Chapter 249 Something's Going Wrong (1/2)

Fan Erzhu and Fan Sanzhu rushed to the front, taking out brightly colored clothes one by one from their baskets and throwing them on the ground. The more they rummaged through them, the more impatient they became: "These are all clothes that can't be eaten?"

"Not even a little bit of food?"

When Fan Qian and the other two who followed heard that it was all about clothes, their excited expressions faded.

Looking at the clothes scattered on the ground, Fan Sizhu muttered, "These clothes are all red and pink, with little flowers on them. We can't wear them."

Fan Zhaodi took the basket off her back, squatted down, and picked up the clothes on the ground one by one, patting the dirt off with her little hands.

It wasn't originally intended for her brothers; it was prepared by her second aunt.

Sun Jinhua stepped forward, took the clothes and examined them carefully in the sunlight, then curled her lip in disdain: "These are all old clothes. They must have been worn by those two girls, Daya and Erya, before they were given to you. Hu Shuiqing is good at currying favor with your second uncle."

Fan Zhaodi thought silently, "Second Aunt doesn't need to fawn over Second Uncle or put on a show to please him."

In fact, whether or not to take her in, and whether or not to treat her well, was entirely up to her second aunt. Her second uncle acted according to her aunt's mood and intentions.

But we don't need to let them know these things.

Sun Jinhua continued to comment: "This pink one is nice, that light green one is also nice, and the blue one with small white flowers is alright... Don't wear these anymore, put them away so I can use them when I go back to my parents' home."

In the past, Fan Qian would not have interfered with the distribution of his daughter's clothes; it was always Sun Jinhua who made the decisions. But remembering what his mother had said to him that morning, he scolded, "These are for Zhao Di!"

Stop thinking about your good-for-nothing brothers; they'll buy their own dolls!

Sun Jinhua, who had been scolded, stared wide-eyed at her husband in disbelief.

How dare he say something bad about her brother?

They immediately retorted.

Fan Zhaodi watched as her parents started arguing as soon as they returned. The two of them were red-faced and neither of them would back down, spewing out all sorts of hurtful and cutting words.

Then, the mother threatened to kill herself, and the father simply said he would send her on her way and give her some peace and quiet.

Grandma watched the spectacle from the sidelines, while her four older brothers remained unmoved.

Fan Zhaodi sighed, recalling the scene at her second aunt's house where everyone sat together and discussed things.

Even if she breaks a bowl or spills soup, she is not met with blame or beatings, but with concern for whether she has cut her hand or burned herself.

She looked at her father, who was unusually angry today, refusing to budge an inch over her new clothes, completely different from before... Had her father changed?

Whether or not it hurts to give away the clothes, at least it's helping her.

Her father never cared whether she lived or died.

Fan Zhaodi, who was unsure of what to feel, inadvertently met Grandma's scrutinizing eyes.

She was startled, quickly composed herself, and timidly called out, "Grandma."

Mother Fan didn't want to respond. This granddaughter only cared about living a good life at her uncle and aunt's house and didn't care about her, her grandmother. Seeing her made her furious!

Then, thinking that he might have to rely on this granddaughter to get through the years when there was no food, he hummed in agreement through his nose.

He added, "Don't run around outside these next few days. Don't get sunburned or get injured."

Fan Zhaodi looked up in surprise, and this time she was truly shocked!

When did Grandma ever say anything caring to her granddaughter?

My second aunt once said that if something seems out of the ordinary, there must be something fishy going on, and that they must be vigilant. Sometimes it's okay to assume the worst about others!

Are Grandma and Grandpa after her, or after Uncle and Aunt's family?

ยท

Shuiqing's family has the most rabbits in the village.

First, rabbits reproduce very quickly; adult rabbits give birth to litters upon litters. Second, they are numerous, ranging from a few to more than a dozen.
