Without the small bag, Huo Yang pedaled his bicycle until sparks flew out. He first took a half-year vacation from the factory, and then went straight to the scrap yard.
Standing in the ruins, Huo Yang searched for a while, and finally found a set of textbooks as more and more people came. Then he walked out facing those pairs of burning eyes.
Huo Yang weighed and paid the bill in one go, without even asking for a high price. Although he charged one dollar more than usual, Huo Yang didn't feel bad about the money. He pedaled his bike back, his eyes occasionally glancing at the textbook on the handlebars along the way, his heart full of excitement and joy.
When Huo Yang arrived home, Du Jiang had already cleaned up the living room. "You're back," Du Jiang said, looking at the book in Huo Yang's hand. Du Jiang quickly moved aside and said, "Here, put it on the dining table. The dining table is bigger and the living room has good light. I thought I'd read it here during the day and in the bedroom at night."
"Okay, I'll listen to you," Huo Yang nodded. "No one from the educated youth point has come yet."
"Chun Xiao is here. She followed Brother He and the others to the town. Didn't you meet her?"
"No, I must have taken a wrong turn," Huo Yang didn't ask any further questions. After putting the textbook on the shelf, he carefully checked it again to confirm that there was no problem. Then he said, "When I came back just now, the scrap yard was crowded with people. This set of books cost more than one yuan more than usual. The number of people who want to buy books will only increase."
"Of course," Du Jiang said without looking up as he flipped through the textbook, checking for any signs of damage. "After all, this is a major event in life, and it's the first time in so many years. The textbooks are definitely in short supply, but we're fine now. The previous set plus this one makes two sets, so we don't have to worry about reading. But if the educated youth camp can't get them, how about giving them a set?"
"Okay," Huo Yang nodded, noncommittal. "I'll ask Guan Chuan tomorrow to see what his brothers think."
"They should all be participating. They haven't gotten married in all these years and have been single all the time, so the chances of them participating are very high," Du Jiang thought for a moment and said, "Brother He and Sister Qian have been arguing over the issue of their child in recent years. I'm afraid they've settled down now."
"That's true. If I can leave, I won't be bound by the constraints of this place." It's not that Huo Yang thinks Dujia Village is bad, but it's mainly because Huo Yang has been so busy all these years that he has very little sense of belonging to Dujia Village.
"Yes, the world outside is definitely more interesting." Similarly, Du Jiang is not someone who can live in a small corner. This can be seen from the things he has been doing over the years. "Study first, and then we can discuss where to apply for the exam."
"There's no rush for this," Huo Yang said. "Dad should have a plan. If nothing unexpected happens, it should be Cangzhou. After all, it's our hometown. Although it can't compare to the capital and coastal cities, its economy is still more prosperous."
Speaking of Cangzhou, Du Jiang felt a little headache. "It's not that I don't like Cangzhou, it's mainly because my second uncle and the others are there, and I'm worried."
"Don't worry about that. With dad around, they can't cause any trouble. What's more, they want to save face. What happened back then was such a big deal. They won't change their minds just to save face now." Although Huo Yang's words were reasonable, Du Jiang was still a little worried.
Seeing this, Huo Yang reached out and held Du Jiang's hand, comforting her, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought this up, but you shouldn't think too much about it. Instead of worrying about the future, it's better to focus on the exam first and worry about the results later."
Huo Yang's words made perfect sense. Du Jiang agreed and nodded immediately. "Okay, I'll follow your advice. Let's start reviewing today. We'll go directly to the educated youth center tonight. Guan Chuan is the teacher, so we should have more contact with him and we can exchange ideas."
"Okay, I'll listen to you. There's half a chicken in the kitchen. I'll bring it over tonight."
"Why don't we just make it?" Du Jiang subconsciously glanced towards the kitchen. "They don't even know what time they'll be back, so let's just make it and bring it over."
"Alright, I'll go over and see if anyone is there," Huo Yang suggested, worried about wasting his time. Du Jiang remained noncommittal, saying, "Okay, go quickly and come back soon."
Huo Yang walked quickly and returned in a few minutes. As soon as he entered the house, he shook his head at Du Jiang and said, "Let's not talk tonight. They all went to the town, including Guan Nian and Guan Liang. I guess Guan Chuan won't go back to the educated youth camp after work."
"Is that so? Then eat at home and go over to check on the situation after dinner." Du Jiang was not surprised by this. "Sister Qian should have another set of skills. Why did you go with her?"
"I'm not sure about that. When I went there just now, the door was locked from the outside. It seemed that no one was there." Huo Yang shrugged and quickly put the things on the dining table away. He said, "I'm going to the kitchen to cook. You can take a rest today."
Du Jiang nodded and continued to clean up.
By the time Huo Yang finished his good night greeting, Du Jiang was almost unaware of the living room. Although the coffee table and sofa had not been moved, anyone would think at first glance that this place looked more like a study than a dining area.
Both Du Jiang and Huo Yang were very satisfied with the wide variety of books and stationery on the dining table.
Huo Yang: "Let's eat first, and then we'll go to the educated youth site to take a look."
Du Jiang: "Okay, let's eat on the coffee table. The dining table will be used as a desk from now on. We'll make do for a while."
"I'll listen to you," Huo Yang nodded. "When we get back to Cangzhou, we'll have to buy a bigger house, otherwise there won't even be enough space for a study."
"Yeah," Du Jiang agreed, looking at the sparrow-sized house. "That's true. Xingle is growing up day by day, and he will have more and more books. I couldn't get a bookshelf before, but I guess I won't have to worry about it too much in the future."
"When the time comes, we'll set up a study room specifically for her, as well as Xingle's room. If possible, we'll make it bigger so we can also have a small study room here," Huo Yang said about his future plans while constantly serving food to Du Jiang. "Eat more, you've lost a lot of weight recently."
"No, I haven't lost any weight at all," Du Jiang said, feeling distressed as he touched the belly fat. "My belly fat is all in a circle."
"It's not as exaggerated as you say, it's just a little bulge." Huo Yang looked at the movements of Du Jiang's hands, feeling both amused and helpless. "Don't try to lose weight by imitating others. I really don't think you're fat at all. Besides, it's more comfortable to touch a belly with some meat on it."
Hearing this, Du Jiang spat at Huo Yang in annoyance and said, "Eat your meal. You still have things to do after dinner. I don't know when they will be back."
"Don't worry, we won't travel at night."
