Chapter 106: Planning to make me have three wives and four concubines?
Yan Baiqing stood still with his hands behind his back, the figures of the two men slanted on the water, deep and tense.
"Aunt Jiang said she wanted me to take care of a small matter." He smiled gently, "What a coincidence! I have an appointment nearby."
Jiang Jingyan closed the list and said indifferently, "Director Yan has been attending quite a few social events lately. The Yan family has been quite busy lately."
"Businessmen, no matter how hot they are, they can't be hotter than the Jiang family."
He curled the corners of his lips, said nothing, turned around and lifted the curtain.
Chen Qingzheng was concentrating on drinking juice. Mrs. Jiang was concerned about Wei Yin's studies and performance arrangements, which was beyond her usual level of concern. Only then did she hear the hidden meaning.
Mrs. Jiang's behavior is not just concern, but support for her future daughter-in-law.
She suppressed her emotions and remained silent. When she looked up, Jiang Jingyan and Yan Baiqing walked in together.
"Aunt Jiang." Yan Baiqing nodded, pulled out the empty armchair next to Chen Qing, and sat down. "A new face."
Mrs. Jiang was about to speak when Jiang Jingyan interrupted, "Director Wei's sister plays the pipa very well."
Chen Qing was sandwiched between him and Yan Baiqing, feeling very uncomfortable. He sat very still with his hands folded on his knees.
Mrs. Jiang raised her chin slightly when she heard Jiang Jingyan's personal praise. "Wei Yin is already quite famous in the East District Theater. The teacher who helped her debut was once your subordinate."
Yan Baiqing raised his eyebrows, "Really, Qing'er, are you in the same school?"
Chen Qing opened his mouth, but Wei Yin answered first, "No, but Chen Qing is quite famous in our school."
Jiang Jingyan rested his elbow on the back of Chen Qing's chair and asked with great interest, "How did you become famous?"
Wei Yin looked him straight in the eye and told him the truth, "Chen Qing's performance video was used as material by the erhu teacher. It later circulated, and she became the electronic goddess of the boys in the folk music department."
"There's such a thing." He laughed out loud, and picked up the hair on Chen Qing's shoulder to play with it, "Have you heard of it?"
Chen Qing shook her head. She would never watch those videos a second time to prevent her emotions from becoming rigid when she performed next time, unless she was not satisfied and wanted to keep them for review.
Wei Yin looked at her with a smile, "The most famous one was last year's welcome party. Many boys skipped their school activities and snuck over to join in the fun. I've seen the photo of her in the blue cheongsam on the lock screens of several classmates."
Jiang Jingyan knew this photo. It was hung on the honor board of Chen Qing School and was also on this year's admissions brochure.
Graceful and moving.
He flicked Chen Qing's hair with his finger and said jokingly, "Electronic Goddess?"
Yan Baiqing loosened a button and said, "It truly lives up to its reputation."
Chen Qing appeared calm on the surface, but he was in great torment inside. The two men were arguing with each other like they were fighting in a boxing match.
Mrs. Jiang didn't want to lose the limelight tonight, so she quickly interrupted, "Wei Yin's debut song 'Yangchun Baixue' at the theater a few days ago has many ladies waiting to catch the next performance. I wonder if we can get in through the back door?"
Jiang Jingyan poured a cup of tea and said nonchalantly, "I remember that Senior Brother likes to listen to Pipa. What a coincidence."
Mrs. Jiang glared at him, "Don't you like it?"
"Mother knows the answer."
She took a deep breath and didn't have a seizure.
Yan Baiqing caught a glimpse of Chen Qing's expression and took the initiative to join in, "I understand what Aunt Jiang means. I will pay attention to Miss Wei's affairs."
Wei Liang quickly stood up and thanked him.
He raised his hand and smiled faintly, "Aunt Jiang rarely makes demands on the younger generation. Director Wei, you don't have to be too polite. I'm just helping. I hope Miss Wei will not disappoint her expectations."
These words were full of meaning, and Wei Yin couldn't help but look at him.
Mrs. Jiang was very satisfied. "I met Director Zhang from the association this morning and heard him talk about the arrangements for Chen Qing. Since the two girls are about the same age, I thought they would have something to talk about together. Bai Qing, please take care of it together."
