seeing that they were outnumbered, they could only flee in other directions immediately. But by then Xue Shu had already commanded the soldiers of Dayan to encircle them from both wings.
Surrounded by enemies on three sides, the only remaining route of retreat was the Onon River behind them.
There is a wolf in front and a tiger behind, and it is difficult to advance or retreat.
The Tatar Khan had spent half his life fighting on horseback, and was a great hero on the grasslands. He had never been in such a desperate situation. He looked around, no longer hesitated, and raised his arm and shouted, "Kill them!"
On the snow-covered grassland, three groups of people fought in one place.
The Tatar Khan was very brave and did not lose his courage even in desperate situations. He saw Wuzhu among the Oirat army and immediately concentrated his forces to attack Wuzhu.
Wuzhu did not have much affection for her father, but she knew very well how brave her father was and did not want to suffer casualties in a fight against him, so she immediately tried to transfer the pressure to the Dayan Army.
The Tatar Khan saw her avoiding him, and his eyes became even brighter. He rushed forward and shouted in Tatar: "Wuzhu, if I die here, do you think the Yan people will let you go? The Tatars and the Oirat are like lips and teeth!"
Great Yan used various means to check and balance the Oirat and Tatars, so that they would not unite against Yan. But in other words, if the Oirat and Tatars fought, both would suffer losses, which would only give Great Yan a chance to take advantage of the situation.
At present, Wala was weak and could not defeat the Tatars, so they could only seek help from Dayan. But they were also worried that once they helped Dayan swallow up the Tatars, they would be the ones to be attacked without allies to resist Dayan.
The Tatar Khan's words touched upon the hidden concerns in their hearts.
Wuzhu and Muduo exchanged glances quickly, and without much hesitation, they ordered a change in formation, revealing their weakness.
Upon seeing this, the Tatar Khan immediately led his troops to break out.
The soldiers of the Great Yan on both sides noticed the movement in the center and immediately tried to rush to help, but unexpectedly, the soldiers of the Oirat who had fought side by side with them before blocked them. Just as the Tatar Khan was about to lead his troops to break out, a black horse suddenly jumped up and rushed towards Muduo.
Recognizing the man on horseback, the soldiers of Dayan gave way one after another, while the soldiers of Oirat dared not openly stop him. While they were hesitating, Xue Shu found an opportunity to ride his horse in front of Muduo.
At this time, the Tatar Khan had already broken out with dozens of cavalry and fled towards the heart of Mobei.
Seeing Xue Shu coming with great momentum, Mu Duo was about to say something to whitewash himself, but he saw the black horse brushing past him. At the same time, he felt a sudden sharp pain in his arm. By the time he reacted, the Golden Crow Curved Blade in his hand had been snatched away.
Xue Shu rode his horse straight after him, holding his curved sword, and the distance between him and the Tatar Khan kept narrowing.
The guards around the Khan tried to block him, but Xue Shu suddenly threw the curved knife in his hand with all his strength.
The curved blade spun in the air, creating a buzzing sound.
The fleeing Tatar Khan only heard a cry of surprise from behind him. He held the reins tightly and turned his head to look, only to see a curved knife coming at him with the force of thunder.
The knife was too fast and too close, so he had no time to dodge and it stabbed right into his back.
The whistling sound of the wind faded away, the sound of heavy horse hooves and screams of people faded away, and the Tatar Khan's body was frozen at the moment he turned his head, and then he fell off his horse.
Xue Shu pulled the reins, turned around to look at the Yan soldiers who were chasing them, and ordered them to surround and kill the remaining Tatar soldiers.
The Khan is dead, and his subordinates are no longer able to resist.
In addition to the soldiers who died in the battle, 3,851 Tatar soldiers and more than 7,000 horses were captured. The body of the Tatar Khan was carried back on a horse. Muduo's curved knife was still deeply stuck in his back, with the tip of the blade protruding through his chest, which was enough to show the great strength of the person who threw the knife.
