Chapter 39 What Happened in Childhood

Chapter 39 What Happened in Childhood

Li Jinxing laughed softly and said nothing more. He just watched her busy in the kitchen quietly.

Picking vegetables, washing rice, cooking, beating eggs... She did these steps methodically, while asking, "Are there any foods you avoid?"

"I don't eat carrots!" Li Jinxing said indifferently.

"Carrots are so nutritious, and you don't eat them!" Nie Yao glared at him in disbelief.

"There are many nutritious dishes, but that doesn't mean I have to eat everything..."

Li Jinxing's argument was convincing, and Nie Yao could only shrug helplessly. She put the carrots she had prepared aside and muttered softly, "Only when you've been truly hungry will you stop being picky about food..."

Although her voice was soft, Li Jinxing heard it clearly.

He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows and asked with interest, "You are so touched. Could it be that someone has ever let you go hungry?"

According to the investigation he had sent people to conduct, her adoptive father was a well-known academic figure in the archaeological field. Since he adopted her, he would not let her starve!

Seeing her silence, Li Jinxing smiled and joked, "Could it be that your adoptive father deliberately abused you?"

"Of course not, my adoptive father treated me very well!" Nie Yao denied Li Jinxing's guess without hesitation, shook her head and whispered, "It's just that before I met my adoptive father, I was hungry before, and I remember clearly how terrible hunger was..."

Li Jinxing's brow furrowed slightly. This was exactly what puzzled him. He had sent people to investigate Nie Yao's background, but they discovered that there was almost no trace of her before she was adopted by the archaeologist Professor Fred...

"What happened to you when you were a child that made you suddenly leave the Nie family and be adopted by that archaeologist?" Li Jinxing asked in a deep voice.

"Maybe I was too young back then, I don't remember it anymore..." Nie Yao laughed self-deprecatingly, shrugged, and said, "My adoptive father said that when he adopted me, I had a high fever, and after waking up, I didn't remember anything..."

She never doubted her adoptive father's words, because he had been very good to her since she was a child. She had no idea how she left the Nie family and why the Nie family had not looked for her for so many years!

I may have felt resentful in the past, and wondered if I had been abandoned, but as I grew up, these thoughts gradually faded...

Until the Nie family came to her house and said she was their long-lost relative, she had already made peace with it and was even reluctant to go back, because she was already very satisfied with her current life...

"Haven't you asked your father or grandfather?" Li Jinxing asked thoughtfully.

Nie Yao shook her head and replied with a faint smile, "There's no point in asking. If it weren't for my adoptive father's persuasion, I probably wouldn't have come back. I don't care about any of this anymore..."

"Don't you hate them?" Li Jinxing frowned slightly and asked in a low voice, "Don't you want to know if someone deliberately made you leave the Nie family?"

"Maybe I hated it when I was young and ignorant, and even suspected that I was abandoned..."

Nie Yao smiled, turned around and looked at Li Jinxing at the kitchen door, and sighed softly: "But then I thought it through. Pursuing the truth won't change anything. It's better to adjust your mindset and live your life well!"

"If all wealthy families had a mindset like yours, they probably wouldn't fight each other to the death for property and power..." Li Jinxing sighed softly, then jokingly said, "Your mindset is quite Buddhist. Could it be the aftereffect of doing too much archaeology?"
