Birds of a feather flock together

Birds of a feather flock together

The interrogation room was similar to others, but Du Pianjian didn't even bother to look around; the feeling of drowsiness just wouldn't go away.

The interrogation was no different from what was happening at the Criminal Investigation Division, and Du Pianjian's attitude remained unchanged.

Once again, Du Pianjian closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, ignoring the other party's questions.

The door opened, and an Alpha walked in. The interrogator immediately stood up to greet him: "Chief."

Alpha's name is Fu Yikuang. He is Chi Hengxun's superior. He is over fifty years old, tall and dignified, and rarely smiles. There is a small scar on his left cheekbone. His eyes, which look down at Du Pianjian, are focused into a sharp point.

He raised his hand, and the interrogator immediately left the room.

The deep, slow voice, devoid of emotion, sounded like a warning: "You feel no remorse for causing the death of an excellent officer."

"Your evaluation is excellent, not mine. In my opinion, he's a rotten person."

He leaned forward, slowly placing his hands on the table, his shadow completely enveloping Du Pianjian: "He has repeatedly distinguished himself in battle, protecting the safety of the people with his body and will, receiving numerous honors, and remaining loyal to the Alliance. In your words, he is a 'rotten person'?"

here we go again.

Du Pianjian lifted his eyelids slightly, the same words repeating themselves before his eyes countless times. How could someone become blameless simply because they achieve something, while others have to endure terrible treatment for achievements that are meaningless to them?

Silence was taken as weakness and having nothing to say, so Fu Yikuang pressed his advantage: "You can sit here now, breathing the air provided by the Alliance, enjoying the peace he defended with his life, and then deny his contributions to you and the Alliance?"

"So does that offset his other crimes?" Du Pianjian slowly opened his eyes and looked at Fu Yikuang. "So can he act recklessly based on these things?"

“Every action he took was legal and compliant.”

"Which of these actions—surveillance, tracking, restriction of personal freedom, and shooting and injuring civilians—is compliant with regulations and which is legal?"

"evidence."

"Four years ago in February, the city police dispatch record showed that the dispatchers were He Chan and Sang Pingqiu."

How did you know?

“Chi Hengxun said it himself. He would repeat to me ten or a hundred times anything he had ever done that was related to me.” Du Pianjian’s mocking gaze seemed to pierce through Fu Yikuang’s body, which was wrapped in a neat uniform. Under such a gaze, he began to rot involuntarily. “You’re not surprised. It seems you know.”

Fu Yikuang's lips were tightly pursed, and the muscles in his cheeks twitched.

“Birds of a feather flock together,” Du Pianjian said dismissively. “If you had something else to offer, you wouldn’t keep emphasizing your contributions.”

“You are indeed mentally unstable.” Fu Yikuang straightened up. “Even so, you must spend the rest of your life repenting for the mistakes you have made in prison.”

Fu Yikuang turned around and walked towards the door.

"the same as you."

The volume wasn't loud, but it made Fu Yikuang stop in his tracks as he opened the door. He turned to look at Du Pianjian, who was back in the same position as before, leaning against the back of his chair with his eyes closed, as if he was about to go to sleep.

The hands crackled in Fu Yikuang's hands, the residual heat lingering for a long time.

The door opened with a click, and the stuffy, hot air enveloped the exhausted group.

The short-haired policeman ran over, complaining repeatedly, "Brother Xin! We really tried our best, but we're just not in the same league!"

A higher-ranking official can have a crushing effect, let alone someone three ranks higher.

"knew."

He Can moved with lightning speed, heading straight for the corridor where the bureau chief's office was located. Sang Pingqiu pulled the young policeman to the other side. Upon arriving, He Can knocked twice on the door, his footsteps and "Come in" appearing together in the bureau chief's office.

"Director Feng! How could you agree to the handover of Du Pianjian?"

Behind the large wooden desk, the woman stood upright like a pine tree. The fine lines around her eyebrows and eyes could not conceal her calm and meticulous gaze. Feng Chuiheng put the pen cap back on the fountain pen, clasped his hands together on the table, and said in a low but authoritative voice: "The case involves the bomb disposal bureau, and it is understandable that the other party requested to transfer it. Moreover, I am a close relative of the party involved, and I should recuse myself under the law."

He froze for a moment, and after a second or two of silence, he said, "Yes, Director, I understand. But now I suspect that Du Pianjian is involved in another criminal case, and I request that Du Pianjian be transferred back."

