Chapter 1293 Reconciliation

Chapter 1293 Reconciliation

Nie Yao was inevitably a little surprised, but she didn't say much. She just smiled faintly, nodded at her, and continued grilling the wings.

Vanessa, who had helped, was not in a hurry to leave. Instead, she stood in front of the oven, seemingly unfazed by the smoke and fire. She whispered, "Thank you for what I did before..."

"Huh?" Nie Yao looked at her in confusion, not knowing why she suddenly thanked him.

"I know that something went wrong during that excavation. It was my fault. If you hadn't helped me intercede, I might have been expelled from the archaeological team!"

Vanessa laughed bitterly and said self-deprecatingly, "I never thought that after years of learning, I would make a mistake just because of a momentary impulse!"

Nie Yao suddenly realized, shook her head and smiled nonchalantly, "It's nothing. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. No one is perfect. As long as you learn from your mistakes and always remind yourself to be careful, it will be fine..."

Vanessa nodded silently in response, without saying anything else. Someone came over, smelling the aroma and asked Nie Yao with a smile, "Captain, is it ready? It smells so good..."

"Not so fast, but here's one that's just been grilled. Try it and see how salty it is!"

Nie Yao gave the visitor a roasted chicken wing.

The man quickly picked up the fork and started eating the chicken wings. He looked at himself in amazement as he ate and praised repeatedly, "It tastes so good, Captain! I didn't expect you're such a barbecue expert!"

"Of course not, my senior sister knows a lot of things!" Steve, who was standing aside, had already started playing rock-paper-scissors with others by picking up his beer. When he heard someone praising Nie Yao's cooking skills, he smiled and agreed.

Nie Yao shook her head in amusement and grilled another pair of chicken wings. Seeing Vanessa still standing in front of her, she handed the newly grilled pair to her and suggested with a smile, "Would you like to try some?"

Vanessa hesitated for a moment, but still took the chicken wings handed to her by Nie Yao, said thank you, took a bite, and her eyes lit up.

"It tastes good, right?" Nie Yao laughed when he saw her expression.

“Hmm…” Vanessa nodded, eating chicken wings with mixed feelings: “I didn’t expect your cooking skills to be so good. I underestimated you before!”

"That's nothing. When my adoptive father and I were out there, we would sometimes catch fish and hunt in the wild and then have a barbecue!"

Nie Yao shook her head and explained with a faint smile.

When Nie Yao mentioned her adoptive father, Vanessa knew she was talking about Professor Fred, a well-known figure in the archaeology field. She sighed softly and said, "You are very lucky!"

"What?" Nie Yao raised his head and looked at her, asking in confusion.

"You're lucky to have an adoptive father like Professor Fred..." Vanessa paused and added, "And a fiancé like Li Jinxing who fully supports your career!"

"Thank you, I think so too!" Nie Yao smiled faintly, nodded, and sighed softly: "Maybe it was because of family matters before that I was stranded outside, but who can say that this is not another kind of luck?"

Vanessa didn't hear her sigh, but just finished the pair of grilled wings in silence.

"Do you want more?" Nie Yao raised her eyebrows and asked with a smile, seeing that she seemed to be still hungry.

"No need..." Vanessa shook her head. She stood in front of her in silence for a moment, then slowly spoke, "Although I thank you for pleading for me, I still hope that we can compete fairly in future work. I know that your excavation this time has yielded very good results and unearthed an underground palace..."
