Chapter 173 The Disappointing Opening Dance

Most of the time, I was with Shen Que.

Feng Shixu had a playboy's face and was thin and tall, but Pei Ji noticed that he had not spoken to anyone since he entered.

Even now, he did not make any eye contact with the other commanders, but just looked sideways at the front, as if he was looking at Shen Que.

Among the seven fleets, Feng Shixu and Shen Que are closest, and he is also close to the Queen.

Before marriage, Pei Ji always thought that he was pursuing Shen Que, but after marriage, he never heard Shen Que mention it.

However, Pei Ji discovered that the network of relationships that others talked about and the network of relationships that Shen Que had in Shen Que's eyes were two different things.

Judging from Shen Ke's attitude alone, he is not familiar with anyone and knows less about others than he does about the little cakes in the royal court.

He only said a little more to the princess.

Pei Ji's heart sank.

The seven people took their seats, and Carolina stood up, tapping the ground lightly with her scepter.

The whole place was silent.

Admiring, respectful, and sinister gazes were all cast towards the magnificent throne.

The prosperity and vanity, conspiracy and collusion in the room are intertwined into a rose bush full of thorns, surrounding their supreme crown.

Carolina opened her mouth, and every word came out as clear and powerful as jade.

"I feel so fortunate to be able to celebrate this day with all of you once again."

"I sincerely hope that you all remember that the reason we celebrate is to remember why we have come this far."

“Because we treat the weak well.”

“Because we correct all our mistakes.”

"Because our ancestors waded through blood and thorns for us."

"We are sincere to our friends, and we are loyal to our loved ones until death."

"Therefore, the goddess protects us, allowing us to have our own foothold in the vast universe, to love and be loved."

She glanced at everyone under the throne one by one, and her eyes passed by An Luya beside her.

A glimmer danced in the princess's eyes, and a flicker of emotion crossed her face, but she quickly regained her composure.

Carolina raised the scepter.

“This is a feast, and it should be celebrated with grand events.”

"The Ikaros Empire is immortal."

As soon as the words fell.

Shen Que made a fist with his right hand, and placed his palm on the position of his heart:

"For the Empire!"

The other six followed his movements, pressing their hands to their chests and raising their heads, saying:

"For the Empire!"

The firm voice echoed in the magnificent palace.

Carolina took her seat, the music began again, and the guests became noisy again.

Several commanders left the center of the main hall and gave their place to the nobles who were going to perform the opening dance.

"Do you want to dance your first dance with Commander Shen?" Wen Ti asked Pei Ji beside her.

Pei Ji paused.

"No." He said lazily, "I don't like dancing, and I'm not very good at it."

As soon as he finished speaking, Princess Ann Luya walked down from the side of the throne.

She walked in front of Shen Que, raised her hand, and bent down slightly.

Shen Que hesitated for a moment and held her hand.

There were small exclamations from all around.

Wenti opened her eyes wide in horror when she saw this scene.

"Hey! General Pei."

She wanted to call Pei Ji, but she saw Pei Ji walking straight to the place where he and Chen Que had stood before without looking back, and took a glass of cherry liqueur from the servant.

Donald walked over and gave the two of them a puzzled look.

Jiang Jianyue also showed a look of surprise, and her eyes lingered between Shen Que and Pei Ji.

The former has already stood still under the bright lights, while the latter is walking further and further away, heading towards a corner where no one cares.

Jiang Jianyue patted Wen Ti's shoulder and pointed in the direction of the dance floor with his chin.

"Dancing with Donald," she said. "I'm going to have a drink with Peggy."

Shen Que was bathed in the light, the moonstone between his eyebrows shone with brilliant colors, and he took a deep breath.

"Nervous?" Ann Luya looked at him calmly. "I remember you couldn't dance before."

Shen Que glanced at her coldly.

Wendy held Donald's hand and stood not far from them.

"Oh——" Lu Ya smiled, "and eyeliner."

The music in the interlude stopped and the first dance was about to begin.

Carolina sat upright on the throne, frowning as she looked at Lu Ya and Chen Que, who were closest to her. Apart from a slightly cold look in her eyes, she had no other extra emotions.

According to the procedures of the royal banquet, she needed to watch the first dance before leaving.

The prelude of the waltz sounded, Lu Ya made an invitation gesture, and Shen Que walked up to her and took her hand.

"Do you want me to be more gentlemanly or less gentlemanly?" Lu Ya asked, putting his arm around Chen Que's waist.

"What do you think?" Shen Que asked back, his voice devoid of any warmth.

"Then let's give General Pei some face." Lu Ya raised the corner of his mouth, but didn't really touch Chen Que's waist.

The two of them turned half a circle to the dance music.

"Why are you taking out your anger with His Majesty on Pei Ji?" Shen Que asked in a voice that only the two of them could hear.

"Why are you angry? I'm doing this for her own good. Isn't she upset with Pei Ji? Look, I specially prepared this dance for her."

Luya said as he glanced at Carolina.

But the Queen was looking the other way.

Lu Ya's eyes darkened and he looked away.

"If you do this, she will only think you're paranoid." Shen Que said bluntly, "Do you know what you look like now? A youngster who keeps making mistakes to get his parents' attention."

Lu Ya paused and pursed his lips: "You are really fierce today, Xiao Que."
