Chapter 13 Ways to Make Money

In the morning, Qin Ge got up early, prepared breakfast for Shengxia, ate a few bites himself, and went to the construction site.

The work from a few days ago has been completed, and a new construction site has started today. Thinking of Shengxia’s tuition, Qin Ge also has to think of a way to do it.

On the first day of work, foreman Zhao Wu set off a string of firecrackers.

Qin Ge and several other workers started working together, clearing away some unused items from the construction site. Shengxia was outside helping the cooking auntie wash the vegetables.

She looked at the door from time to time and heard a few cannon shots. It was not until noon that Shengxia saw a group of people coming out.

Foreman Zhao Wu's face didn't look good. The terrain of the construction site was not very good. The work of hammering steel bars was too dangerous and difficult to do.

After seven or eight days, not only was the foundation not built, but some people were even injured. Zhao Wu was so angry that he scolded the people working below.

"How are you doing your job? I've been working for several days and you haven't even laid a foundation for me. How am I going to explain this to Boss Xu?"

Zhao Wu's workers all called him Xiaolong. He was skinny and said dejectedly, "I didn't expect it to be like this. You agreed to this project when we first took it."

Zhao Wu was new to the business and didn't have many connections. He was so angry that he wanted to kick Xiaolong: "If I knew everything, why would I need to pay you?"

An old craftsman nearby came out to smooth things over. He pulled Zhao Wu aside and discussed, "Xiao Zhao, Boss Xu has already paid us half of our wages. If you're making such a fuss right now, I'm afraid people will lose confidence. Let's think of a solution."

"I'm being paid day by day, but I don't see any progress. How can I still trust him?"

The foundation is the first and most important step in building a house. Now, due to the terrain, even the foundation cannot be laid properly. Is labor free? Should we continue to try?

The old master continued, "The terrain is indeed not good. Let's keep trying. We can see if we can find a way to find an experienced master."

"You think it's easy to find a master? I've already made so many calls."

Zhao Wu wasn't stupid. He glanced at the old master and said, "Of course you want to continue. The money Boss Xu gives me is a share of the profits. If I don't finish the job, I won't get a penny. I still have to pay for labor, utilities, and so on. What I'm counting as your salary is your salary. If you delay for one more day, you'll get an extra day's pay."

"Zhao Wu, I'm doing this for your own good. How can you say that?"

The quarrel between the two people fell into Shengxia's ears. The progress of the past few days made everyone lose the mood to continue working. Some were playing cards, some were eating melon seeds, and Qin Ge was helping her wash vegetables.

"Is this construction site not okay? Is it a scam to deceive those rich fools?

Qin Ge thought for a moment and said, "It's not impossible."

Shengxia came closer when she heard it: "What did you see?"

"I just took a look. Although the terrain is not very good, we can build a 100-centimeter brick on the foundation of the raft, then fill the soil on the foundation of the raft and tamp it down. Then, we can make a dozen centimeters of cement hardening and that will be it."

"Really?"

Shengxia trusted Qin Ge 100% when it came to things on the construction site. Although he was young, on previous construction sites, the old people would always ask Qin Ge when they couldn't make up their minds.

"Then why don't you tell them? If you tell them, they'll give you a raise. You're definitely better than that guy called Xiaolong, right?

Shengxia thought for a moment and said, "No, he should pay both of our salaries."

She can't help for nothing these days.

Qin Ge was not as impulsive as Sheng Xia. He was observing: "Wait a little longer, it's not time yet."

"How long will we wait? What if they decide it's not worth it and really withdraw?"

By then, no matter how many methods Qin Ge came up with, once the water and electricity were cut off and the equipment was removed, they would be penniless and unable to do anything.

Qin Ge looked at Sheng Xia's anxious expression and wanted to laugh: "Why are you so anxious? Even if they want to withdraw, they have to ask the boss to do it. Do you think the approval process for a construction site is so easy?"

He looked at Zhao Wu and Xiao Long over there: "One of them gets dividends, and the other is settled on schedule. Even if I help them get it, I will still get their wages."

At most, you can give them some red envelopes when the construction period is over, but this also depends on whether the foreman and the boss are generous.

The rest didn't understand: "Aren't we just here to get paid?"

They work for others but don't get paid, so what else does Qin Ge want?

"We want two wages, but Zhao Wu may not give them to us."

Shengxia held her chin in her hand, worried, but it was obvious that Qin Ge had another plan: "Listen to me, we'll wait for the boss who can really make the decision to come."

When a person is unlucky, even drinking cold water will cause a toothache. Zhao Wu finally understood this. He hadn't been working for long when the mixer broke down, sending flying sand and gravel all over his face. Then the drill broke down.

A puff of white smoke came out, and the village electrician said that the electricity consumption on the construction site was too high and it burned out, and asked them to pay for the repair.

"Damn it, are we the only construction site in the whole city? What bad luck!"

No wonder Zhao Wu cursed. Not only had he not made any progress after working on it for several days, but so many things had also been broken.

Everyone who came to the construction site was covered in dust and dirt. Qin Ge poured two basins of cold water over him from head to toe in the shed, and only then did he look like a normal person. Zhao Wu waved at him and stuffed a red envelope into his pocket: "Drive to the village and ask if there's any free old craftsman. Ask him to come and help us take a look."

Qin Ge nodded and said he knew.

Zhao Wu let him go. He had been in contact with Qin Ge for almost a month since he started working at the construction site. He felt that this young man was quite reliable.
