Chapter 18: Money Received (2/2)

My father-in-law was a butcher who often gave his family extra money. However, they hadn't separated their households before, and the pork he received as extra money was secretly and openly distributed among his grandsons.

Not to mention Yan Qiuxing returning, even Shui Qing couldn't get a piece of her.

As time went on, the father-in-law's family grew disheartened and stopped providing financial assistance.

He was supposed to go and support his father-in-law's business and buy pork from him, but he didn't have time to go to Niutou Town where his father-in-law lived because he needed to buy a lot of different things that day.

Secondly, he feared that his father-in-law would refuse to accept the money as before.

Let's go another day with a gift...

As he walked to the pork stall, Fan Jin looked at the pork with its alternating layers of fat and lean meat, gritted his teeth, and bought a full two jin!

It cost seventy-six coins.

The vendor gave me an extra large bone.

Fan Jin accepted it with a smile.

Then he went to the blacksmith shop. With a large family and the children growing up and eating more, he chose a large iron pot and bought it.

Iron was expensive; it cost half a tael of silver.

After the family separated, they had some coarse pottery bowls and earthenware pots, but that was all; they couldn't even think of having any extra.

When asking the villagers to build thatched houses, breakfast and dinner are not required, but lunch is a customary obligation.

Thinking of this, Fan Jin turned around and went into the nearby general store.

He didn't look at the porcelain, but only at the cheap and durable coarse earthenware bowls. He picked out more than ten large ones and bought five or six coarse earthenware basins to hold dishes and soup.

And the odds and ends that you might need.

It cost a total of four hundred coins.

Carefully stacking the items in the bamboo basket, and carrying the large iron pot, Fan Jin walked towards the city gate.

I stopped in my tracks as I passed the cloth shop.

"Sir, we've just received a new batch of fabric. It's high-quality and inexpensive. Come in and take a look!" the waiter called out enthusiastically.

Fan Jin looked toward the cloth shop with his dark, lustrous eyes. He hesitated only slightly before stepping inside.

Shuiqing said that currently only food and seeds are available, and there isn't enough money for the other items.

The cloth was in the 'not enough' column.

He was the only one in the family who wore coarse cotton clothes; Shuiqing and the five children wore linen clothes that were patched upon patched.

The weather is getting cooler, he needs to buy some cloth and cotton to take back home.

Shui Qing, awakened by the warm morning sunlight, was in a daze for a while.

The morning mist had not yet dissipated in the fields, the air was fresh, and as far as the eye could see, everything was green, vast and pleasing to the eye.

The pastoral scenery is undoubtedly beautiful, and the sunshine feels warm and cozy on your skin.

The water was clear, yet I felt both sorrow and joy.

The good news is that it's a sunny day.

For her, who had nowhere to shelter from the wind and rain, there was no need to awkwardly seek shelter from the rain or frantically cover her food, bedding, and clothes.

Even on a sunny day, there's something to worry about.

It rained the day before yesterday, and the mushrooms were abundant in the woods yesterday, but with the continuous sunshine for a few more days, I'm afraid we won't even see a trace of mushrooms anymore...