After ordering the soldiers to clear the battlefield, Xue Shu rode towards the grim-looking Muduo and Wuzhu, and asked in a high-pitched voice unique to eunuchs, "In an emergency, I have to borrow the curved sword of the Oirat king. I don't think the Oirat king would mind, right?"
Muduo prides himself on being brave, but when facing Xue Shu, he can't help but feel a sense of crisis as if he had encountered a ferocious beast.
The arm that was injured when Xue Shu tried to grab the knife just now still hurts a little.
The Khan was dead, so there was no point in saying anything more. He could only smile stiffly and say, "Of course I don't mind."
Xue Shu nodded, rode his horse forward a few steps, and said, "The troops of Dayan have not yet arrived. Please ask the King of Wala to wait for a while."
Muduo and Wuzhu didn't know who he was waiting for, but they didn't ask any more questions out of guilt.
When the bodies on the battlefield were almost cleared, the sound of hurried horse hooves was suddenly heard.
When the men and horses got closer, they realized that there were two groups of people riding horses towards them. The one running in front was the Tatar army, and the one chasing behind was the Great Yan army. The Great Yan army was in a well-organized formation, and it surrounded the Tatar army from the rear and on both wings, like a shepherd driving a flock of sheep, and drove the Tatar army, which was already in disarray, towards them.
"It's Big Brother's team." Wuzhu recognized the leader of the Tatar side.
The eldest son of the Tatar Khan was chased by He Shan all the way here. When he saw the army in front of him waiting in a serious battle array, his heart sank. When he saw the Tatar captives being guarded by the soldiers of Dayan, he felt even more uneasy.
Xue Shu sent a team of soldiers forward, and together with He Shan's troops, they quickly captured the fleeing team.
Chili, the eldest son of the Tatar Khan, was brought forward. He scanned the faces of the captives and recognized them as his father's followers.
His heart was pounding and his eyes kept searching for the figure of the Tatar Khan. Finally, when he saw a corpse on horseback, his gaze suddenly stopped, his eyes widened in disbelief and a look of horror appeared.
Xue Shu deliberately asked him to be more clear, stepped forward to take the curved sword that was still stuck in the Khan's back, and returned it to Muduo: "Don't drop the curved sword of the Wala king. I heard that this golden crow curved sword is a magic weapon passed down from generation to generation in the Wala royal family. The Wala kings of all generations held this sword to reap the lives of their enemies. It is the glory of the Wala tribe."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chili's hateful gaze fell on Muduo, and he said in a hateful voice: "You killed my father!" Then he saw Wuzhu standing with Muduo, and his hatred almost turned into substance and pierced through the two of them. He angrily scolded: "You whore who eats at home and steals outside!"
Muduo naturally didn't want to take the blame for no reason. But when he was about to speak, he saw Xue Shu looking at him with a smile, his right hand clasping the hilt of the knife at his waist.
He gritted his teeth and looked at Xue Shu.
Wuzhu knew that Xue Shu was not easy to deal with, so she pulled at his clothes and shook her head. Xue Shu was a cunning and treacherous man, and he was also good at fighting. Muduo was no match for him. It was not wise to fight him when he was at a disadvantage.
Regardless of whether they killed the Tatar Khan or not, they did cooperate with Dayan.
Wuzhu sneered at Chili and slapped him hard on the face with the whip: "My dear brother, you are worse than a whore like me now."
As soon as he finished speaking, he shook the whip, and the long whip made a sound of breaking through the air, and a bright red whip mark ran across Chi Li's cheek and neck.
Chi Li's resistance was futile and he could only insult Wu Zhu with the most vicious and filthy words.
But Wuzhu turned a deaf ear to it.
Xue Shu watched the whole scene in vain, then he said slowly: "The battlefield has been cleared, let's go and join the army, His Majesty has arrived in Mobei."
Muduo and Wuzhu naturally had no objection and immediately gave the order to mount their horses and set off.
