Chapter 10: Selling knotweed

"You really don't want to come with us," Qian Meili asked Du Jiang again, "Can you be alone?"

"Okay," Du Jiang nodded affirmatively, "Be careful," and then Du Jiang waved at Qian Meili and walked in a direction.

Qian Meili and He Jiefang, who remained where they were, watched the people leaving one after another. They looked at each other and shrugged in unison, "Let's go to the supply and marketing cooperative."

The tacit understanding they had since growing up together made Qian Meili and He Jiefang speak exactly the same way.

"But before going to the supply and marketing cooperative, go to the post office first to see if there is anything sent from home."

He Jiefang had no objection to Qian Meili's arrangement and nodded without objection. "Okay, I'll follow your instructions. It's a good opportunity for me to check on my family and see if they have any letters."

As they talked, the two of them followed each other and walked towards the supply and marketing cooperative.

Meanwhile, Du Jiang, after wandering around and asking for directions several times, finally found the town hospital. After circling the pharmacy several times, he finally mustered up the courage to step forward, leaned against the window, and asked softly, "Hello, do you sell herbs here?"

The nurse who was tidying up the table looked up when she heard this, glanced at Du Jiang and said, "Go down the corridor. The second to last one is our director's office. Go over and ask him to write you a prescription."

After listening to the process, Du Jiang quickly thanked him, "Thank you, comrade."

"You're welcome"

Du Jiang then followed the nurse's instructions and found the office of the director of the medical department.

“Knock knock~”

"Come in," hearing the deep and heavy male voice from inside the door, Du Jiang, who had not yet entered the door, had a rough estimate of the director's age.

When he saw the middle-aged man with a bald forehead, only a few hairs remained, he knew he had guessed right. He quickly approached with a basket on his back and said, "Hello, Director. I have some knotweed and cicada shells here. Do you accept them?"

Director Sun looked Du Jiang up and down, then his eyes fell on her bright, large form. "How about you take it out and let me see it?"

Upon hearing this, Du Jiang took off the basket on his back, took out the knotweed and a handful of cicada shells from it and placed them on the desk.

Director Sun glanced at the small number of two medicinal herbs on the table, then took a dried herb and compared it to a piece of grass. "The length is okay. By the way, my last name is Sun. You can just call me Director Sun from now on. I haven't asked for your name yet."

"Hello, Director Sun. My name is Du Jiang. You can just call me Xiao Du."

"Du Jiang, you're from Dujia Village. Your surnames are easy to recognize," Director Sun smiled and pointed at the herbs on the table. "There aren't many safflowers and cicada shells. You must have picked them in your free time. I didn't realize there were people in Dujia Village who knew about herbs. Okay, bring your herbs and follow me."

As he said this, he stood up and motioned Du Jiang to pick up the herbs and follow him.

Du Jiang obediently put the things into the backpack and followed Director Sun. The two returned to the pharmacy window again.

As Director Sun knocked on the glass a few times with one hand, the nurse that Du Jiang had just questioned poked her head out again, "Director Sun, you're here."

Director Sun pointed at Du Jiang and said, "This is from Dujia Village. Please weigh her herbs and write a prescription for her to come to me for stamping."

Following Director Sun's instructions, Du Jiang moved quickly and handed the knotweed and cicada shells in the basket to the nurse. After the nurse weighed them, she wrote a prescription for Du Jiang.

Looking at the handwritten list, Du Jiang turned to look at Director Sun again, "Director Sun, thank you for your help."

"It's okay. The process is a bit complicated the first time. Next time, just ask Xiao Sun to weigh it for you. But we agreed in advance that we can't mix it with grass. If we find out, we won't accept your herbs anymore. Also, the price at the hospital will definitely be lower than outside. If you don't want to, you can change your mind now."

"No regrets, no regrets," Du Jiang quickly shook his head, "Thank you so much, Director Sun."

Director Sun didn't say much about Du Jiang's understanding. He just turned and walked towards the office, and at the same time, he did not forget to signal Du Jiang to follow him. "Come with me, I'll stamp your money and then you can go to the finance department to collect the money."

When Du Jiang walked out of Director Sun's office again, she had a bill in her hand. Although the amount on it was not much, not even more than one dollar, it gave Du Jiang hope, the hope of making money.

When walking past the pharmacy window on the way to the finance department, the nurse named Xiao Sun poked her head out and called Du Jiang, "Hey, little girl, come here for a moment."

Following the other person's gaze, Du Jiang pointed at himself blankly, "Me?"

"Of course it's you. If not you, then who else? Come here and I'll ask you."

Du Jiang walked over, confused, "Hello, what's going on?"

Nurse Sun chuckled and said, "What's your name? My name is Sun Zhenhua."

Du Jiang hesitated for a moment before finally giving his name. "My name is Du Jiang, and I'm from Dujia Village."

"I know your last name is Du, so of course you are from Dujia Village. I called you because I want to tell you to be careful when picking herbs. If you come across ginseng or something like that, you can come to our hospital." Nurse Sun kept looking at Du Jiang while speaking, not missing the changes in emotions on her face.

Du Jiang was stunned at first, then calmed down. She didn't take Nurse Sun's gaze to heart, but just nodded in agreement, "I know. If I come across it, I will definitely come, but that thing is very rare."

Nurse Sun knew how precious ginseng was without Du Jiang telling her. She sighed and said, "Who said it wasn't that? But if you're lucky, you can come to me. The price will definitely be higher than outside."

It was obvious that Nurse Sun was very eager for ginseng, but Du Jiang, who currently had no ginseng, could only nod and agree, and only then was she let go.

Du Jiang took the slip and went to the finance department to withdraw money. Looking at the few dimes in his hand, he counted them over and over again before putting them into his pocket with satisfaction. At the same time, he decided in his heart that he would go to the mountains to collect herbs when he was not busy in the future.

Walking out of the hospital gate, Du Jiang felt that the ordinary hospital behind him was now shining with golden light, like a god of wealth distributing money.

Fortunately, Du Jiang remained calm and did not act too excited. After all, if he were to get excited in the crowded street, who knows what might happen.

The current environment is not very suitable for expressing emotions too openly. Du Jiang tried her best to restrain her excitement. Thanks to her rationality, Du Jiang controlled her emotions very well. If her steps were not so light, no one might have noticed.
