Chen Moli smiled and said, "Miss Hehe is waiting for you in the living room."
Lin Xiao nodded and strode into the living room.
As soon as she entered, XiXi rushed over like a miniature cannonball.
Lin Xiao casually handed the bag to Chen Moli, then bent down and caught the little girl steadily.
The little girl let out a silvery laugh.
XiXi wrapped her arms around Lin Xiao's long neck and said in a childish voice, "Daddy, Daddy, why did you take so long to come?"
"Our teacher, Ms. Liu, has asked me about it."
"Oh? What did you ask us about Xixi?" Lin Xiao, holding Xixi, walked towards Wei Ruolan, gave her a polite nod, and greeted her with a smile, "Good evening, President Lan."
Wei Ruolan wore a retro red silk shirt, a white high-waisted knee-length skirt, and stilettos in the same color scheme as the shirt.
A delicate ruby pendant necklace adorned her slender and elegant neck, further enhancing her femininity.
Wei Ruolan nodded slightly and replied softly, "Xixi said she wanted to hear your story and asked me when you were coming."
Hee-hee quickly interjected, "Yes! I want to hear Daddy tell me a story."
Lin Xiao sat down on the dark brown high-end leather sofa with Xi Xi in his arms and said with a doting smile, "Tell me! Whatever story Xi Xi wants to hear, Daddy will tell it to her."
"I want to hear 'Little Red Riding Hood'! Mom told it once, but I still love it so much!" XiXi clapped her little hands happily, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Lin Xiao expectantly.
Puff kept her two blue-gray cat eyes wide open the whole time, observing everything with curiosity and calmness.
At this moment, it finally couldn't hold back any longer, leaped up onto the sofa, and tentatively approached Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao: "No problem. By the way, what did Teacher Liu ask Xixi? Xixi hasn't told her dad yet?"
XiXi clenched her chubby little hands, lowered her eyes, and said, "Teacher Liu asked me why my dad didn't pick me up?"
The little girl looked aggrieved, her two little eyebrows furrowed like caterpillars.
Lin Xiao glanced at Wei Ruolan lightly.
The latter raised her eyebrows slightly at him, indicating that she was already aware of the matter.
"So what did Xixi say to Teacher Liu?" Lin Xiao passed the buck back to her.
Because he didn't know how to say it properly.
He wasn't sure if XiXi, with her current intelligence, could understand the transactions between adults.
Xi Xi seemed to accept his appearance quite naturally, perhaps because he looks somewhat similar to Feng Qi.
But children's memories are always so short.
Adults can clearly remember what children looked like when they were little, but children may not remember that you were there for them in that time and space.
This is probably what happens when the timeline of life is out of sync, Lin Xiao thought.
XiXi raised her head, glanced at Lin Xiao, and said seriously, "I told Teacher Liu that Dad is very busy with work, so he can't come to pick me up."
A knowing yet somewhat disappointed expression appeared on her little face, as if she was trying to understand the adult world, yet also carrying a hint of helpless confusion.
XiXi continued, "But Dad said he would come to see me. Teacher Liu said I'm great and sensible."
Lin Xiao stroked the little girl's sparse, soft, ear-length hair, his peach blossom eyes filled with laughter, and said, "Our Xixi is so smart! How about Daddy picks Xixi up from school next week?"
"Okay!" Hehe's grape-like eyes seemed to be filled with a galaxy, shining brightly.
Hehe, she was happy and went to tease the cream puff again.
"Hehe, let's go brush our teeth first, then we'll go back to our room to listen to 'Little Red Riding Hood.' Puff wants to hear it too," Lin Xiao said.
Cream puff: "Meow~"
"Mmm." He nodded with a giggle.
XiXi followed Lin Xiao to the washroom, stood on the step stool, and waited obediently for Lin Xiao to squeeze toothpaste for her.
Chen Moli bent down to pick up the cream puff and watched the young lady brush her teeth with a smile.
"Mr. Lin, have you had dinner yet?" Chen Moli asked softly.
Lin Xiao was slightly taken aback, then a faint smile appeared on his face, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.
He didn't want the other person to see his exhaustion and hunger, after all, he was there to work.
"Yeah, I'm busy, I haven't had time to do it yet."
Lin Xiao responded casually, his tone relaxed and nonchalant, as if it were no big deal.
He gently patted XiXi's little head and said softly, "XiXi, after you brush your teeth, let's go listen to a story, okay?"
He tried to shift his attention away from himself and towards the little girl.
Chen Moli hurriedly turned around and went out, put down the cream puff, and quickly went to the kitchen to get a plate of fresh pork dumplings, which she placed on the rectangular marble table in the dining room.
She smiled and said to Wei Ruolan, who was sitting on the sofa reading documents, "President Lan, Mr. Lin hasn't had dinner yet. I got him a few steamed buns so he can have something to eat."
Wei Ruolan's gaze sharpened, and without raising her head, she hummed in agreement.
At this moment, Lin Xiao led Xi Xi out after she had finished rinsing her mouth.
Chen Moli hurried over and explained with a smile, "Mr. Lin, President Lan knows you haven't had dinner yet, so she specially asked me to go to the kitchen and get you a few freshly steamed pork dumplings. Please have some to tide you over."
She dared not take credit.
Lin Xiao, however, understood what was going on.
He smiled faintly and said, "Thank you, Jasmine and President Lan. However, I'm not very hungry yet. Let me tell Xixi a story first."
Wei Ruolan raised her head, her deep eyes filled with worry and concern.
She frowned slightly and said softly, "Lin Xiao, you've been so busy all day, why don't you eat something first? There's no need to rush to put Xixi to sleep, she's not sleepy yet."
XiXi also pulled Lin Xiao's hand and walked towards the dining room, "Daddy, XiXi will wait for you to eat first, and then tell me a story, okay?"
Lin Xiao chuckled helplessly and had no choice but to sit down and eat.
