Chapter 28: Reasoning
Nie Jinxi responded quickly and glared at Nie Yao coldly, as if to say that she was going to make trouble for him. Nie Yao shrugged and followed Butler Lu nonchalantly.
Father Nie was a little worried and was about to follow. Seeing Lin Anqi still peeking out, he angrily scolded her, "What's so interesting? Why don't you go back to bed?"
Lin Anqi was yelled at by her stepfather. She shrank her neck in fear and returned to her room unwillingly.
When Nie Jinxi and Nie Yao followed Butler Lu to Old Nie's room, Old Nie was sitting on a rattan chair with a rather dignified look on his face.
"Jinxi, Ayao, why are you not sleeping so late at night? What are you doing?"
"Grandpa, it's Nie Yao. She hung her shoes at my door. Isn't this a sincere curse on me?" Nie Jinxi stepped forward first and said with a look of grievance.
Elder Nie had already heard a general idea from Butler Lu. He glanced at Nie Yao and asked thoughtfully, "Ayao, are these shoes really yours?"
"It does look like my pair..." Nie Yao nodded and answered calmly, "But I don't know why they appeared at Nie Jinxi's door."
"Nie Yao, you still want to quibble? Everyone knows that you are the first one to come back. Only you would do this!" Seeing that Nie Yao refused to admit it, Nie Jinxi was so angry that she pointed at her and scolded her.
"Then tell me why I did this!" Nie Yao asked with a smile.
"You...you're just jealous of me! You think I've taken your place as the eldest daughter, and you want to drive me away. You hung your shoes at my door just to overpower me!"
Nie Jinxi said this, then looked at Old Nie again, with a mournful face, "Grandpa, I know I've been your eldest granddaughter for all these years for no reason, but when I ask myself, I know I haven't done anything wrong! I can understand that Sister Nie Yao just came back and is upset with me, but I've never targeted her, yet she wants to curse me..."

Old Nie took a sip from his water cup, then looked up at Nie Yao, who was standing beside him with a calm expression. He asked in a deep voice, "Ayao, tell me honestly, did you hang the shoes at Jinxi's door on purpose?"
Nie Yao smiled faintly and spoke calmly, "I just said the shoes looked like mine, but I didn't say they were definitely mine..."
"Nie Yao, this pair of shoes is clearly the one you wore at the party tonight. The heel is broken and it's a limited edition. How could I have made a mistake?" Nie Jinxi was furious for a moment and did not hide her knowledge of the shoes.
"It seems that you know my shoes better than I do!" Nie Yao said meaningfully.
