Chapter 48 A Boy Who Isn't Bad at Heart (2/2)

Shuiqing quickly looked at her younger brother, puzzled.

Hu Wenhua scratched his head sheepishly, offering no explanation, and simply said, "I took some of my nephews and nieces to the market!"

He's been doing odd jobs these past few days and has earned over a hundred coins, which he'll use to take the kids out to buy some treats!

“You have to keep a close eye on them when you take them out! Be careful of them from being robbed!” Mother Hu called out worriedly.

"Don't worry, Mother!"

"Grandma, don't worry, we won't run around and we'll hold Uncle's hand!"

The five children excitedly followed behind Hu Wenhua.

Hu Wenhua's name doesn't match his rugged appearance and robust physique, nor does his age of fifteen.

He walks like a burly little mountain, and even other strong men will give him a wide berth, for fear of offending him.

Yan Qiuxing felt very safe with the children following behind him.

Fan Jin, who had just returned from cutting grass, saw his brother-in-law about to take his children out, so he quickly fed the grass to the cattle and followed them.

The market was crowded, with stalls on both sides taking up half of the already narrow road. The crowd in the middle was dense, and Fan Jin, worried about pickpockets, held his two daughters tightly in each hand.

Hu Wenhua held Fan Hu's hand with his left hand and Fan He's hand with his right hand, letting Fan Jiang follow behind him. With him in front, no one could squeeze Fan Jiang.

"We don't have candied hawthorns this season, but we do have sugar paintings. Would you like some? It's on me!" Hu Wenhua called out loudly to the people behind him.

What child doesn't love sweet food?

Sugar paintings are especially beautiful and delicious!

Fan Jin was about to offer to pay, but then realized he had no money. He could only watch as the five children surrounded Hu Wenhua, crowding his sugar painting stall.

He waited quietly to the side.

"Get out of my way! I'm going out alone today! Anyone who tries to stop me will get a beating!" The arrogant voice suddenly rang out, sounding particularly out of place in the festive and peaceful market.

Fan Jin and his companions looked toward the source of the sound, thinking that some bully was harassing a passerby.

On a tall, white horse without a single stray hair, sat a handsome boy of twelve or thirteen.

The boy, gripping the reins and looking impatient, was scolding the group of servants holding the reins beside him.

"Young master, you can't act alone! If you lose even a single hair, we servants won't be able to explain ourselves!" a group of servants pleaded desperately.

Seeing that everyone in the market was looking at him, the boy's still-childish face showed shame and anger. "Let go! The outside world is a den of dragons and tigers, but I'm going to brave it!"

He pulled on the reins, turned the horse around, and whipped its rump hard. The horse, in pain, reared up and galloped away.

He left a group of servants behind, who quickly chased after him, shouting, "Young master, young master, come back quickly, it's dangerous outside!"

"Young master, you are still young and have no idea how dangerous the outside world is. Stop now and come back to the manor with us!"

The louder the servants shouted, the more fiercely the boy in front whipped the horse, and they soon disappeared at the end of the market.

The market has returned to its previous bustling and peaceful state.

Hu Wenhua exclaimed, "What a handsome white horse!"

The sugar painting vendor chimed in, "This rich kid has never experienced hardship; he's arrogant and ignorant."

A passerby spat and cursed, "Why not enjoy a good life? They're just asking for trouble! People like them shouldn't be enjoying themselves!"

"Heaven is unfair! Why should someone like this be born into a good family and enjoy happiness!"

Fan Jin frowned and gently defended the boy: "This boy is of good character. Look at him, he may be making a fuss, but he didn't whip the servant or let the horse's hooves crash into the crowd."

He must have been controlled by his family too much, so he decided to try his luck outside; after all, he's not a bad person at heart.
