The vendors on Changge Street had already set up their tents and stalls early in the morning, creating a continuous market along this old street. The Lantern Festival lasted for three days, and by the third day, it was mostly filled with locals from the Imperial City. The lanterns were taken down. Fortune tellers, fortune tellers, and storytellers had set up stalls on both sides of the Hulu Temple.
Jiu Ye clenched his fist tightly. Fu Tong'er's hand was soft and small in his palm. He didn't respond to Fu Tong'er's words. He only said, "There are many people here. Follow closely and don't get lost."
Fu Tong'er was slightly stunned, she was not a child.
The soldiers behind them followed less closely. Firstly, it was their master's order, and secondly, they didn't dare, fearing they might overhear something they shouldn't and anger the powerful Regent. The first two soldiers were carrying a number of newly bought fun items, all of which Fu Tong'er had chosen when she passed by the stall.
She had lived a life of luxury since she was a child, and as the legitimate daughter of the Fu family, she had seen countless good things, like the water in the sea. Today was the first time in her life that she visited a folk market, and she felt that there were so many interesting things in the folk market.
Compared with Jiu Ye's steady pace, Fu Tong'er hugged his arm, pressed her body close to him, but walked happily!
Seeing a hair accessories stall in front, he pointed and said, "Brother Lu Jin, go take a look at that..."
Jiu Ye glanced at the cheap hair accessories, stopped, and said, "Tong'er, if you want jewelry, I will order someone to make it for you."
"Hey, brother Lu Jin, go and take a look~"
As Fu Tong'er spoke, she still pulled Jiu Ye's arm and reluctantly dragged him to the front of the stall.
The shopkeeper, seeing the imposing presence of Master Jiu, knew he was a powerful nobleman. Then, looking at the incredibly young Fu Tong'er beside him, he immediately knew business was coming. He smiled and said, "My dear lady, the hairpins here are of novel styles, and there's only one of each. Hey, take your pick. If you like, take it away. Don't worry about seeing someone else wearing the same style."
Lu Zhenzhi glanced down, his eyes full of disdain. What kind of material were these jewels made of? How could they be worn on his woman's head? However, it was difficult to say anything, lest Fu Tong'er get angry and not let him touch them when she slept, so he said lightly: "If you like them, just wrap them up."
When the boss heard this, he was as happy as a rat and said, "Okay!"
Fu Tong'er patted Lu Zhenzhi's arm and said to the boss: "Don't listen to him, why do you need so many! I can just pick one."
The boss smiled and said, "This lady is obviously a natural beauty. What do you think of this auspicious dragon and phoenix hairpin?" He held up a hairpin.
Fu Tong'er took it. The whole hairpin was in the shape of a golden dragon, with a flying phoenix on top.
Lu Zhenzhi glanced over, frowned, and said coldly: "It doesn't look good."
Fu Tong'er curled her lips, put down the hairpin in her hand, and picked up another one on the stall...
Lu Zhenzhi, standing aside, crossed his arms and watched indifferently as Fu Tong'er lowered her head and carefully chose. This girl actually picked one with a dragon and a phoenix pattern just now. If the emperor saw it, he might think of Yan'er from many years ago and then have some inappropriate thoughts.
The boss took another hairpin and held it up, saying, "Young Madam, what do you think of this white phoenix pointing to the sky? This white phoenix is noble and cold, soaring towards the sun. It suits your temperament, sir, don't you think so?"
Fu Tong'er took it and held it up to the light. The transparent white phoenix spread its wings, ready to fly towards the rising sun at the end of the hairpin. It looked quite pleasing.
Then he turned his head and looked up at Lu Zhenzhi. Seeing that he looked down on everyone, he didn't express his opinion, but he didn't say anything bad either. He turned back to the boss and said, "Do you have a mirror?"
The boss smiled and said repeatedly "Yes, yes, yes", while hurriedly taking out an antique bronze mirror from under the stall and holding it up.
Fu Tong'er looked in the mirror at the custom-made blood-jade hairpin with beads on her head, raised her hand to take it off, and then inserted the white phoenix pointing to the sky. Three small step-shaking chains hung down along the white phoenix's tail, and the red of the rising sun at the end of the hairpin became the finishing touch.
"It's beautiful, Madam, let your master see it."
Fu Tong'er turned her head and looked up: "Brother Lu Jin~"
Lu Zhenzhi crossed his arms, looked down, and said "hmm" lightly.
Fu Tong'er smiled and turned to ask the boss: "How much?"
The boss smiled and said, "My dear madam, this White Phoenix Facing the Sky is my signature dish..."
"Stop, stop, stop. I just want to know how much it costs." Fu Tong'er didn't want to hear it.
"Two taels of silver." The boss said with a smile.
"Two taels?! You're trying to steal it!" Fu Tong'er took off the hairpin. "It's not easy for my man to make money!"
Lu Zhenzhi took out two taels of silver and placed them on the stall: "Wrap it up."
Fu Tong'er was stunned, and held the two taels of silver on the stall and said: "This is too expensive! How can it be worth two taels! It's not jadeite, nor is it jade."
"One or two taels, will you sell it?"
The boss looked at Fu Tong'er's hand holding the silver, then looked at the gentleman beside her. Seeing that he didn't say anything, his years of business experience made him understand that although this gentleman was not short of money, the young lady beside him still had the final say.
He hurriedly smiled and said, "My lord and madam, please at least let me earn a little, so I can add some change."
Fu Tong'er put down the hairpin, took Lu Zhenzhi's arm and left.
"Sell, sell," the boss groaned in his heart. This young lady looked noble and he thought she would be easy to rip off, but he didn't expect that she would be chopped in half!
Fu Tonger whispered: "Damn it, the bargaining price is still too low." Then, she pulled Lu Zhenzhi back to the stall.
Lu Zhenzhi: “…”
"Show me the auspicious dragon and phoenix you just saw."
Lu Zhenzhi said: "That's not good."
"That one looks good~ I like that one~"
"I don't like it." Lu Zhenzhi had already forgotten to refer to himself as "this king." He thought of Yan'er, who was burned to death by the emperor in her youth.
