Chapter 98 One million, no bargaining

Lin Xiaoshen glanced at Wei Ruolan, his eyes flickering slightly.

Yes, stay here, and you can enjoy Chen Moli's spicy rice noodles tomorrow morning.

It also helps him avoid his roommates' probing questions about his new clothes.

But can he really stay?

When the boundaries between work and life become blurred, it will probably be much harder to re-establish a clear distinction between the two later.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Lin Xiao raised his hand and pulled Wei Ruolan into his arms, saying in a low, hoarse voice, "No, I'd better go back."

Wei Ruolan was taken aback.

My heart suddenly tightened.

Overwhelmed with joy, she raised her hand and hugged Lin Xiao's shoulders tightly.

But in just a brief moment, Lin Xiao released Wei Ruolan.

"I'm leaving now."

Wei Ruolan felt a sudden emptiness in her heart, and a sense of loss washed over her.

But she also felt a sweet sensation, blushing and shyly saying, "Mmm. Drive carefully on the road. Slow down."

Lin Xiao simply hummed in agreement and walked away.

At the end of the corridor, Chen Moli stared in astonishment at the scene she had just witnessed. She clutched her chest, feeling as if her heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys had been crushed.

ah.

it hurts.

She never expected that seeing Mr. Lin and President Lan being intimate would make her feel so uncomfortable.

She turned around and quietly slipped back into her room, trying not to be discovered by Wei Ruolan.

Lin Xiao got into the car, took out his phone and glanced at it; there was a missed call.

It's the same unfamiliar number that sent him the message last time.

Feng Bairan.

Lin Xiao thought for a moment, then tossed his phone into the glove compartment and ignored it. He started the car and drove back to Jiangda University.

In the enclosed space, Lin Xiao listened to music and focused on driving.

Large raindrops pounded against the windshield.

The rain was heavy and torrential.

Lin Xiao pressed the wiper switch, clearing away the visual obstructions ahead.

Driving at night with low visibility, especially in heavy rain, can be deadly.

Just then, a loud cell phone rang.

Lin Xiao glanced at it and saw it was Feng Bairan.

Annoyed, he raised his hand to reject the call.

But Feng Bairan wouldn't let it go and attacked again.

Lin Xiao had no choice but to answer the call and hear what he had to say.

He didn't speak, just waited for the other person to speak first.

Feng Bairan's voice came through: "Hey, Lin Xiao, what are you doing? Why aren't you answering the phone?"

Lin Xiao was angry and retorted directly: "If you don't answer the phone, it's obviously inconvenient for you to answer the phone."

"I'm driving. If there's an accident, you'll be fully responsible!"

Feng Bairan fell silent.

After a long pause, he tentatively said, "Then... focus on driving. I'll call you back later."

"Speak your mind. Get to the point. Stop with the nonsense," Lin Xiao growled.

He felt annoyed whenever he thought of Feng Bairan.

It would be best if we never met again, and never had any contact with each other until death.

Feng Bairan was probably a little angry too. He remained silent for a moment before calming himself down and saying in a flat tone:

"My birthday is on the 16th of next month."

"I would like to invite you to attend, so that the other uncles and elders can meet you."

Without a second thought, Lin Xiao said, "I'm not going."

He didn't want to be an obedient puppet, summoned and dismissed at will.

Feng Bairan sighed helplessly, "Ah Xiao, listen to me, the Feng family's business will eventually need someone to inherit it. After I pass away, you will be my only son, and I will definitely pass it on to you."

Lin Xiao's mind stirred slightly; it did sound rather tempting.

However, Feng Bairan is still in his prime, in the height of his life. It will be at least thirty or forty years before he passes away. By then, he will be old, and what would be the point of taking over the Feng family business?

He'd be a fool to have a bone hanging over him for thirty or forty years, making him subservient, obey his orders, and treat him as his superior!

So he sneered in a nonchalant tone, "Don't give me empty promises. Give me something tangible."

Feng Bairan was furious.

After a long pause, he finally said, "You're charging 100,000 yuan an hour to be someone's lapdog. I'll give you 500,000 yuan, is that alright?"

Upon hearing this, Lin Xiao was displeased and sneered, "One million, no bargaining."

If you look down on him, then don't bother me.

Feng Bairan was even angrier. After a long silence, he finally squeezed out a single word through gritted teeth: "Fine."

Before long, Lin Xiao received a reservation on his phone for November 16th, from 8 pm to midnight.

He also received a message from Feng Boran: "[The 7 PM time slot is locked; reservations are unavailable. Please release it.]"

It was clear that he was a little impatient.

While waiting at the traffic light, Lin Xiao quickly replied with a few words: "Can't change a thing."

Seven o'clock is Ji Ran's time.

He couldn't be bothered to argue with Ji Ran over such a bad father.

Ji Ran was already very sensitive and suspicious, so he preferred to avoid trouble.

Feng Boran sent another message, his tone even more furious:

Are you expecting a room full of people to wait for you alone? What will they think of you? What will they think of me? Have you thought about that? You're a student at Jiangnan University, how can you be so clueless about basic social etiquette?

Lin Xiao ignored him, returned to school, and parked his car in the side parking space under the sycamore tree.

He typed a somewhat irritated reply: "You don't have to wait. Nobody's forcing you to wait. What others think is none of my business, nor do I care. As for your problem, you solve it yourself. At your age, don't you even understand this basic principle?"

After sending the message, Lin Xiao picked up his phone and backpack and got off the bus.

He opened his umbrella; the rain was still heavy, and it quickly soaked his clothes.