Feng Chuiheng asked, "What case?"

"Can the bomb disposal bureau interfere in other cases we're handling?"

"No, unless it involves both parties."

"So, Director Feng, why don't you just ask for the person back as I just suggested?"

"What case do you want to talk about first?" Feng Chuiheng pointed to the chair opposite him.

He sat down and said, "In Du Pianjian's house, we discovered a secret room containing various weapons and rescued a hostage inside. This person was Yu Zou, Du Pianjian's spouse, who died in a yacht accident a year ago."

According to the witness's testimony, he was found by Du Pianjian in Lingwan eleven days prior, then drugged and locked in a secret room. He did not witness Chi Hengxun's murder during that time.

"This alone cannot be used as grounds for requesting the suspect to be brought back for another case."

“I know, but! The witness testified that he possesses evidence of involvement in the production and smuggling of addictive substances. To corroborate his statement, I request that Du Pianjian be brought back for questioning regarding the details of the yacht explosion to determine the reliability of the witness testimony!”

The air around Feng Chuiheng froze instantly, his eyes sharp as an eagle's: "Where's the evidence?"

He Chan retrieved the evidence from the address provided by Yu Zou from his bracelet and unfolded it.

Feng Chuiheng scanned the lines quickly, her face growing increasingly ashen. She picked up the phone, pressed three keys, and within three seconds, the other party answered. She spoke first: "Hello, this is Feng Chuiheng from the Criminal Investigation Department. To make a long story short, Du Pianjian, whom we previously transferred to you, is now suspected of being involved in another major smuggling case. We need him to talk. From the nature of the case and a professional perspective, it would be more appropriate to transfer him to us for joint investigation. This is against regulations!...Understood. Thank you for your cooperation."

"Chief?"

Feng Chuiheng raised her index finger, then dialed another number; the similar conversation lasted for about a minute. He Can watched her actions.

"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau applied for a mental evaluation, which confirmed that Du Pianjian has a mental disorder. The case has been submitted to the court on charges of intentional injury. He is currently being held in a special psychiatric prison."

As soon as he finished speaking, He Chan fell silent; the process was abnormally fast.

"He Can, set up a special task force to investigate the clues provided by the witnesses."

The escort vehicle drove smoothly on the road. Du Pianjian sat alone on one side of the carriage, playing with the handcuffs on his wrist.

There was a square lattice window, 20 centimeters long and wide, in the center of both the front and back, and the guard's gun was symmetrical to the diagonal of his head.

The prison was in the suburbs of the capital. As the car passed through a tunnel, a faint sound rang out in the darkness for a few seconds. Suddenly, another person appeared in the opposite carriage, which had previously held only one person.

Their clothes were ordinary, and they looked alike, even down to the exact same mole on their lips. Only their eyes were dull and lifeless; they sat motionless opposite Du Pianjian, like puppets.

Du Pianjian looked him up and down and asked, "And what's your name, Luo?"

The barely audible reply was crushed by the roar of the engine: "My surname isn't Luo."

"Who are you?"

"I am Du Pianjian, an Omega, 28 years old. I was married once, but my husband is dead. Because I was unhappy with Chi Hengxun's harassment of me, I stabbed him in a fit of emotion..."

"stop!"

The other party immediately fell silent, which only made Du Pianjian even more displeased. "Who exactly are you?"

"My brother calls me Xiao Fu."

Du Pianjian waited a while, then realized he was like a tube of toothpaste that was almost empty, only telling stories as he squeezed out a bit. So he asked, "Who told you all this?"

"elder brother."

What else did he tell you?

"Stay put."

"And then you can get it?"

Xiao Fu looked up blankly, seemingly not understanding the question.

"Otherwise, why did you come to take the blame for me?" Du Pianjian's gaze slid down, and Xiao Fu's eyes involuntarily followed him to the handcuffs on her wrists.

He murmured, "Because my brother sent me."

Do you know what crime I'm about to be convicted of?

Xiao Fu shook her head.

"capital offense."

Du Pianjian looked at Xiao Fu. He was neither shocked nor afraid, but remained indifferent, though his indifference was tinged with confusion.

The car drove into the tunnel again, and the interior was plunged into darkness once more.

When they emerged from the tunnel, only a numb person remained in the car, his clenched fists resting on his knees. Before even entering the prison gates, he already looked like a prisoner.