But when they were about to set out, they found that the Yan army leading the way did not return to the Luqu River, but headed northwest.
Wuzhu and Muduo looked at each other and had a bad feeling in their hearts - that direction was where the Wala were.
The army had been marching for two days and had covered most of the distance. Seeing that they were getting closer and closer to the border of Wala, Wuzhu finally gave up the idea of taking chances and stepped forward to ask, "Master Xue, isn't His Majesty the Great Yan stationed on the other side of the Luqu River? Why are you going to Wala now?"
Xue Shu turned around and looked at her, rarely showing a sincere smile, but it fell into her dark eyes, and the smile became even more creepy: "Your Majesty has turned to Wala."
Wuzhu's heart trembled, and something was about to come out.
When they finally arrived at Wala, Muduo and Wuzhu looked at the garrisoned Dayan army, and their vague guesses in their hearts came true, and their faces turned livid.
They wanted to plot against Dayan to gain greater benefits, but they didn't expect that Dayan was also plotting against them and directly took advantage of them by cutting off their resources.
"What does Dayan mean?" Muduo asked with a green face.
Xue Shu turned around and glanced at him, his smile not reaching his eyes: "Wala was the first to break the promise, Dayan is just returning the favor."
They had expected that the Oirat and Dayan were not on the same page, so they did not expect them to contribute much when they were besieging the Tatars. They asked Muduo to bring out the elite of the tribe just to lure the tiger away from the mountain. In fact, after the northern expedition army arrived at Luqu River, Yin Chengyu only left a small part of the troops to defend the city, and secretly transferred most of the troops to attack the Oirat with light cavalry.
The Wala had already been badly damaged, and Muduo had taken away a large number of troops. The people who stayed behind had different ideas, so it was easy to defeat them.
As they were talking, they had already reached the main camp. Xue Shu dismounted and asked the soldiers guarding the camp, "Is Your Majesty in the tent?"
When he pronounced the word "Your Majesty", his voice was slightly low and gentle.
He has not seen His Majesty for three months.
"Your Majesty and Commander Yu are out on an inspection tour." The soldier just finished answering and pointed to the distance and said, "Your Majesty must be back."
Xue Shu turned around and saw two large red horses running towards him. On the leading horse was a man in silver armor, shining brightly.
When he got closer, Yin Chengyu pulled the reins and dismounted. He exchanged a deep look with Xue Shu before looking at Mu Duo and Wu Zhu who were in a stalemate.
"I just went on an inspection tour. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for a long time." Handing the whip to the soldier beside him, Yin Chengyu walked in front, as comfortable as the owner.
Xue Shu naturally followed behind him.
It makes the two original owners, Muduo and Wuzhu, seem like guests.
However, the situation was stronger than they were, so the two men had no choice but to dismount and follow him into the tent.
Yin Chengyu sat down in the main seat, Xue Shu stood behind him, and a soldier brought hot tea over.
Mu Duo could no longer bear it and finally asked in a cold voice, "Is this how His Majesty the Great Yan treats his allies?"
Yin Chengyu picked up the teacup and took a sip slowly. He did not answer immediately, but first told another story he encountered on the road: "When I led the troops to Wala, I happened to intercept a small group of Wala soldiers on the road. The leader said that he was following the order of the Wala king to set up an ambush at Luqu River."
"If I hadn't come to Wala, I would be at Luqu River right now." Yin Chengyu smiled. "But the general couldn't produce the token to prove it. I thought someone was deliberately destroying the alliance between Dayan and Wala, so I killed all the soldiers."
"What does the King of Wala think?"
Muduo's expression froze slightly, and his momentum was no longer as strong as before.
Seeing that he did not answer, Yin Chengyu continued, "Wuzhu sent a letter earlier, saying that the King of Oirat intended to hand over a letter of credence and submit to Great Yan. Even though there has been no progress in the negotiations over the past two or three months, I have already regarded the people of Oirat as the people of Great Yan. I think the King of Oirat feels the same way?"
