Chapter 149 Is there someone outside?

Chapter 149 Is there someone outside?

Jiang Jingyan took a deep breath, his chest wrinkling his shirt. He spoke with some difficulty, "Are you and Director Yan on good terms?"

Jiang Zhongyi laughed and pointed at him with his index finger, "You have courage."

"I thought about being tactful, but I haven't figured out how to say it."

"Questioning my work style?"

"I dare not."

There was silence for a while, and Jiang Jingyan stared at him.

Jiang Zhongyi smoked a cigarette and walked to the chess table. "The relationship is normal. Including all your subsequent questions, between the Jiang family and the Yan family, and between you and Bai Qing, I can tell you that it is not what you guessed."

Hearing this, Jiang Jingyan's heart was relieved. He dragged out a chair and sat down, crossing his legs. "You are very shrewd. You know what I want to ask."

Jiang Zhongyi squinted his eyes at the endgame on the table, holding the black chess piece, his face solemn, "I also know what you want to do in your heart, how to do it, and to whom."

He didn't say anything, playing the red chess piece, and moved the "rook" sideways, forcing the black chess piece to 4-5.

Jiang Zhongyi retreated and said, "You have been strong-willed since childhood. The fact that you have come this far is not my credit, but the organization's training. Jingyan, although your last name is Jiang, I didn't expect you to put the Jiang family first."

"Mother wouldn't think so."

"As a parent, please understand." Jiang Zhongyi took a few long puffs of his cigarette and stubbed it out. A wisp of gray smoke rose, obscuring his face. "When your mother was young, she was stronger than some men today. She spent her youth in peacekeeping war zones. With you, she has a soft spot and the family beliefs of an ordinary woman."

Jiang Jingyan nodded, and the red chess piece locked the center line.

Jiang Zhongyi held the edge of the table with both hands, solemnly and seriously, "From the day you joined the army, I have been mentally prepared for your sacrifice. I hope you put the organization first, and your family and parents second. But I don't agree with your plan this time."

Jiang Jingyan paused.

"If you want to attack the general, you can't be a river pawn." Jiang Zhongyi's eyes were like torches, looking deep into his eyes. "You have to sacrifice, but it can't be meaningless."

"You want me to stop?"

"I want you to engage in a tug-of-war, so that you can see clearly who your opponent is."

When Jiang Jingyan went downstairs, Chen Qing changed into a light pink home suit and stood behind Mrs. Jiang, rubbing her head.

"Why don't you take a rest?" He put his arm around Chen Qing's waist and sat down, his tone not very good. "Sister Mei can't do these things?"

Sister Mei, Mrs. Jiang's nanny, peeked in from the dining room and said, "I'm making ginseng soup for her. She has a terrible headache!"

Chen Qing helped explain, "I have good techniques. I was the one who massaged Mrs. Luo when she had a headache before."

Jiang Jingyan didn't let her get up. He circled her and pinned her to the sofa. "Qing'er was injured when she was a child. She rolled around in pain during her period. Today, she forced herself to perform, but you, on the other hand, have people standing and serving you."

Mrs. Jiang shook her head in anger, "Raising a son is really useless. It's better for outsiders to care about me."

"Outsider?" Jiang Jingyan's tone was deep and his face was gloomy.

Chen Qing pulled his sleeve.

Mrs. Jiang spoke quickly and reacted quickly afterwards, coughing to cover it up.

Sister Mei came out with a bowl of soup. "It rained heavily yesterday, and Madam sat in the greenhouse all afternoon. It was wet and cold, so she must have had a headache."

"Chen Qing is on her period and probably won't sleep well at night. Make her some soothing and warming soup and send it to the guest room."

"Okay, it just so happens that the last time Miss Wei came, she brought you a lot of donkey-hide gelatin."

Jiang Jingyan raised his eyelids sinisterly, and Sister Mei fell silent for a moment, then walked away with her head down and muttering.

Mrs. Jiang stirred the spoon and said, "It takes time for a girl to take care of herself. Mrs. Guo recommended an old Chinese doctor to me before. He is famous for his moxibustion. If you are still at home tomorrow, I will invite him over."

