Chapter 1: Living in the Tomb

Chapter 1: Living in the Tomb

Valley of the Kings, Egypt.

Gusts of strong wind swept up the dust, making it difficult for Nie Yao and his team, who were investigating the newly excavated ancient tomb, to open their eyes.

"Ivy, the wind and sand are too strong. I think we should pack up and go back first, and then continue the investigation after the wind and sand stop?" Steve, the young man next to Nie Yao, suggested to her while covering his nose.

"Okay, you pack your things..." Nie Yao looked at the sky. The sandstorm would not stop for a while, which would also affect their archaeological research work. She picked up the detector and other equipment on the ground and stuffed them into her bag.

"Ahhhhhhhh——" At this moment, Steve screamed loudly. Nie Yao, who was packing up the equipment, looked at him with amusement.

"Why are you yelling? Aren't you afraid of being choked by the wind and sand?" Nie Yao raised an eyebrow and looked over. Her usually timid junior jumped up and grabbed her sleeve, pointing at the ground not far away and said in panic, "There's...there's a dead body!"

"Is this the first time you see a dead body?" Nie Yao shook her head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. She looked in the direction of his finger and frowned slightly.

"We haven't even entered the tomb yet. The body can't be left outside like this..."

As Nie Yao spoke, she walked towards the direction where the body was buried. She saw a man in a suit with his eyes closed, pale face and pale lips, buried under a thin layer of sand.

"He's still breathing..." Nie Yao bent down to check his breathing and whispered, "He's not dead. It seems he's injured and unconscious!"

"So he's not dead! I was so scared!" Steve breathed a sigh of relief and cautiously walked over to check. Seeing that his clothes under his left abdomen were stained with blood, he was shocked: "He bled so much!"

"Quick, help him up and take him back to the nearby camp to stop the bleeding!"

Nie Yao picked up her backpack and, together with her junior Stephen, helped the injured man out of the Imperial Valley and headed straight for a nearby camp.

After Steve laid him flat on the bed and wiped his face with a towel, he couldn't help but sigh in a low voice: "When this man looks handsome, he's no less handsome than the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun..."

"What nonsense are you talking about? Bring me the disinfectant alcohol and tweezers!" Nie Yao glared at him.

When she lowered her head and picked up the disinfectant alcohol to wipe his wound, the man who had fainted moved slightly, and his closed eyes suddenly opened, looking at her sharply.

"Who are you?" The man held her wrist tightly, his voice low but powerful.

"The person who saved you..." Nie Yao didn't expect that this man was so strong even though he was injured. She couldn't help but chuckle and raised her eyebrows.

Seeing that he refused to let go, Nie Yao gently poked his wound. Seeing him gasp in pain, she explained jokingly, "Don't worry, we'll pick you up and we won't take your life..."

The man finally released his grip on her hand. Nie Yao cleaned his wound while saying to Steve beside her, "Quick, give me a dose of anesthetic..."

"Ivy, the anesthetic is out..." Steve shrugged and answered helplessly.

Nie Yao pondered for a moment, then lowered her head to look at the pale man. She could only sigh helplessly, "The anesthetic is gone. I'll have to trouble you to bear with it. This place is too far from the hospital, and I'm afraid it won't be in time to take you there..."

"Keep going!" the man urged in a low voice.

Nie Yao could only use tweezers to carefully remove the bullet fragments from the wound in his lower abdomen. Because there was no anesthetic to help, she could even feel his body tense as he tried to endure the pain.

Nie Yao couldn't help but feel a little nervous. She just lowered her head and looked into his deep eyes. In the end, she gritted her teeth and helped him disinfect, stop the bleeding and sew up the wound in one go.
