Chapter 365 Preparing the Bags (2/2)

If the eldest son of the King of Yan doesn't become the crown prince, that's fine, but if he does, you'll have to be careful.

Sometimes, even when you're focused on moving forward, you need to look up and see where you're going, understand?

Ability is important, but sometimes choosing the right side is even more important. Choosing the right side is like winning the battle for the throne, and you can win without lifting a finger. Choosing the wrong side, however hard you work, will be of no use.

Ling Ran's heartstrings twitched violently when he heard the last sentence.

Does Aunt Shuiqing mean... taking sides?

He replied, "Don't worry, Aunt Shuiqing, I won't just act recklessly."

Shui Qing was at ease, mainly because her powerful grandfather was there to guide her and wouldn't let Ling Ran act recklessly.

Ah, being born into a good family is really an advantage. It saved them decades of hardship. Yan Qiu and the other six didn't have that kind of luck.

Butcher Hu was feeding the donkey when he saw his daughter and Ling Ran return. He quickly went up to ask them what was wrong.

Hearing the noise, Hu's mother in the courtyard quickly came out, and Shuiqing briefly explained that her mother-in-law had passed away and about the bandits.

Then she said, "Mother, make some egg pancakes first, then boil some eggs, the more the better, so Lingran can take them with him on the road."

Despite her sadness, Mrs. Hu readily agreed and hurried toward the kitchen.

Ling Ran entered his room, carefully surveyed the entire space, and finally took out the cloth backpack that Aunt Shuiqing had made for them to start packing.

Having lived in the house for over a year, he had quite a few belongings inside. He didn't touch anything else, only packed away two sets of clothes sewn with gold leaves and silver sequins, along with paper and pens.

After much deliberation, he finally couldn't resist taking out the neatly folded sky-blue handkerchief from under his pillow and placing it inside his undergarment.

Finally, standing outside the door, he took one last deep look at the house, then turned around and resolutely closed the door.

Inside the main house, Shuiqing quickly bought pork jerky, spicy pork jerky, five-spice beef jerky, and hand-shredded beef jerky from the mall. She couldn't eat draft cattle, but she could eat specially raised beef cattle and cattle that had died of disease or old age. Besides, things were chaotic now, so who cared whether or not they ate beef?

Shuiqing carefully wrapped each item in oiled paper, then bought hemostatic powder, gauze, and other items from the mall. She also took out half a box of gold leaves and silver flakes from her storage box, but after looking at it, she felt it was still not enough, so she added more and more.

When he finally brought it out, Butcher Hu laughed and said, "Qing'er, this doesn't look like a journey of three to five days. It'll probably take thirty to fifty days!"

Shui Qing was afraid that if she revealed Ling Ran's departure now, her parents would be reluctant to let her go, so she covered it up by saying, "Prepare more, it's better to be prepared."

"That's true! It's okay to bring back what we can't finish. We won't go hungry on the way," Butcher Hu agreed.

In the kitchen, Mrs. Hu had boiled a pot of eggs and was placing them in a bucket to soak in cold water.

Hearing the noise in the yard, he scooped all the eggs out of the bucket and put them in a bamboo basket. He then packed up the freshly made egg pancakes and carried them out, asking, "Ling Ran, do you think this is enough? You were in such a hurry, I only had time to prepare this much."

"Qing'er, prepare more money for the baby. If we come across a city on the way, he can go in and buy some good food."

I wonder how far away that governor is, and whether he passes through any other prefectures along the way? But it's always good to bring extra silver!

Ling Ran took a deep breath and solemnly bowed to the two elders.

Mr. and Mrs. Hu stood there, stunned.