There was a gentle smile in his eyes, but when Mu Duo looked into them, he felt only harsh threats.
For the first time, he felt uneasy in front of a monarch who looked even a little weak.
The atmosphere gradually became heavy.
Yin Chengyu, however, drank his tea calmly.
Muduo counted all the chips, showing a somewhat dejected look, and turned his head to look at Wuzhu, who shook her head at him.
They had no other choice but to surrender.
Muduo finally chose to return to Dayan.
The ceremony of Wala's surrender by submitting a letter of credence and the Tatar's surrender were both held on the same day, October 25th.
The Tatar Khan was killed, his second son was killed in battle, his eldest son and Ahalu were captured. In addition, there were 32 wives, concubines, children and other people that the Tatar Khan had abandoned when he fled. They were all captured by the soldiers of Dayan one after another.
There were still some remnants who were still resisting, but they were all wiped out by the Great Yan Army.
In this battle, the Yan State captured a total of 67,913 Tatar soldiers, both men and women, and obtained 113 imperial seals, books and plaques, one gold seal, three silver seals, 36,000 horses, 3,920 camels, 104,369 cattle and sheep, and 3,100 chariots...it was a very rich harvest.
Yin Chengyu killed Ahalu and saved the Tatar Khan's eldest son Chili.
On October 25th, a high platform was built on the grassland.
The soldiers and civilians of the Oirat and Tatar gathered under the high platform and witnessed with their own eyes their kings kneeling at the feet of the Emperor of Dayan to show their submission.
Yin Chengyu issued an edict to confer the titles of King Xianyi and King Shunde on Muduo and Chili.
After that, he would also set up the Mobei Dusi in the Mobei grassland and send heavy troops to garrison there. At the same time, he would gradually open up the channels inside and outside the Great Wall to promote trade with Mobei and strengthen control over Mobei.
Regardless of whether Muduo and Chili surrendered willingly today, Yin Chengyu would not give them a chance to make a comeback.
The imperial edict and the imperial book were prepared in advance, and Xue Shu brought them to the two of them on a tray. Muduo and Chili took them respectively, accepted the edict and expressed gratitude.
The official who was singing the ceremony saw this and sang loudly: "Bai——"
Under the platform, hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians knelt on the ground and bowed in unison.
On the high platform, all officials also knelt down and bowed.
Xue Shu stood beside Yin Chengyu and was about to bow down as well. But before he could bend his knees, Yin Chengyu lifted him up by his arm and stood shoulder to shoulder with him.
On the vast snowy plain, hundreds of thousands of people bowed together. Only the two of them stood tall, overlooking the vast snowy plain.
Yin Chengyu put his hands behind his back and looked into the distance, and asked him, "Did you do the same as today when you were on the northern expedition?"
Xue Shu thought for a moment and shook his head: "Without Your Majesty, the world has lost its flavor, and I feel lonely in this world."
In his previous life, he led his troops to conquer the northern tribes. Looking at the vast grasslands, he felt no excitement, only longing.
He carried out his last wish, but he would never know again, and would never see these vast rivers and mountains with him again.
He was left alone to keep the promise that was fading away, struggling and suffering.
The vast mountains and rivers have never been his ideal. All he wants is just one person.
It’s just that this person stood too high, so he could only travel thousands of mountains and climb continuously before he could stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
"What about now?" Yin Chengyu looked at him sideways, and held his hand under his wide sleeves, and the warm warmth in his palm also passed over.
Xue Shu tightened his fingers and stared at him deeply. There was only one person in his dark eyes: "Now I only regret that we loved each other for a lifetime, but life is too short."
I wish I could be entangled with you for eternity.
In the 14th year of Longfeng, there was a major epidemic in Yutai.
He was trapped in the mire, but he saw a god coming. The god looked sad, as beautiful as the moon, saving all the sufferings of sentient beings.
From then on, when he looked at the moon, he only saw himself.
