The afternoon sun shines into the classroom.
Dust particles floated in the air, shimmering with tiny sparks of light.
Students who had just finished their lunch break were sitting scattered in the lecture hall, whispering to each other and waiting for the professor to enter.
The girl sitting in the front row whispered something in her companion's ear, and occasionally looked up and took a peek at the back row.
"You said you like Chen Lu?" Young Ai Fan frowned and looked at the girl in front of him with blushing cheeks with disapproval.
"Shh!"
Carolina quickly covered her mouth, and stole a glance at the window seat in the back row, the corners of her mouth unconsciously rising.
"I ran into him in the library yesterday!"
Her eyes were unusually bright as she took out a yellowed volume titled "Selected Tales from the Sea of Life."
"Do you remember when our biology teacher asked us to do a project on the ocean of life? I couldn't come up with one, so I went to the library to borrow this. I happened to run into him, wanting to borrow it too, and he was so gentlemanly he gave it to me!"
Carolina held the book like a treasure.
Her long, drooping hair was coated with a dazzling golden sheen, and her gem-like eyes were overflowing with moving vitality.
She didn't know how many times she looked at the thin boy who was sitting alone, reading with his eyes lowered.
The boy seemed to be naturally separated from the people around him by an invisible barrier. All the noise dissipated around him, leaving only a hint of indifference and alienation.
"So you were planning to make up the biology homework?" Ai Fan's brows frowned even deeper.
"Is that the point?!"
Carolina put her hands on her hips.
"The most important thing is that he was very gentlemanly in helping me take down the book - it was originally on the top shelf - and asked me very gently: 'Do you like the Sea of Life too?'"
"So you fell in love with him?"
"How is that possible? I've noticed him before."
The boy who was reading a book seemed to be aware of the distant gaze and looked up.
Carolina quickly turned around, holding her cheek, and whispered shyly:
"He liked to sit on the lawn of the School of Life Sciences at five o'clock and sketch. I would pass by there on my way to practice piano."
"He's alone most of the time, and occasionally he'd be with that...what's his name? Chu Yang, yes, that Chu Yang."
"He often feeds the pigeons in the clock tower!"
Ai Fan sighed:
"You'd better not like him."
"Why?" Carolina curled her lips. "Because he's the prince?"
"That's not it."
Ai Fan looked at Carolina with complicated eyes.
"Since you've noticed him for a long time, you should know that our prince has no other talents besides loving life and being obsessed with it."
"His economics, sociology, and military studies all received the lowest grade, D. Even Pei Li only managed a B... Of course, I'm not praising him, but do you know what this means?"
Carolina opened her mouth: "What..."
"This means that even if he inherits the throne, he will only become a deposed emperor."
"He can't protect his country."
Carolina's bright eyes dimmed.
"But he's really nice... and his Life Science is at the highest level, E!"
"Why do we have to force him to study something he's not good at? If he could go to the School of Life Sciences, he would definitely become an excellent researcher."
"He can't go," Ai Fan said. "He is a prince, and the empire is his responsibility."
Carolina's mouth drooped.
She couldn't help but look back again, and this time, she met Shen Lu's gaze.
The gentle and shy prince never lowered his head after missing her gaze last time, and kept waiting for her to look at him again.
After getting Carolina's attention as he wished, he slowly raised the corners of his mouth and smiled at her.
Carolina's heart began beating like a deer.
I still like him!
She was sure.
…
The wind blows through the wisteria.
The rustling of falling petals brought Carolina back to her senses.
Today, the turbulence of time and space in the Sea of Life has long erased all traces of Chen Lu's existence.
The people of Ikaros have forgotten the name, appearance, life experience, and deeds of their incompetent old emperor, and only remember his sins that almost led to the destruction of his country.
But she still remembers.
Carolina didn't know why.
Perhaps it is the blessing of God.
She gently brushed off the lavender petals that fell on her clothes and looked back at the young Alpha in front of her.
Pei Ji is very similar to Pei Li, from his sharp eyebrows to his high nose bridge, and to his straightforward and arrogant personality.
But he occasionally shows the side of Ai Fan.
For example, now, he was looking at himself with a frown on his face, showing disapproval.
"I don't like so-called fatalism."
He carefully considered his words for a rare moment before saying in a deep voice, "Your Majesty, this may be a bit offensive, but I personally believe that fate and everything else are ultimately our own choices."
"You gave up the life you wanted because you wanted to protect the empire and its people for that person more than anything else, didn't you?"
Rich black tea aroma.
In a trance, Carolina felt as if she was listening to Ai Fan talking.
Pei Ji said bluntly: "Just as there is no perfect person in this world, there is no perfect choice in this world."
“All we can do is take responsibility for our choices, accept all their consequences, give up what we should give up, and gain what we should gain.”
"But I feel like we're far from the point where we have to make a choice or give up anything."
"His Majesty."
