Chapter 9: She doesn't argue with him?

"Thank you for giving me money to buy clothes."

A woman's urgent voice came from behind.

Huo Beixiao paused, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

He turned around and saw the woman's bright smile, and subconsciously asked, "Aren't you angry?"

For a moment just now, Jiang Qiaoqiao felt a little uncomfortable.

But she quickly realized that she and Huo Beixiao were only husband and wife in name. Huo Beixiao also said that he would cooperate if she wanted a divorce at any time.

He also gave her money for household expenses and for buying her clothes.

It's like she doesn't have to serve men anymore, and she even has someone to give her money to spend. What could she possibly be dissatisfied with?

Jiang Qiaoqiao blinked her beautiful almond-shaped eyes, which were full of smiles. "Why would I be angry?"

"We agreed yesterday that we wouldn't actually be husband and wife, and you still give me money for household expenses and clothes. You're already so kind, thank you!"

Huo Beixiao's tense heart immediately relaxed.

It turned out that not only did she not argue with him, but she was also genuinely grateful to him.

A strange feeling welled up in Huo Beixiao's heart, which seemed quite pleasant.

This was something he had never experienced before in his dreams about spending time with Jiang Yiran.

In his dreams, Jiang Yiran always seemed to have countless reasons to argue with him, and the Jiang Yiran he saw was always hysterical.

Huo Beixiao's steps toward the factory became lighter, and a rare smile appeared on his lips.

When he arrived at the factory looking like that, the other workers were all taken aback.

Huo Beixiao didn't think anything of it and even smiled and nodded to his colleagues before entering his office.

As soon as he entered the office, the rest of the maintenance team went wild.

"Was that engineer Huo who just went in?"

"Who else could it be but Engineer Huo?"

"Engineer Huo... he can actually laugh?" Liu Yuan's pupils dilated in shock.

He had been working with Huo Beixiao at the cement factory for three years. Huo Beixiao was considered his mentor, and he had always worked for him. This was the first time he had ever seen Huo Beixiao smile.

He used to think that Huo Beixiao had a naturally cold face and would never smile.

"Hehe, people are in high spirits when they have good news. It's normal for Engineer Huo to have a smile on his face after getting married."

Another fitter in the maintenance team patted Liu Yuan on the shoulder and said meaningfully, "You'll understand when you get married."

Liu Yuan scratched his head. Is getting a wife really that good?

Why do so many older factory workers prefer to play cards together after get off work rather than go home and face their wives?

On the other side, Jiang Qiaoqiao took four hundred yuan from her own money, plus the ten yuan and cloth coupons that Huo Beixiao had just given her, put them all in her pocket, and then went out.

As a new bride in the compound, Jiang Qiaoqiao immediately attracted ambiguous glances as soon as she stepped outside.

Someone greeted her warmly.

She smiled and nodded in response.

But she had just walked over.

Then I heard people behind me starting to talk.

"Is this the Huo family's new bride? She's wearing old clothes on her first day of marriage. She looks like she's going to settle down and live a simple life."

“What kind of life is this? You know Huo’s personality, don’t you? And I’ve heard that…”

The gossipy sister-in-law glanced at Jiang Qiaoqiao's retreating figure before lowering her voice and saying, "She's the Jiang family's biological daughter, whom they brought back from the countryside two years ago. Engineer Huo originally wanted to marry the Jiang family's adopted daughter, but she used her cunning to get that adopted daughter married into the countryside instead, and she married into the family instead."

As soon as the man said this, someone immediately chimed in with a sudden realization: "I knew it! Not only did Engineer Huo not have a wedding banquet yesterday, but he also made two trips to the countryside. So he went to see his sweetheart!"

Then an old lady who lived next door to Huo Beixiao said in her gossipy voice, "There wasn't a sound from their house last night!"

Everyone here has been through similar experiences, and upon hearing the old lady's words, they all understood what she meant and exchanged knowing smiles.

Jiang Qiaoqiao was unaware that she had become the central figure in the compound's public opinion.

She took the money and went for a walk around the market.

There are only three individual clothing vendors in the entire county now, and they almost all sell men's clothing.

Although slogans like "women hold up half the sky" are everywhere now, the power of speech in the family is still basically in the hands of men.

Moreover, society generally believes that men should dress presentably when they go out to work, while women, who stay at home doing housework and taking care of children, are fine as long as they have clothes to wear.

The Friendship Store, on the other hand, had a good quantity and variety of women's clothing.

Jiang Qiaoqiao observed that women's clothing sold better than men's clothing at the Friendship Store.

However, the items at Friendship Shopping Mall are relatively expensive, and only those at the very top of the income pyramid in the entire county can afford to shop there.

As a result, there are still many mid-range customers in the county who have nowhere to buy clothes.

After some investigation, Jiang Qiaoqiao felt that selling women's clothing at a stall should also have a market.

She made up her mind and was looking at the clothing styles in the Friendship Store, observing which ones would sell well, and figuring out what kind of goods she should stock in her first batch.

Then a surprised voice rang out, "Oh, sister, you're here too!"

"Did Brother Beixiao also give you money to buy two new outfits?"

As soon as Jiang Qiaoqiao turned around, she saw Jiang Yiran, dressed in a brand-new red dress, rushing over like a jubilant little bird and taking her arm.

Peng Cuiying, who accompanied her shopping, was also by her side.

When Peng Cuiying saw Jiang Qiaoqiao, she remembered that Jiang Qiaoqiao had taken away all the 800 yuan that originally belonged to Jiang Yiran, as well as the tickets for buying three large items.