Yan Baiqing sat upright, a head taller than Chen Qing. He looked past her and at Jiang Jingyan, "I'm in charge?"
Jiang Jingyan frowned and said nothing.
Chen Qing stood up, his attitude neither humble nor arrogant. "Mrs. Jiang is so kind, Qing'er is very grateful. However, I have no plans to enter the theater for the time being. Director Zhang is just being polite for Mrs. Luo's sake. I want to let my debut take its course, and Mr. Yan is busy with official duties, so I don't want to cause trouble for everyone."
Mrs. Jiang took her hand, her eyes kind, "I know you are sensible. After all, Jingyan is worried about you. He is an outsider and doesn't understand you as well as Bai Qing. Since you want to let things take their course, and there is an opportunity recently, don't refuse. Besides, the friendship between you and Bai Qing is not a problem."
Chen Qing wanted to say something, but Jiang Jingyan put down the teacup heavily, his face showing a hint of coldness.
Wei Liang noticed that the atmosphere was not right and hurriedly pulled Wei Yin to say goodbye.
Before leaving, Wei Yin looked back and saw the two men with tall and straight backs and equal aura.
She withdrew her gaze and followed Wei Liang onto the narrow path.
"I think we should stay out of this mess." Wei Liang was worried. "Mrs. Jiang didn't say it explicitly, but I can tell she just wants someone to check and balance her. Yinyin, I'll find another way to transfer you back to your original theater."
Wei Yin stopped a passing waiter and asked for a box of fish food, then squatted by the bridge without responding or refusing.
"That Director Liu, Mr. Yan has almost eliminated his followers. I think you won't be troubled in the theater in the future."
"Without Director Liu, won't there be another Director Zhang or Director Wang?" Wei Yin said calmly, scattering fish food. "The theater is under the management of Mr. Yan, but if this incident hadn't escalated, would he have taken action against Director Liu?"
Wei Liang said nothing.
"Brother, since Madam Jiang has taken the initiative to provide the opportunity, we are not relying on her influence." Wei Yin looked at him earnestly.
She understood Wei Liang. Although he accepted funding and promotion from Mrs. Chiang, he never relied on the Chiang family to do anything wrong. Instead, he remained true to his original intention, worked hard, and was afraid of crossing the line.
But throughout one's life, one must always strive for certain scenery for oneself.
In the pavilion, Yan Baiqing had also left. Chen Qing used the excuse of going out for some fresh air to leave the mother and son some space alone.
Jiang Jingyan crossed his legs and said arrogantly, "If mother has nothing to do, you can ask Director Wei to arrange a few more charity events for you."
"I'm old, and the little energy I have left has to be spent on my family."
"Who is my family? My senior brother?" He sneered, "I tried every possible way to make him get what he wanted. I didn't even know my mother had a second son."
Mrs. Jiang was annoyed and lowered her voice, "What nonsense!"
She maintained her outward appearance and didn't want to argue with him here, so she patiently said, "Wei Yin is a good child. I feel sorry for her. I thought Chen Qing and she might have similar interests, so I asked Bai Qing to take care of her. What's the problem?"
Jiang Jing said angrily, "Chen Qing needs him to take care of him?"
"You want to pave the way for her, but some things are always beyond your reach. With Bai Qing around, you can at least get twice the result with half the effort. If she doesn't want to make a name for herself, why would she follow you at such a young age? If she doesn't have some other ulterior motive, who would believe it if they told you otherwise?"
He pulled off his tie and threw it aside. "I don't need anyone else to believe it."
"Wei Yin's parents are both deceased. She's a female university student majoring in folk music. She looks clean. Wei Liang raised her over the years. She's been influenced by him and has a pure mind. She'll please you."
The man suddenly laughed, "To please me? Is mother planning on having three wives and four concubines?"
Mrs. Jiang gathered her shawl and insisted on her bottom line. "If you don't like young ladies from aristocratic families, I can choose ordinary people for you. I can even choose someone who suits your taste in terms of profession, appearance, and personality. But Chen Qing, I can't do that."