Chen Qing smiled sweetly, "Thank you, Mrs. Jiang."

"I should do this, so that no one will think I'm mean and deliberately making things difficult for you."

She nudged Jiang Jingyan with her elbow and winked at him.

Jiang Jingyan played with her fingers and said in a neutral tone, "The old Chinese doctor will come in the morning and have lunch with you at noon. Master Xiao and I will take Chen Qing to the villa to escape the summer heat."

Mrs. Jiang put down her spoon with a clang and glanced upstairs. "Is your father not going to be home tomorrow?"

"I have official business."

"What kind of official business is this?" Mrs. Jiang complained. "I've already asked the secretary."

"Don't ask about father's itinerary. It's not fair to ask."

"Are you lecturing me? If I don't ask, how do I know that he doesn't want to go home and just divorce me?"

"As far as I can remember, you've been threatening my wife with divorce every year. My father's word is always binding, and you'd be happy if he agreed to it one time." The man cupped Chen Qing's small hands and pinched her wrists. "I don't like you threatening my wife with divorce every day."

Chen Qing tried to withdraw her hand, "I didn't marry you, why would I get a divorce..."

"Don't leave?"

Not realizing the trap, she shook her head, "No leave."

"It's good that we don't leave." He said with a smile.

Chen Qing froze and remained silent.

Jiang Jingyan pulled a thin blanket over her and covered her with it. "Let me remind you again, Yan Weilan, don't provoke her all the time."

Madam Jiang closed her eyes and pressed her solar plexus, snorting coldly, "If she doesn't invite me, I will naturally ignore her."

"The Yan family has been making quite a stir recently, with members of the Zhang family's social circle constantly expressing their loyalty to the Yan family. If she gets angry, the two families might even join forces, which would be detrimental to my father."

"No matter how big a turn she makes, she can never overturn the Jiang and Zhong families."

"Be careful with your words." Jiang Jingyan frowned. "I'll take care of Yan Weilan. She's afraid of me, but not necessarily the Jiang family. If you have time, spend it with father to maintain your relationship."

He took Chen Qing's hand and stood up.

Mrs. Jiang suddenly opened her eyes and asked, "How many days will you stay at the villa?"

"It depends."

"Come back early, I haven't explained anything to the Wei family yet."

"What do you want to tell me?" Jiang Jingyan lost his patience. "They both know it very well. I told you not to worry. You were the one who started the engagement, so you go and make up for it."

Mrs. Jiang gritted her teeth in anger.

Jiang Jingyan kissed Chen Qing on the forehead. "I saw my father submitting his retirement application last week. Instead of worrying about the Wei family, why don't you talk to him first?"

He looked at Mrs. Jiang meaningfully and took Chen Qing upstairs.

In the early morning, Jiang Zhongyi came out of the study and returned to the bedroom.

Mrs. Jiang was leaning against the head of the bed reading a book. She raised her eyes leisurely without speaking first.

Jiang Zhongyi took his pajamas and went to the bathroom. Half an hour later, he finished washing up and walked out, drying his hair. "Are you not going to sleep yet?"

Mrs. Jiang hummed in a neutral tone.

"I have something to do at work tomorrow, so I'll leave early in the morning."

"What's up."

"Official business."

"I'm planning to retire, so what official business do I have left?"

Jiang Zhongyi turned his head in surprise and laughed, "Did Jingyan tell you?"

Mrs. Jiang closed the book and threw it aside. "Do you have someone else outside?"

"You're imagining things again."

"Is that just wishful thinking?" Mrs. Jiang insisted, sitting at the end of the bed. "You've been hiding everything from me. I can count the times you've been home on my hands!"

Jiang Zhongyi tore off the towel, stood by the window, and faced away from her.

“If there’s no one, why are you in such a hurry to retire?”

"I've been doing this for most of my life. I'm tired."

"Bullshit! You'd rather collapse at your post than be exhausted, unless there's something hidden."

Jiang Zhongyi turned around, the thick night passed over his shoulders, making him look desolate.

"Manwei, let's get a divorce."
