Chapter 43 Daya's Mother

Just as Du Jiang was discussing with Du Yingying and Tianniu, the door of Old Lady Du's house slowly opened, and a graceful woman with long hair walked out. Her long, smooth, black hair hung down behind her, rippling in the breeze. The woman had delicate features, and she was wearing a light yellow spotted dress and a pair of black leather shoes, which made her look out of place in this village.

As the woman walked out, Daya's figure also appeared in front of everyone. Daya was wearing tattered clothes and her feet were bare. But what really made everyone gasp was the bruises on Daya's exposed arms and legs, which were as thin as matchsticks. It was obvious that she had been beaten with a long rattan or stick. Some parts were even bleeding. It was obvious at a glance that the person who beat her was very cruel. To be so cruel to a child of seven or eight years old, it can be seen how vicious that person's mind was.

Daya followed the woman out with her head lowered. The crowd spontaneously dispersed to both sides to make way. The woman held her head high from beginning to end, as if those pointing and talking were not directed at her. The indifference and disregard between her brows reminded Du Jiang of the noble ladies in ancient times, women who were surrounded by pavilions, towers, jewels and gems. Their pride was engraved in their bones and dissolved in their blood. Du Jiang couldn't imagine why such a proud woman was forced to marry Old Lady Du. Although he had never seen that man, he could imagine what he looked like by seeing Old Lady Du's mean face. He was definitely not the one the woman in front of him said she liked.

Perhaps Du Jiang was watching too intently, which caught the woman's attention. She led Daya slowly to Du Jiang's front and said in a voice as clear and pleasant as the sound of jade falling on a plate, "You are Du Jiang. Thank you for taking care of the baby these days. I will take the child away today." Then the woman turned her head to look at Daya, who was lowering her head behind her, and said in a serious voice, "Baby, hold your head high and come and say thank you to Comrade Du."

Daya raised her head obediently, and Du Jiang then discovered that there was still a slap mark on Daya's face. She glanced at the woman, then at Daya, not knowing what to say.

Du Jiang's thoughts were easy to understand, and the woman saw through them immediately. She immediately turned around and looked at Old Lady Du's yard with disgust, "This was all caused by that old woman and her good son. Oh, and let me tell you, her and her youngest son killed his eldest son."

What? The onlookers listened to the woman's self-report, all of them looked horrified, looked at the woman, then looked at the yard, and stepped back to keep their distance.

Du Jiang also wanted to retreat, but unfortunately he was pushed in front by Du Yingying and Tianniu. He couldn't move even if he wanted to, and could only stand there stiffly. Du Jiang pulled the corners of his stiff mouth and tried to squeeze out a smile, "Well, you're welcome, I didn't do anything."

"Thank you for nothing," the woman said, pulling out a small notebook and a pen from the bag on her wrist. She then wrote something in the notebook in a flamboyant manner. When she was done, she tore up the paper and handed it to Du Jiang. Seeing Du Jiang's blank expression, the woman, Nangong Liuli, raised her delicate eyebrows slightly and said, "Take it. Baby said she wanted to write to you. This is the address. You can keep in touch in the future."

"By the way, my name is Nangong Liuli, and her name is Nangong Jinyao." Perhaps she thought of something, and Nangong Liuli took Daya's hand and walked two steps and then paused. She turned around and looked at Du Jiang and said to herself. Then, without caring about Du Jiang's reaction, she directly pulled Daya, who had changed her name, away.

His elegant back was the same as when he came, which made Du Jiang a little envious.

"Nangong, there aren't many people with this surname. There must be no one with this surname around here." There was some unclear emotion spreading in Du Yingying's eyes, but Du Jiang and Tianniu had been staring at the direction Nangong Liuli left and didn't notice it. Maybe they were too engrossed in watching and didn't hear Du Yingying's question clearly. After Du Yingying asked again, the two shook their heads to indicate that they didn't know either.

Then, a bystander explained, "No, there isn't one. However, a girl from the village behind the mountain married someone from another place. I seem to remember that she fell into the water because she came back to visit her seriously ill grandmother. I heard that when she got married, many people from her family came and gave her a lot of gifts. If it were our family, I would definitely treat her as a treasure. It's a pity that Old Lady Du is so short-sighted. She deserves it."

As she was speaking, the door of Old Lady Du's house opened again, and Old Lady Du and Du Xiangqian were escorted out by the police, both with dejected faces.

Seeing this, Du Jiang immediately thought of the two people who were conspiring to murder that Nangong Liuli had just told him about, and subconsciously took a few steps back, and Du Yingying and Tianniu also took a few steps back.

After the two were forced through the crowd and left the village, Village Chief Du, who had been attending a meeting in town, also rushed over. Seeing the crowd at the Du family's door, Village Chief Du's face immediately darkened. He angrily started to drive away the onlookers, "Go to work! Why are you guys refusing to eat?"

After seeing Du Yingying in the crowd, Village Chief Du's face turned even darker. Looking at the face as gloomy as ink, Du Jiang left Tianniu and Du Yingying and ran away inhumanely.

Didn’t she see that everyone else was running after her? If she didn’t run, would she just stay there and get scolded?

When Du Jiang ran back to the pigsty, Tianniu followed closely behind, panting. Du Jiang looked at the empty back of her and breathed a sigh of relief, "Sister Yingying is home?"

"You're asking even though you already know the answer. Aunt Cui also left after you ran away." Tianniu shuddered at the thought of Aunt Cui's gloomy expression. "Aunt Cui has always kept a close eye on Yingying. I'm afraid she won't leave the house this time."

"Ah, is it so tight?" This was the first time Du Jiang heard this. He felt it was a little unbelievable. Even if he spoiled his children, he would not lock them up at home all the time.

Seeing that Du Jiang didn't believe her, Tianniu looked around and whispered in Du Jiang's ear, "When I was a child, a master came to the village and said that Yingying was destined to be a noble person, but her marriage was a bit bumpy and she needed the help of a good friend to succeed." Perhaps because she was afraid that Du Jiang wouldn't believe her, Tianniu took out the little wooden man again, "This wooden man was given to my family by the master. He said that if you meet someone who looks like the wooden man, you will have a good fortune."

Looking at the wooden figure in Tianniu's hand, Du Jiang was a little dumbfounded, "No, that's not what you said last time."

"It doesn't matter. Anyway, the master said that the wooden man is a matchmaker. It is good for marriage, and when the marriage is good, everything else will be good as well." The sweet girl stroked the wooden man very gently, and the look in her eyes when she looked at Du Jiang seemed to be filled with honey, which made Du Jiang a little nervous.
