Chapter 219 Betrayed Himself

Chapter 219 Betrayed Himself

After he finished speaking, the ward fell into deathly silence.

Lian Zhuo was frightened and broke out in a cold sweat. He glanced at the bedside. Jiang Jingyan's face was stern and his eyes were fierce. There was no sign of him joking at all.

Zheng Yuan was also confused. He rubbed his face, sat down, looked down at the clothes he was wearing, stood up and straightened his clothes. He was so angry that he had no place to vent and couldn't curse, which made him anxious.

Anyone wearing this skin will inevitably have the ambition to take the interests of the country as their own responsibility. Jiang Jingyan is still a benchmark in the army. His colleagues and juniors are more or less influenced by his deeds and take him as an example. Although Zheng Yuan is unwilling to admit it, he still respects Jiang Jingyan in his heart. But such a person has taken great risks, betrayed the spirit of his oath, and betrayed himself.

Zheng Yuan pinched his temples with his thumb and index finger, breathing heavily, "I understand. You should swallow what you just said. You have wrong thoughts. I can give you a warning and punishment on the spot!"

He walked away and the ward door slammed shut.

In the first half of the night, Lian Zhuo was waiting carefully, fearing that Jiang Jingyan would get really angry and seek revenge on the people involved in the car accident.

At the same time, Chen Qing was in Yan Baiqing's ward, waiting for him to come back.

Yan Baiqing and Yan Weilan were in the same hospital but in different inpatient wards. He asked the bodyguard to stay with Chen Qing and sent Hua Mei away.

The doctor said that Yan Weilan's condition had improved, the ventilator was removed, and she was able to get out of bed. Yan Baiqing ordered the bodyguards in her ward to step aside and went in to see her alone.

"You seem quite interested." Yan Weilan leaned against the bedside, holding a book. Her peaceful appearance made him laugh. "The son almost died outside, and the mother didn't care, living a leisurely life."

She turned a page, the back of her bony hand looking creepy. "You're keeping me under house arrest. How do you expect me to know what's going on outside?"

"You can send someone to hire someone to hurt me. Can a few bodyguards protect me from a mother's worry about her son?"

Yan Weilan froze for a moment.

Yan Baiqing leaned against the lamppost at the door, the mottled light and shadows around him cast on his face. He felt a chill rising from his body as he spoke slowly, "I'm not dead. Are you disappointed?"

Hua Mei led his men to track down the whereabouts of the white car and discovered that it was related to a senior executive of the Yan family in the Greater Bay Area. He was shocked and heartbroken.

"Bai Qing." Yan Weilan closed the book and placed it on the bedside table, her eyes filled with sorrow. "We have been through so many misunderstandings over the years, mother and son. I gave birth to you alone, braving all the rumors and gossip, and took the trouble to raise you. Why would I wish you dead?"

"You gave birth to me because I am Meng Hongwen's son, but Meng Hongwen doesn't recognize me or you, so you hate me." Yan Baiqing was calm as if he was talking about someone else, and walked to the sofa and sat down.

His back was injured and he couldn't lean on anything, so he sat upright, his hands clenched into fists and resting on his knees, like a modest gentleman, cold and noble. "You and I know everything, so why bother pretending to be a loving mother and a filial son?"

Yan Weilan's eyes were bloodshot and her breathing was so heavy that it seemed as if she was going to suffocate in the next second.

She restrained herself for a moment and spoke hoarsely, "I just want you to see me."

Such a ridiculous reason, Yan Baiqing actually laughed out loud, "I saw it, and then what?"

"What you are going to do now is to overthrow your father, right?"

The warmth in his eyes disappeared completely, and his attitude was sarcastic. "My father?"

Yan Weilan grabbed the bed sheet and straightened up. "Bai Qing, stop it. Even if you disregard the father-son relationship, you should still consider Chen Qing. I heard that Chen Qing and Jiang Jingyan broke up. Now that you have her, live a good life and don't irritate Meng Hongwen anymore!"

Yan Baiqing casually brushed off his trouser legs and said, "So, you are using today's incident to 'kindly' remind me."

"If he had done it this time, neither you nor Chen Qing would have survived." She said fiercely, "Bai Qing, I don't have much time left. The Yan family can't afford to lose two heirs at the same time."

"You were reluctant to let me succeed Yan before, but now you agree?"

"You are my son!"

"Mother." Yan Baiqing smiled, his eyes unable to see through. "Let me ask you again, who gave you the idea for the car accident?"

Yan Weilan said nothing, her head shaking uncontrollably.

"Outsiders and you all think that I am unfilial and unjust by putting my own mother under house arrest. Ask yourself, am I putting my biological mother under house arrest? I am protecting you! Meng Hongwen contacts you once and drags you into trouble the next time. Can't you tell the difference?" Yan Baiqing has been introverted and low-key since he was a child, and he has developed a character that does not show his emotions on his face. At this moment, he is full of anger and his tone is intimidating.

"How did he instigate you? Do you still want to hide it?" His skin was pale, and it became even paler due to excessive blood loss in the afternoon. His handsome brows were now extremely sinister, and his tone was so cold that Yan Weilan didn't dare to look him in the face.

The atmosphere was tense. She smoothed the hair beside her ear and said, "You are in power in the Yan family. What you say is what it is. Of course you don't believe me when I do things."

"If I don't take power, the entire Yan family will become a springboard for Meng Hongwen to soar to the sky. You'll be cannon fodder, and you'll be his puppet on the road to whitewashing." Yan Baiqing slammed the table. "Don't blame me for not warning you in advance. Any benefits he promises to you will be evidence for his escape in the future!"

Tears welled up in Yan Weilan's eyes as she tried to defend herself, "He won't! If you behave yourself, he'll marry me, and we'll be a family of three..."

"Nonsense!" Yan Baiqing stood up, his movements straining his wound. He ignored the pain and took a large step forward. "Meng Hongwen has committed so many crimes. Jing Yan is investigating him and keeping a close eye on him. How can he live in peace for long? He's establishing ties with the Yan family at this critical moment so they can mobilize their connections and protect him in a life-or-death situation!"

Yan Weilan collapsed, began to twitch, and her hair was a mess. "You are making random guesses. I know him."

"Now that I understand, let me ask you, if it were Mrs. Jiang today, would Meng Hongming, knowing he would one day fall, be willing to leave her by his side?" Yan Baiqing, feeling pity for her misfortune and anger at her lack of resistance, pressed the emergency bell and answered his own question, "He wouldn't, just like he wouldn't marry you, not thirty-five years ago, and certainly not now."

He turned to leave, but Yan Weilan suddenly grabbed his sleeve, her face filled with hatred. "What about you? Didn't you also keep Chen Qing by your side? That means Meng Hongwen has feelings for me!"

The man looked indifferent. He grabbed her wrist and tucked her into the quilt. "It's just a chess piece. Who told you that you would have feelings for a chess piece?"

Yan Weilan's face turned pale in an instant. He lay on his back on the bed, allowing the doctors and nurses to manipulate him, lifeless.

When Yan Baiqing returned to his ward, Chen Qing was sleeping on her side on the armrest of the sofa. Her face was squeezed out of shape and she looked as delicate as mutton-fat jade in the dim light.

He walked in with light steps.

Chen Qing was not sleeping soundly. He opened his eyes dazedly and said, "You're back."

Yan Baiqing paused, his chest felt like being brushed by fur and burning with fire. This was the first time he had ever felt a woman waiting for his return.
