Chapter 27 Noise at Night
With Old Man Nie's instructions, the members of the Nie family tiptoed back to their rooms. When Nie Jinxi went upstairs, she couldn't help but glance at Nie Yao's closed door, and a hint of annoyance quickly appeared in her eyes.
When she arrived outside her room and just touched the door handle, one of her high heels fell off from the top of the door with a plop.
Nie Jinxi was startled and quickly took a step back. She looked up and found that the other high-heeled shoe was still hanging high above the door of her room. Her eyes widened in horror!
She picked up the high-heeled shoe that had fallen on the ground and her face changed instantly. There was no doubt that this broken pair of high-heeled shoes was the one that made Nie Yao look so embarrassed at the banquet!
Nie Jinxi was so angry that she was shaking, and for a moment she forgot to maintain her ladylike demeanor. Holding the high heels in her hand, she shouted loudly in the quiet old house: "Nie Yao, what do you mean by this? Why did you hang the shoes at my door?"
Because of Nie Jinxi's roar, the whole house could hear it clearly. Everyone in the Nie family who was originally preparing to go to bed could not help but open the bedroom door to see what was going on.
Lin Anqi was the first to react. When she opened the door, she saw this scene and couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Nie Jinxi roared angrily, and was mocked again by Lin Anqi. She became even more annoyed. She walked to Nie Yao's door angrily and banged on it loudly, saying, "Nie Yao, stop pretending to be asleep. Come out and give me an explanation today no matter what!"
However, there was no movement in Nie Yao's room, but the movement from Nie Jinxi's side startled Old Nie, who was originally planning to rest.
"Old Lu, go see what's going on?"
Butler Lu responded respectfully and went out to see Nie Jinxi banging on the door of the eldest lady Nie Yao's room. There was no response from Nie Yao.
"What happened? Why don't you sleep so late at night?" Butler Lu dissuaded in a low voice.
Nie Jinxi turned around and saw Butler Lu coming over. She quickly pointed at her door and complained, "Butler Lu, you must tell Grandpa to take charge. Nie Yao is going too far. She actually hung her shoes on my door. What's the point? Is she trying to show me off?"
As she spoke, her eyes turned red. Father Nie also came out of the room and saw this scene, frowning slightly.
"Jinxi, is there some misunderstanding?"
"Dad, this isn't a misunderstanding. If you don't believe me, ask Nie Yao to come out. I can confront her!"
Seeing Nie Jinxi's solemn promise, Father Nie hesitated for a moment, then knocked on Nie Yao's door and said gently, "Ayao, it's Dad. Are you asleep? If not, get up and open the door..."
Nie Yao finally opened the door, already dressed in her home clothes. She rubbed her eyes and asked with a smile, "Dad, I just got woken up. What happened?"
"Nie Yao, you are still pretending!" Nie Jinxi looked at Nie Yao with sleepy eyes, and raised the high heels in her hand angrily and questioned her.
"Are these shoes yours?"
Nie Yao glanced at the high heels in Nie Jinxi's hand, nodded and admitted generously: "Yes, they look like mine, how come they are in your hands?"
"You—" Nie Jinxi was so angry that her face turned pale. She was about to ask loudly, but Butler Lu came over again and whispered, "The master wants you all to come over. He has something to ask!"
