After receiving the notice, Du Jiang and Huo Yang were completely relieved of their stress. Instead, they made preparations in advance. Since they had confirmed that they were leaving here and there was a high possibility that they would never come back, Du Jiang and Huo Yang had to put the disposal of the house on the agenda.
On the 20th day of the twelfth lunar month, Du Siming also took the time to bring Huo Ze back.
In the living room, Du Siming looked over Du Jiang and Huo Yang's admission letters before handing them back to them. "I've already bought the tickets, and I'm leaving before the New Year. I have a courtyard in Cangzhou that a friend has been taking care of for me over the years. I've already spoken to him on the phone, and he says the courtyard is ready. You can just move in when you get there. My transfer order is after the New Year, so I'm afraid we won't be able to celebrate the New Year together this year."
"Are you leaving before the New Year?" Du Jiang was puzzled. "School doesn't start until February, so why not leave after the New Year?"
"Time is tight after the New Year, and Xingle still needs to be settled. It's okay to go earlier, not to mention that we'll have more time to spend together in the future." Du Siming rubbed his brows. "If the work handover here can be completed before the New Year, I'll go with you, but the transfer order is a bit troublesome."
"I'm with you because I have some old things to deal with." When talking about the past, Huo Ze showed a hint of sneer on his face, and then looked at Huo Yang casually, "Your father and I have some old grudges to deal with. I didn't care about it before because of the old man, but now I can't."
"I understand," Huo Yang said calmly, as if he had already known about the old feud Huo Ze mentioned. This made Huo Ze feel depressed, and he couldn't help but ask, "Do you really not care about the feud between me and your father?"
"He's not," Huo Yang's eyes were filled with indifference and nonchalance, "When I left home, we were clear of each other. I won't get involved in what happens between you and him, and I won't interfere."
"Tsk tsk, how cold-hearted!" Huo Ze sighed as he watched Huo Yang's cold expression. "I wonder if that man would regret his decision to drive such an outstanding son out of the house and leave behind a mediocre one after seeing you."
Huo Yang disagreed. "No, there's no regret in making a move. Besides, with that woman here, he won't regret it."
"Then you're wrong." Upon hearing this, Huo Ze showed an extremely strange smile on his face. "Even the deepest feelings can't resist the fleeting beauty. Without good looks, everything is false. Moreover, that person is the most fickle. Now I think it's quite lively."
Du Jiang, who was standing aside, watched the interaction between Huo Yang and Huo Ze. Although she was not very clear about the cause and effect, she understood a thing or two. However, she did not care much about it and just ignored it and continued to play the little game of "you pat me, I pat you" with Huo Xingle in her arms.
The mother and son were very warm and affectionate. Du Siming saw it, but he did not get involved in the affairs between the uncle and nephew. Instead, he moved over and said, "Xingle, do you want to go with mom and dad, or stay with grandpa first?"
Huo Xingle's game was interrupted, but he wasn't angry. He spun his little head around in Du Jiang's arms a few times before saying with a grin, "I want to be with Mom. Isn't Grandpa with us?"
"Grandpa has some things to take care of, so he might not be able to come over for a few days. Doesn't Xingle miss Grandpa?"
"Yes, but Xingle wants to be with mom more. Xingle has been separated from mom for a long time." Huo Xingle said this with some grievance, "Mom doesn't miss Xingle at all."
Ahem, the old things were brought up again. Du Jiang coughed a few times with a guilty conscience and looked at Huo Xingle apologetically. "Sorry, I've been busy lately, but I won't do that again in the future."
Huo Xingle snuggled in Du Jiang's arms and nuzzled her affectionately. "I know. I forgive you, Mom, but there can't be a next time."
"Okay, I understand," Du Jiang and Huo Xingle said, and they hooked their eyes.
Looking at the childish mother and son, Du Siming shook his head and laughed, then said to Du Jiang, "You are getting younger and younger now. Forget it, I won't disturb your reunion. You can go ahead. As for the house, let me take care of it. It happens that I also want to live next door. I'm afraid it will be difficult for me to come back in the future."
"Yeah," Du Jiang looked around, his face full of emotion, "I've lived here for nearly ten years now, it's like my second hometown."
Du Siming nodded in agreement, while Huo Ze and Huo Yang on the other side also stopped their tit-for-tat exchanges. Looking at Du Siming and Du Jiang with nostalgic faces, they couldn't help but recall the past days. Although they cried a little and were tired, with their family and loved ones by their side, the days didn't seem too lonely.
"We will be together as a family in the future," Du Siming was the first to wake up from his memories. He reached out and wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes. "When you get back, please visit your parents for me. If you don't want to, you can just wait for me to come over."
Uh, Du Jiang was silent for a moment, but nodded, "Dad, I understand. I'll go back to see my second uncle, but it's my eldest uncle's place."
"Don't worry about them. You haven't seen them many times since you were little. I'm afraid they might not recognize you even if they meet you in person." Du Siming shook his head. "Besides, your aunt has poor eyesight, so it's better not to."
"Okay, I get it. I'll listen to Dad." Du Jiang nodded, then pulled Huo Xingle out of his arms and said, "Dad, stay and have dinner with us. I'm making dumplings today."
Unexpectedly, Du Siming looked at the sky outside, shook his head and refused, "The weather is not very good, it may snow, I'd better go back as soon as possible. Okay, it's getting late, I'll go back first", then he stood up and walked out.
Seeing this, Huo Ze waved at the couple, turned around and followed. Before leaving, he did not forget to instruct the couple, "You must take good care of Xingle. Your father and I will go back first."
After saying this, he didn't care about the couple's reaction. He came and left in a hurry.
After seeing off Du Siming and Huo Ze, Du Jiang and Huo Yang shrugged their shoulders at the same time and walked back. Huo Xingle ran around the house happily, and the wooden windmill in his hand squeaked as he ran, adding some lively atmosphere to the silent house. Even he seemed lively.
Du Jiang looked at the gloomy weather, thought about it and finally decided to eat hotpot.
When the copper pot was brought into the house, the snow started falling outside. From the beginning, it was light and then it became a drizzle. In just an hour, the yard was covered with a layer of white frost.
"I don't know if Dad and my uncle have arrived in town yet," Du Jiang was a little worried. As the sky outside got darker and the snowflakes got bigger, he became more worried.
Compared to Du Jiang's worry, Huo Yang didn't take it seriously. He picked up a piece of meat with chopsticks and put it in Huo Xingle's bowl. Then he patted Du Jiang's hand on the table soothingly, "Don't worry, Dad is a secretary now. If he wants to come, there's a car to pick him up. If not, he can ride a bicycle when he leaves. Can't two grown men ride a bicycle?"
"That's true." Du Jiang felt relieved after hearing Huo Yang's words of comfort. "Let's go to the town some other day."
"Okay, I'll listen to you."
